MrClaxson related

Hi, MrClaxson (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) placed a comment about my general behaviour. It had absolutely no reference to the policy. I'd appreciate it if you didn't revert again; if you've got an issue with that then please leave a message on my talkpage.--Rambutan (talk) 17:53, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

See my reply here.--Rambutan (talk) 17:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
No. His edit did not reference the proposal, so it wasn't relevant. If you're really concerned, ask about it here: I'm 90% sure they'll say the same as I am. Sure, he's got a right to give his opinion, but he's got no right to give it in the wrong place. If he wants to complain about my actions, there are places where he can do that. A discussion page for a specific proposal is just that, and nothing else.--Rambutan (talk) 18:02, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Evidence

Yours,--Rambutan (talk) 18:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh yes, your example revision. Well, that was because the caption was changed to ProfYana, with a full explanation, and the anon changed it back without one. That is unilateral editing without discussion, which is a bit iffy. Anyway, that's one reversion out of ~175 on the article. Are the others all awful, or were some of them worth doing?--Rambutan (talk) 18:21, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Sound of Drums

Yeah, but he's more commonly known as just "Mr Saxon" or "Harry Saxon" - we don't use full, mostly unused names like "Anthony Blair" and "Thomas Cruise" where we can use "Tony Blair" and "Tom Cruise". Will 11:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

The BBC have used the name "Harry" in the press summaries, and McFly used it in the teaser (and likely will do so in the episode). Will 11:09, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and I do know he was referred to as Harold in "The Lazarus Experiment". :) Will 11:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the BBC have the same amount of reliability as the episodes themselves. Will 11:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Can you source the Davros thing? As producers of the program, the BBC are reliable, and if it was a spoof, that doesn't impact their reliability. Will 11:19, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I believe User:Kelpin is conflating the BBC website with a prank that was played by an IMDB contributor. Mark H Wilkinson 12:50, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Blocked

This account has been indefinitely blocked for evading the block on User:MrClaxson. --Akhilleus (talk) 17:39, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

checkY

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

There is a lack of direct evidence regarding sockpuppetry. Raised possibility of unblock with blocking admin. Unblocking in the assumption of good faith.

Request handled by: Vassyana 15:17, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I am contacting the blocking admin to sort this out. Please bear with me for a day or two. Cheers! Vassyana 18:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Further evidence that I am not MrClaxson. If you review all my edits on ip 83.105.96.154 (which I used before I had this account) you will see that I did not sign any of my comments until Rambutan told me how to here http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:83.105.96.154 . (I didn't sign them because I didn't know how to). If you look at the postings of MrClaxson and his alleged sock puppets you will find that most if not all are signed. Moreover Misplaced Pages guidance says you should assume Good Faith. Akhilleus has not done this. No one has complained that I am a sock puppet - Akhilleus has assumed bad faith on my part because I questioned his decision that MrClaxson was a sock puppet. Moreover Akhilleus has failed to respond to any of my emails to discuss this matter - even if he does not agree with me this would be the courteous thing to do, and what I was led to believe would happen from the guidance given to me at the time the block was placed. Kelpin 08:25, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Unblock

After discussing it with the blocking admin and taking a few days to look over everything & make sure things were well-considered, I have unblocked you. I hope you use this as an opportunity to (continue to) improve Misplaced Pages. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Vassyana 15:21, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help - the ip address block still seems to be in place though I get this message when I try to edit:

To request assistance with an autoblock:

   * IP address: 83.105.96.154
   * Blocking admin: Akhilleus
   * Autoblock ID: 550808
   * Original block reason: Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Kelpin". The reason given for Kelpin's block is: "block evasion, see contribs to user talk pages".
   * Your account name (if you have one): Kelpin 15:34, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kelpin, I just lifted the autoblock, so see if you can edit now. --Akhilleus (talk) 15:40, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad it worked. Happy editing! --Akhilleus (talk) 15:45, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Rambutan

The irony of Rambutan's actions is that I do not know of a single case where he did not revert to the best available version. He has been a vigilent defender of the Doctor Who articles. The problem is that he has been too vigilent. The edit in question was a small revert, and a correct one. But it was still one of four in 24 hours, from someone who should know better. Phil Sandifer 12:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Then do you want him to leave the article full of OR and other c***? SalaSkan 20:41, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Kelpin: he was replying to the message above. He just did it here so it appeared coherent. Thanks for requesting my unblocking!--Rambutan (talk) 09:44, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your WP:FORUM offer; I'll bear it in mind!!--Rambutan (talk) 21:32, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Claxson sockpuppet

You didn't see what he's been doing. He keeps blanking it and replacing it with a note about the fact that he chose to leave Misplaced Pages, rather than was banned.--Rambutan (talk) 17:02, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I know you're not his sock, but that doesn't mean that he isn't. What's the chance that MrClaxson is nothing to do with a known sockpuppeteer with names like Claxson, KingClaxson, ClaxsonKing, KingoftheClaxsons... anyway, talkpage of banned users are usually protected if they continue griping. It's how things happen.--Rambutan (talk) 17:10, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Eagles and Don Henley

Rather than leaving me warnings on here about my edits to the above articles - please engage in the debate here . I would much rather reach a consensus on this issue than engage in an edit war with you. Thank you. Kelpin 12:18, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I actually didn't place the block on the user, nor did I decline their block. I did try to interact with them to explain the username policy and whatnot. But I may contribute to the discussion anyway. Natalie 16:10, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem! I'd rather have extra notification than no notification at all. Natalie 16:14, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

re: Rush

Instead of questioning a very clear edit summary, perhaps you should go back and read the Rush FA discussion process to find out which version was decided upon by concensus. I read all FA discussion pages before I edit them. Don't you? All editors should. Also... the editor who keeps re-adding the non-concensus text is an IP sock of User:Alterego269 who is permanently blocked from Misplaced Pages. Again... if you would just do your homework, you wouldn't have made the mistake of questioning my edit. 142.167.80.111 14:59, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

I will apologize for assuming that, since you have been here awhile, you would know that an FA is a featured article. It's such a basic and rooted part of what Misplaced Pages is I figured anyone who's made over 50 edits should know that. I had over 20000 edits as a logged user before I determined that usernames were completely useless and only good for those seeking administrator status(a nomination I declined more than a dozen times) I edit simply for encyclopedic quality and do not desire any personal "Wiki-fame". Misplaced Pages was built on the contributions of anonymous editors. As an IP editor I have amassed another 20000+ edits. My co-workers are also anon Wiki editors so it appears as though 1 editor has 40000+ edits. But they are shared among my co-workers and I. That being said, we've seen just about everything there is to see here. And Alterego269 edits are so easy to spot even for editors who've only seen a few of them. Tagging an IP sock is easy when the editor uses the same modus operandi. He will appear tomorrow with a different IP. Some of his edits are good, some aren't(like the Rush edit). Having been here for so long my AGF is stretched very thin and I reserve it for only a few who have earned it. Alterego269 has not done that although someday he may. He sometimes edits from a school IP so I expect he is just a teen-ager and has a lot to learn. If you need any help here feel free to ask me. I've been here as long as there's been a project to be here for. I have many Wiki-admin friends who can assist you if you require it. Good luck with your future contributions. And remember, be bold. 142.167.80.111 15:34, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
WP:CIT is the link to Misplaced Pages's cite template page. All the citation templates are there for {cite web}, {cite book}, {cite video} etc. Hope that helps. 142.167.93.132 19:08, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Erm...

"Hi Scarian. I have made reference to your edit here please don't take this as a personal attack. I've seen this kind of thing happen quite a lot recently with people editing articles on subjects they don't really know enough about - I picked yours because it was recent and on an article on my watchlist that was changed today so it came to mind first. May I suggest in future that you leave the edit or flag it with a note on the talk page? That way someone who has the article on their watchlist can check the edit. Thanks. Kelpin 16:48, 9 August 2007 (UTC)"

I don't think that was very fair of you... I mean, all I was doing was trying to do my job, buddy. I am actually quite offended. If I see a mistake, I'm quite obligated and within my right to attempt to correct it. And if I make a mistake whilst trying to do my job, no harm done. By the by, what I was originally doing in the first place was investigating possible vandalism from a repeat offender.
As to: "leave the edit or flag it" - No. That's wrong. You can't tell people to do that. From a philosophical point of view, no one learnt anything by not making mistakes. And from a Misplaced Pages point of view, you make me feel as though I'm not good enough to edit the Formula 1 articles. Assume good faith, my friend and you will be rewarded later on in life (if you ever want to be an admin).
Please don't tell other user's what they can and cannot edit. It breaches the right's of the user's and Misplaced Pages's own tag-line: "...anyone can edit" . (Btw, sorry for the late reply, I only just read your message) Scarian 15:30, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Haha - , that feels like it happened so long ago. Buddy, I honestly didn't mean any nastiness from it... adding the {{fact}} tag seemed like an inventive sort of way to convey how I was feeling at the time. And you have to admit it was rather suspicious of the anon to say something like that. You were right not to say anything at the time and I was wrong to say anything like that. From that point I don't think I made another accusation of calling you a sock puppet so I don't understand: "I am well and truly fed up of the accusations." - Unless I have missed something? - It takes a hefty list of evidence to accuse someone of being a sockpuppet and, if anything, I purely said what I said for a comical effect (It may not have been funny for you). You seem like a nice person Kelpin and I really didn't mean to cause any trouble between us. Hooah. Take care. Scarian 18:19, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

I never knew you got blocked for being a sock. And from the brief story it sounds like the admin was a prick and wasn't doing his job right. I am also in the U.K., what county do you reside in? Scarian 18:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
South Bedfordshire. Do you live inside Birmingham or the littles towns and villages surrounding it? My cousin works for Aston Villa and lives just outside Birmingham in a little town beginning with 'T'... I can't remember what it's called. What do you work as? Scarian 18:45, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Wow, that's pretty cool. Work in Aston? Is Aston Villa a place aswell as a football club? Scarian 18:54, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Undoing Tom Golding

Hi, firstly, please don't use misleading edit summaries. You didn't undo my edit, it had already been undone. Also, it was vandalism, since it clearly said not to add it without a source, and he added it without a source. That's bad faith, mate.--Rambutan (talk) 17:03, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

I added it WITH a source and you've removed the source - make up your mind. Kelpin 17:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Kelpin, darling - if a note specifically and clearly says "don't add 'Tom Golding' without noting a source", and someone makes a conscious decision to go against that note, then it is not good faith. Surely you can see that? And, a "deliberate attempt to compromise Misplaced Pages's integrity" is vandalism (see here for the official definition). I'd be interested to hear your explanation of how ignoring seven polite and reasonable notes is good faith, though.--Rambutan (talk) 17:41, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

The warning on the page said "PLEASE DO NOT add Tom Golding playing "Lad" using IMDB as a source" the user who added Tom Golding as Lad didn't quote IMDB. He said in his edit summary "I have added Tom Golding again because he had a credited speaking part in the episode just as everyone else on the above cast list!" whilst that comment could be interpreted in different ways - when I saw it this morning I interpreted it as referring to the cast list on the BBC page, hence it wasn't vandalism and hence I didn't undo it. As you said above assume good faith. Kelpin 17:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, he didn't have a speaking part. He knew he shouldn't do what he did, and one doesn't AGF when it is obviously bad-faith. As for Bernard Cribbins - he's been rumoured (not confirmed) for an episode in S4, not just Voyage. I don't know what DWM's got to say, but if it has confirmation then someone will upload it. I said not to add it wihtout a reliable source, and that would be one!--Rambutan (talk) 18:24, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

No problem, thanks for spotting it so quickly before it went out of control. You did the right thing taking it to WP:AN/I, the spam project (WP:WPSPAM) are excellent but rapid responses are sometimes needed. And thanks for helping clear out the spam. Neil  15:45, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply

I never edited a wiki page before and i cant see why this would have happened. I need to check the time of the edit again. This IP is not shared and this worries me. Its also Dynamic and only been active about 24 hours. Hmm. I may register. Thanks. 86.41.101.1 09:55, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Advice

First off, thanks for coming to me :-) - I appreciate it. The tag you are looking for: {{subst:notaforum}}. That's the warning on discussion pages. It's best right at the top, eye catching.
To tell users off for being naughty, here is the warnings {{subst:uw-chat1}}. If they continue to post off topic just keep going up in increments of one, e.g. {{subst:uw-chat2}}. I hope this helps, friend! And well done for being dedicated to the project. Tell me how you get on. Scarian 11:03, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

The Answer to The Answer

Your cleanup has been noble. There are still lots of issues with the page. No refs for anything... the lead claims sales figures but has no inlines to support them. Plus the line "They are tipped for big things from many in the rock music industry." is traight weasel words... and poorly written weasel words at that. :D . The History section is much better than it was but still needs lots of cleanup. The first 2 sentences of the sections opening paragraph are both run-ons. No encyclopedia article should use first name references in its text(unless its about 2 brothers or 2 people with the same last name) This article uses the first names of all the bands members like they're next door neighbours. "James had a burning desire to follow his own muse"?????? How encyclopedic is that line? The whole history section reads TOO familiar. Too loose. The choice of wording needs to be gone over and 'encyclopedic' terms substituted for teen slang. "Gigs" are "concerts" or "preformances"... "trawled through the ranks of everyone they knew in the Northern Irish music scene in their search for the ultimate rock voice" = "auditioned many vocalists from the Northern Ireland music scene in search of a specific vocal style that matched the bands music" (or whatever?). "building up a set The Answer could really rock with".... please!!!

Other issues are.... there's a trivia section which = ugly... The discography section uses images that are not fair-use... the source of the image in the infobox is questionable and the licensing is incomplete... The external links section contains a link to a discussion group.... lots of little things that need to either be repaired or deleted completely.

Can you see where I am coming from? It's like I tell everyone (or quote directly in my edit summaries WP:CITE, WP:V, WP:NPOV, WP:ATT, WP:AWW, WP:MoS.... read these, study these, know these like the back of your own hand... and every article you edit will be better when you are finished. And, as far as music articles go... style-wise... read WP:MUSTARD... it's all in there.

Hope that wasn't too harsh. And hope it helps. Should you decide to keep working on it... it can only be for the better. The article needs a lot of work. BTW... I noticed a couple of editors who seem to be fairly regular showups in the articles edit history... Hopefully they(one in particular) don't try to assist you since ne of them is a self-ordained music expert who couldn't fill a thimble with his so-called "expert musical knowledge" :D ... but I digress.

Good luck woth your article. And drop a line anytime you have any questions. I will gladly help... or at least point you in the right direction to someone who can. Have a nice day!!! 156.34.142.110 19:23, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
