Kamen Rider Decade (仮面ライダーディケイド, Kamen Raidā Dikeido, Masked Rider DCD) is the title of the 2009 edition of the long-running Kamen Rider Series of tokusatsu dramas. Advertisements in Japanese magazines feature the title character amongst the title characters of the previous nine Heisei Kamen Rider Series, with the secondary riders of each series appearing in recent trailers. Decade, as its title suggests, is the tenth of the Heisei Rider Series, having begun with Kamen Rider Kuuga in 2000. It began broadcast the week following the finale of Kamen Rider Kiva and will be featured in Super Hero Time alongside the 2009 edition of the Super Sentai Series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. The catchphrase for the series is "Destroy everything, connect everything." (全てを破壊し、全てを繋げ, Subete o hakaishi, subete o tsunage).

Casting

Masahiro Inoue, who has portrayed Keigo Atobe in the Prince of Tennis musicals, has been cast in the lead role for Decade as Tsukasa Kadoya/Kamen Rider Decade. Also involved is Kanna Mori as Natsumi Hikari, and Renji Ishibashi as Natsumi's grandfather Eijiro Hikari. Another member of the cast is Tatsuhito Okuda as the mysterious Narutaki. Kamen Rider Kuuga's universe sports several characters have been renamed and cast with different actors. Ryouta Murai has been cast as Yuusuke Onodera who is the series' version of Kuuga.

Synopsis

The story revolves around the nine previous universes of the Heisei Kamen Riders merging into one, something that would destroy all the worlds. To prevent this, Tsukasa Kadoya transforms into Kamen Rider Decade to protect his own dimension by defeating the Kamen Riders of the other dimensions. These other dimensions, despite featuring the Kamen Riders of the previous nine series, feature changes to the general storyline of the shows from which they are based. In the world of Kamen Rider Kiva, the main character, Wataru, is a child, though the original version of Wataru, presumably from the previous series (though this might also be the future version of the Wataru who is seen in episode five of Decade), appears to Tsukasa and is instrumental in keeping the world on which he lives alive. Another change is that the world of Kamen Rider Ryuki sees the Kamen Riders of that world depicted as lawyers, and trials are handled by combat between Riders. As such, these worlds to which Tsukasa travels are either being altered in some manner by the merging of universes, or else they are simply 'what if' universes, and despite the previous rider suits and parts of the storylines for some worlds being utilized, they are not the original worlds from which Tsukasa draws his powers. Interestingly, the adult Wataru of Kiva claims that he and individuals to whom he refers as comrades are working to prevent the destruction of Tsukasa's world, yet so far only Wataru has been seen. Who these allies of his are has yet to be revealed.

So far, Tsuakasa has found himself in each world being drawn into conflict with each Kamen Rider, and in the travels to the alternate worlds of Kamen Rider Kuuga and Kiva, he has been attacked by the Riders of these worlds, each of whom is quick to refer to Decade as a 'devil', and claiming they have each heard of him as being the enemy of all Kamen Riders. This information appears to come from a mysterious man in glasses called Narutaki, who believes Decade should not exist in any world, and who himself appears to have the capacity to leap from world to world, and can also summon beings from other worlds or send them away, as evidenced when decade went to Kuuga's world. The reasons behind his dislike of Decade have yet to be revealed.

Rider War

The Rider Army (ライダー軍, Raidā Gun), first revealed in Natsumi Hikari's dream, composed of many Kamen Riders, all of whom where seemingly defeated by Kamen Rider Decade. However, Kamen Rider Kuuga survived the initial battle, assuming Ultimate Form to confront Decade once again with the two seemingly destroying each other in the ensuing battle.

Characters

As the story of Kamen Rider Decade takes place amongst many different dimensions, the characters and settings change as the series go on. The only constant characters are Tsukasa Kadoya and the Hikari family: Natsumi Hikari and her grandfather, Eijiro. However, the group is joined by various members of the Rider Worlds that they visit. So far, the group has been joined by Yuusuke Onodera of Kuuga's World and Kivala of Kiva's World.

Generally, episodes of Decade are titled similarly to the episodes of the series that they reference. Kamen Rider Kuuga's episodes were titled with only two kanji, and episodes of Kamen Rider Kiva have a musical reference and musical notation in the title.
