Revision as of 06:02, 9 June 2005 by 65.9.5.213 (talk)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Spider-Man 3 is the third movie in the Spider-Man series and is planned for an American release on May 4, 2007. The movie will be directed by Sam Raimi. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, J.K. Simmons, and James Franco are the confirmed returning cast members from the previous two Spider-Man movies.
New Actors
It has been confirmed that the actor Thomas Haden Church will be playing the main villain. Actor Topher Grace, known for his lead role in TV sitcom "The 70's Show", has joined the cast, although his role is unknown.
Possible Villains and Storylines
Church is rumored the most to play either The Sandman or Venom.
The Lizard was once considered the most likely option due to the casting of actor Dylan Baker as Dr. Curt Connors (who becomes the Lizard in the Spider-man comics) in Spider-man 2. However, he has probably been removed as a possibility, since no evidence shows he will reprise his role in this film.
Franco is expected to be the second Green Goblin or possibly be the Hobgoblin to avoid the appearance of repetition of villains. Franco's character, Harry Osborn, becomes the Green Goblin in most comic book adaptions. The first Green Goblin, played by Willem Dafoe was the villain in the first film and was also the father of Franco's character. Raimi has stated that this film will stray the most from the comic books and has hinted at the possibility that Franco may not become a supervillain at all. Sam Raimi did happen to let slip, in an interview with Wizard: The Comics Magazine, that there will be more than one villian, so Sandman, Lizard, Green Goblin, or even a Sinister Six, could all be possible. Raimi also let slip that the villain would involve massive CGI, furthering the possibility that Sandman or Venom will be involved. Though in this interview, Avi Arad as much as denied Sandman or Venom would appear in the film, he seemed to be joking.
