This occurred after they experienced frustration with a local speaker repair shop that failed to return their radio in a timely manner. Dissatisfied with the service, they decided to take matters into their own hands, establishing a company dedicated to speaker repair and, eventually, manufacturing.
Origin
The Minneapolis Speaker Company (MISCO) was founded in 1949 by Cliff and Bernice Digre in Minneapolis. Initially operating as the Minneapolis Speaker Reconing Company, the business began by repairing and reconditioning existing speakers. This hands-on experience led to valuable insights into speaker design and performance, particularly for challenging environments. In 1956, at the request of a customer, the company expanded its operations to include the design and manufacture of a new line of speakers, known as the "Red Line" series. This marked a significant shift, establishing MISCO as a prominent player in the speaker manufacturing industry.
