Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Semi-protection. - The article is currently in an AfD, but is getting heavy loads of unsourced speculation, rumors and vandalism. If the AfD fails, it's going to be like this for quite awhile, because of the third film being in the box office and performing well. Requesting semi protection to keep anonymous editors from strolling in and adding huge speculated plots, casts, and other unsourced information. The article has only been up for a day and it's been hit almost relentlessly. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 23:03, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Let's Rock the House (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Full protection. This article is about a single by La Toya Jackson that was re-issued by 2007 under DEAD END! Records, a small record label owned by myself. However, copies have been sold, and continue to be sold and manufactured, and this classifies as an official release. Vandals who know me outside Misplaced Pages (and don't like me) continue to remove any reference to the 2007 release, simply because I'm associated with it. Also, they decided to change "DEAD END! Records" to "Robert is a Gay Twat" in the article, and at one point, even adding my photograph to the article. Not only should this page be fully protected against further vandalism, but administration should consider having the users involved, specifically User:HelenRail, 82.34.226.152, User:J9306, AND User:Vinylcollector82. semi-protection Page is repeatedly being reintroduced with a paragraph of copyrighted information from a specific website by one anon (202.83.173.122) who has previously vandalised my userpage thrice and launched personal attacks on my talk page and continues to remove sourced statements. Despite repeated talks with him warning him about this, he continues to add one copyrighted image and a para. The main reason for requesting a semi-protect thus, is to prevent the copyvio of an entire paragraph. Idleguy 19:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

semi-protection +expiry 2 weeks, Semi-protection: Vandalism, The article is not of a NPOV, with changes that are not of a NPOV added frequently by IP adresses Y4kk 19:16, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Have you tried to talk to the anon editor about it? -Royalguard11(Talk·Review Me!) 19:19, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have not, the edits of the non NPOV material come from at least 2 ips, one of them has received warnings about various Dubai related issues and the other has an ip from "Emirates Internet, an Internet service provider through which thousands of individual users may connect to the internet. This IP may be randomly assigned to a different person when the current user disconnects". Therefore I propose the only way to keep this article NPOV is semi protection. Y4kk 19:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

The user ADRy07 keeps changing the page for the worse, and myself and AxG are really trying hard to keep it nice and neat and to have cited references. Current requests for unprotection
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

I previously requested unprotection due to the fact that the "Edit war" didn't even remotley constitute an edit war however admin Royalguard11 (talk · contribs) put the unprotection on hold choosing to instead post on the protecting admin (Myleslong (talk · contribs)) talk page inquiring how it constituted an edit war. Myleslong has not answered Royalguard's question, depite his contributions showing he has editted his talk page a fair few times in the time period. The situation is still the same, I have no willingness to revert the article at all in the future and still see the protection as very far in advance of what constitutes an edit war with no previous warning. –– Lid 00:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

"Although sealing off the watertight bulkheads with watertight decks would have increased the survivability of a vessel such as Titanic, it would have by no means ensured the survival of a ship with as much underwater damage as Titanic sustained in her collision with the iceberg; it was a big iceberg."
Yes it would. It saved later vessels, including Cole. This section requires an update.

Bob Backlund (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
The page content was blanked for lack of sources and references, then reverted and restored back and forth until it was editprotected to stop people from re-adding unsourced material. I went through and edited the article to provide full sources, in the course of editing the article I also made significant changes to the blanked out version of the article (including removing several comments that were "contentious") - I posted a sourced version with a link on the talk page to ask for it to be edited in instead of the severly cut down version of the article. A comment was made that I should post here as well since the article I'm asking to be edited in differes vastly both from the current version and the unsourced version that was blanked. I ask that the protection be removed so that the sourced article can be added. The source of the edit war was sourcing, people kept readding unsourced text instead of sourcing it - so I did the sensible thing and provided a fully sourced version, hopefully this will prevent further edit wars and give Misplaced Pages a much better article than the current "stubby" version. Thanks in advance. MPJ-DK 19:49, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page
ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Template:Afd (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
When you tag a page with this template, instead of coming up with this article's entry and linking that to the AfD argument, it comes up with ]. I'm not sure what's wrong. I think it might be the use of the substitution in a link. For an example, see here. Cool Blue 22:57, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Groups referred to as cults in government reports (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
There is much contention about what a government report is on this page, which is based on the confusion of some as to the nature of the US government. I feel that the source is valid, and found that the opinions on Misplaced Pages talk:Reliable sources#If the...FBI and GAO don't write Government Reports... who does? agreed (Don't let the title fool you, CRS was discussed too). I have tried to explain how the government works, but I think I may have just confused them more.
I'm asking for this addition but continued protection because those who believe it not to be a valid source would likely remove it. Of course if you (the reviewer) feel it should not be added I can accept that but would simply ask for an explanation why the confusion of some should keep a valid source out? (A note on the box, I'm still trying to figure these out but for this one to work you have to click on the hide/show button twice) Anynobody 00:05, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

- Anynobody, besides trying to get an uninvolved admin to decide this issue, you are pointing at a one-sided chat at Misplaced Pages talk:Reliable sources#If the...FBI and GAO don't write Government Reports... who does?. I just brought the group at that site up to date. If the admin wanted to see both sides, a visit to Talk:Groups referred to as cults in government reports is suggested but actually the better action is to let the involved editors work it out. --Justanother 00:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Guess us poor confused puppies get lucky now and then. --Justanother 00:58, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Barely any vandalism from registered accounts. The page is currently semi-protected. Weird Al's White & Nerdy song has sort of lost its vibe, and people are moving on.
