Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

    Frank J. Tipler (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary SP/FP. Myself and an IP user are edit warring over the copy-editing of the Frank Tipler article. I've shown good faith to the IP and I want to work with him/her. The courtesy isn't extended, and the IP simply reverts things and claim to have consensus even though there isn't (if there were, we wouldn't be edit warring). Another user (third opinion) said he'd request protection, but apparently he forgot or was denied. I'm afraid that without semiprotection, the IP will never engage in productive discussion. Headbomb {κοντριβς – WP Physics} 07:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. SoWhy 07:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Declined, user can be blocked for edit-warring. SoWhy 09:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
    Alright, then a block then. Where do I request that if not here?Headbomb {κοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:52, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

The Golden Goblet (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, This is another attempt to get protection for this article. Goodness knows why but it's a regular target of vandalism by anon IPs. Request turned down last time because there wasn't enough recent activity. Well, check out the article's history - vandalism is pretty much the only activity. andy (talk) 08:06, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Declined, only activity != enough activity. Sorry but one vandalism edit every few days does not warrant protection. SoWhy 08:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Australian Communications and Media Authority (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection dispute, This page has made this news (, ) and there is an on going edit war with an IP disrupting wikipedia to prove a point (See the talk page). Bidgee (talk) 08:03, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Disruption to prove a point is vandalism, not a content dispute. SoWhy 08:50, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

    Talk:Andrea James (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Attacks from a number of ip addresses. Ongoing. Monkey Bounce (talk) 07:35, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Usually I am hesitant regarding protection of talk pages with protected articles but such personal attacks cannot be tolerated. SoWhy 07:48, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

    Wind turbine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Jim Clark (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Request semi-protection. Article is vandalised (reverted to an old non-NPOV version) on average every 2 days by an IP editor with an IP address of the form 79.206.xx.xx (presumably it's the same editor each time). DH85868993 (talk) 06:50, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

    Talim (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection - persistent vandalism. Recurring anon vandal comes back after the page's previous protection period ending. Vandal is pushing nationalism, despite discussion on the talk page and so forth. Third time protection has been requested, the previous two times successful but anon returns after each previous protection period ended.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 03:37, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Endless vandalism by several IP anons, I think a semi-protection for a period of two weeks would be good, because all of us have better things to do then constantly reverting vandalism. —Krm500 21:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Declined, seems to have stopped. SoWhy 07:20, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

    Bagpipes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection dispute, Edit war is brewing. Editor has refused to discuss as asked in both rollback description and on their talk page. Quaeler (talk) 16:17, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

    • There's been no further edits on this article because i've ceased reverting to avoid 3RR. The editor in question is still mum on actually discussing this despite attempts. The meta of this situation seems pretty imbalanced.. editor can add whatever they want, another editor looking to introduce process and avoid 3RR is pretty impotent to stop them. Quaeler (talk) 16:53, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
      • There's been continued silence and has been community participation, so i'd like to go ahead and withdraw this request. Thanks. (Please let me know if i should label a withdraw with a template in the future, to automate clean-up as possible.) Quaeler (talk) 21:25, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Semi-Protection, as non-registered users keep adding in spammy commercial links. The same IP block adds those links elsewhere as well, and I'll follow up with those pages, but it is worst here.
