Community discussion

A community discussion at the administrators' noticeboard has placed all pages related to the Gamergate controversy under general sanctions. 16:19, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Remedies

Sanctions imposed cannot be undone by another administrator without approval of the sanctioning administrator or an appeal at the administrators' noticeboard. Pages may be tagged with {{Gamergate sanctions}}, which can be used to indicate that articles are with the scope of these sanctions. Prior to being sanctioned, editors must be notified of these sanctions with the {{subst:Gs/GrG notification}} template. Use the {{subst:Community sanction}} template when imposing sanctions. For blocks, use {{subst:Uw-csblock}}.

  • Any uninvolved administrator may, at his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor that edits pages related to the Gamergate controversy, if, after being notified of the existence of these sanctions, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
  • Sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length, bans from editing any page or set of pages within the scope of these sanctions, bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics, restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
  • Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor shall be given a notification with a link to this decision and, where appropriate, should be counselled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Violations of any of the remedies listed above can be reported at the sanctions enforcement page.
  • Sanctions imposed may be appealed to the imposing administrator or at the appropriate administrators' noticeboard.

Log of notifications

Editors who have been notified of the existence of these sanctions should be logged here, along with a diff of the notification. For consistency, the template {{subst:Gs/GrG notification}} should be used. The appropriate procedure for notifying editors of the existence of these sanctions is described here.
