Picture

Should we find a picture that maybe doesn't show her nipples? I'm not sure everyone that goes to this page wants to see boobies.

I actually have tried multiple times to replace the image. But User:ALENBA keeps on replacing it with the boob picture. Perhaps we should get the page protected.CoolKid1993 21:58, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Requested merger because:

Overlap is tremendous. Most people will search "Obama girl" and want both the video and the actress info.
Text is an admitted stub in actress article and unlikely to be expanded.
Virtually no one is searching for the exact capitalization and punctuation I Got a Crush... on Obama. If they're searching by video name, they have to hit that exactly, or get one of a dozen redirects.
There are numerous double redirects, indicating general need for cleanup.
There may be a case for notability of both the video and the actress, but neither is notable without the other. John J. Bulten (talk) 16:07, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Oppose merge, certainly in this direction. The video and the song is what became famous during the campaign; it needs to have its own article. That article name is a red herring, as it can be found via redirects. The double redirects are a red herring, as they can be fixed. Whether Ettinger deserves an article, I'm less sure about. That sounds like a good idea to me. It seems like the video is more notable than the person. Not that that says much. :-) p.s. Why does every "viral" video on the Internet seem so important to WP editors? I have noticed this before. Steve Dufour (talk) 15:42, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I think it's because many Misplaced Pages editors are reluctant to actually visit a library and read "hardcopy" sources. Which means, unfortunately, that if they want to add information to Misplaced Pages, they focus on what's easily accessible via the internet and television. To Obama Supporters. You Can Support Obama, But You Cannot Hype the Page

My source did say that she was well enough to attend a fundraiser party, while she also said she was too sick to vote for Obama when the press asked her during this party why she didn't vote for Obama. WIKIPEDIA IS NEUTRAL.Kevin j (talk) 17:06, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Voting

Before Kevin j continues edit warring on this article could he discuss the edit and answer the following;

"and told the press she was sick" - the cite talks of a personal conversation between the reporter and the subject. Where is "the press" (a plural) mentioned?
"got stranded in New York" - where is it mentioned that she "got stranded"?

There are also the following problems with your edit, I would appreciate your opinion of the following criticisms;

"Despite the large success of her viral Web tribute to Obama" - this is a leading statement, not neutral. You are combining two separate events and suggesting that one should have followed the other. That is your POV.
"However, while she was telling the press this on Super Tuesday" - another leading statement. You are connecting two events and implying there is something amiss. That is your POV.
"she was also seen interviewing voters across New York City as well." - You do not need to emphasise this with "also" and "as well". The "as well" is redundant.

Personally, I don't understand why her voting or not voting in the New Jersey primary after the nomination has been all but wrapped up is even newsworthy, let alone encyclopedia-worthy. She's a model and aspiring actress, not a political activist. Does her failure to vote somehow undermine her credibility as a model and actress? It's a complete non-issue. I vote for removing that paragraph from the article altogether. Kevin's comments above suggest that his additions to the article are motivated by his political opposition to Obama, which is pretty bizarre. Before anybody re-adds it, I hope they will first come to this Talk page and explain why it is noteworthy that the actress who plays Obama Girl voted in only one state primary, and whether he is interested in the voting habits of the actors who provide the voices for Lil' Bush or participate in political sketches on Saturday Night Live. YouTube video with Mike Gravel

A YouTube video was added May 7, 2008 with Obama Girl and presidential candidate, Mike Gravel called Mike Gravel Lobbies for the Obama Girl Vote. Should that be added to the article? EPM (talk) 19:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

citation needed

I added the following to the article:

It was her appearance on Howard TV that brought her to the attention of Leah Kaufman and Ben Relles, who then contacted her about appearing in "I Got a Crush... on Obama."

I remember her saying this in a television interview, but couldn't find a reliable source online. I hope somebody can come up with a good citation for this fact. Capedia (talk) 22:02, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Separate article for character?

Obama Girl redirects to this page, but O.G. is a character, while Amber Lee Ettinger is a person. I think 'twould make more sense for Obama Girl (the character) to be its own page, and I've Got a Crush... on Obama be merged into that new page. The new article could be about the character and all of her appearances, not just a single video. Fishal (talk) 20:09, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Image

We may have an edit war brewing. An anonymous user at 79.80.39.187 put a very risqué (maybe even NSFW) image in the article. I believe it was inappropriate for an encyclopedia article. I replaced it with something more appropriate. An anonymous user at 82.127.52.21 replaced the safe image with the risqué one. I put the safe image back. I don't blame the anonymous user for liking the risqué image -- it's pretty hot -- I just don't think it's appropriate for this use. Capedia (talk) 03:12, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I was actually at W when I saw it, and if I hadn't been alone it would definitely have been NS. Misplaced Pages's not censored, but there's no reason to use deliberately risque images when tamer ones do just as well illustrating the topic. Fishal (talk) 13:06, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. The risque should be used whenever possible. Especially when the subject is inherently sexual, like the "O. Girl" JeanLatore (talk) 19:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
