PlayStation 4 will be the successor to the PlayStation 3, and it is hoped to be released in late 2013, or even before then

In an interview with Sony regarding the PS4, Phil Harrison stated that "I'd be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive." , which was interpreted by some as meaning that PS4 may not be able to play PS3, PS2 or PS1 games, as they all use discs.
