A valley and city of 450,000 in central Nepal. The old city is noted for it's Buddhist temples and palaces, most dating from the 17th C, although many were destroyed in earthquakes seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites are in the valley.

Popular with western tourists since the 1960s.
