The Times-Advocate, also called The Escondido Times-Advocate, is a weekly newspaper published in Valley Center, California serving the city of Escondido and surrounding communities. It was founded in 1909, ceased publication as a separate title in 1995, and was revived in 2014.

History

The Escondido Times-Advocate, as it was originally called, was founded in 1909 as a daily paper with the merger of The Escondido Times (founded in 1886) and The Escondido Advocate (founded 1891). In 2008 it was one of the longest-standing institutions in Escondido's history. It was acquired in the mid-20th century by Tribune Publishing who owned several other Southern California papers. In 1995 Tribune Publishing sold its Southern California holdings, including its largest one the Times-Advocate, to Howard Publications. At the time of the sale, the Times-Advocate had a circulation of 40,000. The North County Blade-Citizen of Oceanside and the Times-Advocate were then merged to form the North County Times. That paper ceased publication as a separate title in 2013 when it was bought by the San Diego Union-Tribune and merged into the larger paper to become its North Coast edition.

The Times-Advocate name was revived, initially as a monthly paper, in 2014 by real estate broker Kelly Crews and later sold to Roadrunner Publications in January 2016..
