Good article nominations

Misplaced Pages:Good articles is a list of articles containing excellent content, but which are unlikely to be suitable featured articles - primarily because they are not very long. The system is unbureaucratic: everyone can nominate good articles, and anyone who has not significantly contributed to an article can review it. This list is for proposing possible promotion of articles to the community for consideration. (Consider joining Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Good articles if you are doing lots of reviewing!)

For nominators adding articles to this page

If you believe an article to be good, according to the 'Good Article' criteria:

Check to make sure it is not already on the good articles list.
List it at the bottom of the "Nominations", in the relevant section, below by using "# {{article|NAME OF ARTICLE}} ~~~~" with an edit summary of "+]".
If the article is longer than 20kb, (if unsure, check by searching the article title) add it to the long articles section. Better still, consider nominating it at featured article candidates where it will get assessed by several people instead of just one.
Leave any comments regarding past nominations/quality/length on the talk page instead of with the nomination.
Add {{GAnominee|17 January 2025}} to the nominated article's talk page and wait for assessment.

For reviewers of currently nominated articles

Long-standing nominations are a higher priority than more recently added ones.
Review carefully - the standards of GAs are only as high as the standards of the most lenient reviewer!

Pass

If you see an article below under "Nominations" that you haven't significantly contributed to and that meets the 'Good Article' criteria:

Remove it from the list using the edit summary "-] (Passed)"
Replace {{GAnominee}} with {{GA}} on its talk page. (Also, start a section about the GA being passed and about the progression of the article)
List the article on Misplaced Pages:Good articles under the appropriate section and update the article count at the end of the section (optionally, update the recently listed list at the top of Misplaced Pages:Good articles). When listing a person please write the surname first (e.g. list Joe Black with the syntax ]).

On Hold

Articles may be put On Hold for up to 7 days by the reviewer unless they are unstable. It's the nominator's responsibility to address the concern quickly. GA isn't peer review; articles should only be put on hold when there is a minor edit/clarification required from the nominator.

"On Hold" articles should be indicated by the "'On Hold" note below their respective nomination which should say something akin to "#: On Hold: Notes left on talk page.(sign)"
Only article reviewers may put articles on hold. If the nominator wishes for more time before the article is reviewed then he or she should remove the article from the nominations list.
If the nominator doesn't respond inside a period of one week or if another reviewer feels it doesn't comply with the criteria, the article is automatically failed.

Fail

If you see an article below under "Nominations" that you don't consider to meet the criteria:

Remove it from the list using the edit summary "-] (Failed)"
Replace {{GAnominee}} with {{FailedGA}} on its talk page.
Please leave a reason on the article's talk page. You may use the template {{subst:gan-fail}} to explain, with the following syntax:
{{subst:gan-fail|(reason)}} ~~~~
If your sole criterion for rejecting the article was a lack of appropriate references, please add the article to the Unreferenced GA Nominations list.
