An overview
NOTE: The information contained here is but an opinion of a few people, and may not, in many cases, pertain to reality.
National Public School is a school in Bangalore, started by Dr. K. P. Gopalkrishna; the present principal being Mrs. Shantamma Gopalkrishna . Its main campus is located on the Chord Road, 5th block Rajajinagar; and also has a smaller campus in 1st block, Rajajinagar. It is one of few schools in India given full autonomy by the CBSE
The Houses
Students are admitted to one of four houses
Phoenix
Centaur
Orion
Pegasus
Each house has its distinct identity, and while the house games are indeed quite competitive, students are not too concerned about their houses as such, concentrating more on working as a school, except perhaps, once in three years, when each house marches as part of the (tri)annual sports meet.
There are two cups given away at the end of the year to the winning house -- One cup based upon the performance of the house in athletics, sports etc. and another based upon the performance in the various clubs.
The student government
The student government body is headed by the school prefects, who are from grade 12. The other posts in the government are as follows: The vice-prefects, from grade 11. The house captains, from grade 12. The house vice-captains, from grade 11. The senior sports captains, from grade 11. The junior sports captains, from grade 7. Besides, the various associations (Computer, Science, Literary, Maths and Quiz) have their respective presidents and secretaries, one each for the senior and the junior categories.
School Events
The school organises a bi-annual inter-school fest. The fest, known as NaPSonic, sees a large number of teams from different schools competing fiercely to win the prizes for various events. To ensure the highest levels of fair play, the students of National Public School, Rajajinagar do not participate in the fests that the school holds.
The school also conducts a number of intra-school events, such as
- the Sports Day , with its drills and marchpast.
- Rhythms , the Annual Day, which stages dramas and enactments by all students of the school, with the exception of those belonging to classes 10 and 12 , for the school seems to believe that these are years when students must concentrate on their studies rather than on extra curricular activities.
- Spectrum , an event where students construct scientific models or computer programs and exhibit the same to parents.
In addition, each year the School organises a Graduation Day programme to bid adieu to the graduating students.
