Albanian students were subject to discrimination, and were not allowed to study in the regular schools for more than 8 years. Attempts for peaceful protests were crushed by the Serbian police resulting in many imprisoned and severely beaten.
(more to come soon).
What ? You are delusional. THese are NOT reasons for independence. These ALLEGED atrocities, even if they happened, do not justify Kosovo's independence. Although totally unacceptable, of course, Milosevic's actions were the result of many Serbs in Kosovo being harrassed by Albanians , unendingly for many centuries.
Furthermore, albania has NEVER had a state in Kosovo. IT has always been part of Serbia. Just because a group of people have a majority, it doesn't entitle the country to be seperated from where it belongs. How many albanian mosks are there in Kosovo - none. How many christian monasteries _ thousands. No albanian relics. Albanians were simply a bunch of shepherds until the 1920s. THe serbs were gracious enough to let them use their land in kosovo.
As for discrimination of students -that's crap. As you well know
1) Yugoslavia was the 1st country in the WORLD to allow an ethnic minority to have independent schools and universities, run in Albanian language.
2) The reason why the students were disenfranchised was not due to discrimintation, but due to Albanians own reason; these being
a) Albanians in Kosovo had the highest birth rate in Europe, living in extended families of 30 -40 per household
b) ALbanians were largey uneducated and illeterate, making them unemployable
c) the rate of unemployement in Kosovo was highest in all Yugoslavia. Many Serbs left and got jobs elsewhere, while many ALbanian refugees (from Albania) kept migrating to Kosovo (because it was still a mile better than Albania). THis population pressure further increased unemployment
d) After the students graduated, many simply went straight into the large group of unemployed. When people are poor and unhappy, they naturally tend to start uprisings and conflicts. Many albanian student joined the terrorist group KLA, which was supported by Al Qaeda and other Muslim terrorists.
3) IT was albanian people that ethnically cleansed the Serbs. Ever since the 16th century when ALbanians converted to Islam and became more accepted to the Turks, the Turks cleansed Serbs, in which the Albanians were only too happy to contribute to. As the Serbs left, more and more albanians migrated to Kosovo.
4) Even in the 20th century, Albanians continued to terrorise and murder Serbian farmers.
5) I am not a Serb, but i visited Kosovo once in the 80s. I experienced that many of the Albanian inhabitants were harassing my family and i just because we were white and christian.
