Here are some tips to help you get started:
- If you haven't already, please add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the article describing how to edit a page and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- When editing pages, use the preview button before submitting and try to fill in the summary box for every edit.
- Eventually, read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Jrdioko
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
Aruku Hito
In the article on Jiro Taniguchi, the word "aruto" probably should be "aruku" ("to walk"). However, titles being titles, I can't be sure...
- Thanks for the info. I just checked some ressources on the Web, and both I saw titles. I'll guess by your contributions that you are from Japan or at least have a good knowledge of japanese. So go up for your translation.
- By the way, can you tell me how to add easily japanese letters ? Lvr 09:09, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC) PS: I'm watching this page, so you may want answer right here. I'll see your message.
Hi Laurent,
The way I add Japanese is using Microsoft's IME. You can download it at no cost from microsoft.com and set it up to appear in the language bar. Then I select Japanese and Hiragana and type. Pressing the spacebar converts hiragana to natural Japanese (a mixture of kanji and kana).
Another way to get Japanese is to copy and paste from the Japanese Misplaced Pages.
I hope that helps.
Best regards,
Frank

Yatate
I am very impressed by the swiftness with which the kanji were added to the yatate page ! Thank you so much ! (I've also just started the shakudo page, if you're interested ! ;) ). Thank you again !
Rama
Thanks --- I enjoyed your two articles and learned from them!
Suberb
Thanks for the spelling fix on Hankyuu. I tend to overlook them.
Ramen and Chuka Soba
Chuka Soba, from what I think it means from your writing, refers to a varient of Ramen known as Gomokusoba, lit. five ingredients ramen (=soba). Gomokusoba is flavored with spices used in Chinese cuisines and things on top are stir-fried and thickened. It is served in a Chinese restaurant in Japan. It's probably an oddity in a particular restaurant you are familiar with. Revth 01:33, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Osaka Castle
Thank you so much for that Osaka castle pic! Now it is used in the Osaka Castle and Osaka articles! WhisperToMe 04:08, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Volcanoes of Honshu
Thank you for your help with Category:Volcanoes of Honshu. I spent most of the day restructuring Category:Volcanoes into a rich extensible hierarchy. ^_^ - Gilgamesh 11:28, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)
47 Ronin
Thanks for the pointer to the Columbia site - it contains a number of useful items. I was planning on redoing the 47 Ronin page, taking into account the information provided in Hiroaki Sato's book (particularly the account of Okado Denpachirō, who was an official on duty the day Asano attacked Kira, and was present at many of the events of that day), and will include material from the Columbia too. Alas, I can't read Japanese, so I am restricted to sources which have been translated into English. Noel 12:22, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the reply. Following up on the Columbia page you posted, I have contacted the author, Prof. Henry Smith, who it turns out I already had several books by! He is quite a scholar of the Ronin, and has given me a great deal of very useful information about them - which sources are best, etc. He is sending me a number of papers, etc, and I have ordered some books he recommended. Once I have assembled all this material, I will re-write the page to remove the inaccuracies. Noel 14:14, 29 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Shingo, Aomori
You are the main author of the above article, so I'm dropping a note here. I have just reverted a long POV rant which was quoted in the article. It was placed there by 219.43.110.1 on Sept 3. Besides being POV, the quotation overwhelmed the article, indeed it became the article.
Yet obviously something more is needed about this tomb, either here or in its own article. Accordingly I've added two external links to the page. The links are just to the first reasonable discussions I found on the matter and there may be better ones. I did not add a link to the site from which the quotation was taken as I don't think it as helpful as the ones I did link to.

Tokyo
We could do that. New York City has similar lists. WhisperToMe 04:46, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Onomichi
Well spotted! Turns out that despite the name Jodo-ji is not the HQ of the Jodo sect, but one of the Shingon subsects instead. Duly corrected. Jpatokal 11:20, 11 Oct 2004 (UTC)
VHF Omni Range
I noticed you redirectd my article on "VHF Onmi Range" to "VHF Omni Range". Sorry, (how embarrasing). However, this this article needs to be redirected or deleted. My mistake, a page on VOR (all caps) already existed but I found an unrelated article searching for "vor". Rsduhamel 03:35, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Route 128 Station
Is this deleted article available on the web so I can take a peek? Thortful 08:23, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Japanese actors
You added {{merge}} to Category:Japanese actors and actresses and Category:Japanese actors. Do you have an opinion as to which should be merged into which? - dcljr 18:49, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Train Station Deletion
Hey, thanks for letting me know about the deletion of Route 128 station. Actually, as someone who has used that station many a time, I don't think it was a particularly well-written article. There was a lot that could be talked about (they just recently rebuilt the entire station from a stray platform to a very expensive new station). To me, the information seemed like it was all pulled raw from and re-organised. It was not a good article for deletion, but for re-organisation and expansion. But if someone comes near my articles, I'll cut 'em! :) Páll here by the way, nice to meet you in the Wikipediaverse. PZFUN 04:51, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Poll
I have created a preliminary version of Misplaced Pages:VfD decisions not backed by current policies/poll. Your comments would be much appreciated. - SimonP 17:08, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)
Bikini Atoll
Thanks for correcting my spelling on the Bikini atomic experiments page. I appreciate it. And thanks for the information about the Japanese boat; I didn't know that a third party group had been exposed to radiation. TomStar81 01:26, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Kyoto
I wasn't aware of any trend in Japanese city names, but standard Misplaced Pages convention is to use the simplest and most common name, unless there is a specific reason (eg, disambiguation) to do otherwise. I'm aware that US cities are often an exception, but that was by special agreement — I haven't noticed such an agreement for Japan, and can't find any mention of one at Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (city names) or its associated talk pages. (The only mention I can find of Kyoto, Kyoto is a brief comment by another user calling it "ridiculous"). Is there a place where this has been discussed? And if so, what is the reason given for departing from Misplaced Pages convention? -- Vardion 22:10, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip about Wikimedia Commons. I had no idea. - Nat Krause 10:11, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Image:Sengakuji.jpg
Hey there, could you possible provide Image:Sengakuji.jpg with an image copyright tag? It is required if the article is to beecome a featured article.
- Done. While there, I made a couple more changes that (I hope) will survive the upcoming edit. After watching five or six Chushinguras this month, I hope this article becomes featured! --Fg2
On another note, I was looking through your photo album, great work! I was wondering, could you provide larger resolution versions of the following images, shot by you:
I would really like to nominate them for featured pictures, but the resolution of all your images is just a tad too low. In general, when uploading images, do not spare the Misplaced Pages disk space :) You can upload the highest resolution version you have, although it is a good idea to apply some resizing and JPEG compression (at least 80 quality) to get image size under 1 MB. Cheers, ] 10:52, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately, those photos are in the huge, unorganized boxes that I've recently combed through twice, so I can't be sure how soon they'll surface again. Still, I'll keep my eyes open for them, and if they appear, I'll definitely put up big scans. --Fg2
Dual licensing of photos?
Your photos of Japan are excellent — could you consider dual licensing them under CC by-sa, so they could be used at Wikitravel as well? Here's a link to a short rationale. Jpatokal 04:24, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment! All now PD. --Fg2
The Humungous Image Tagging Project
Hi. You've helped with the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Misplaced Pages fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Misplaced Pages's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to ] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to ] all my contributions to any ], county, or city article as described below:
- {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" with "{{MultiLicensePD}}". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
- Done. FG2
Unverified images
Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:
I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. ] 22:23, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.
- Done. --FG2
