South Australian Museum
Regarding this edit, you say: Removed category "Visitor attractions in Adelaide".
Sorry to bother you, but could you tell me why you removed it?
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 23:47, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Because Category:Museums in Adelaide is already a subcategory of Category:Visitor attractions in Adelaide. Articles thus shouldn't be appearing in both categories simultaneously. Bearcat (talk) 23:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. Thanks for the clarification. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 23:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
State Library of South Australia
BTW: I undid your change to the cat on the page itself - it is more usefully sorted under "library" than under "state". Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 23:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh dear! it is more usefully sorted under "Library" than under "State". My apologies! Pdfpdf (talk) 23:59, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Speedy delete of Leagurian Mountains failed!
Hi; as you're an Ontarian, and also an admin, I'm coming to you about the waste of time that User:Mizu onna sango15 has just incurred. Last night User:Black Tusk very rightly placed a "speedy delete" tag on Leagurian Mountains, which is some kind of sophomoric joke connected to the Appalachian League baseball league and it was removed this morning by Miza onna sango15 as "not meeting speedy delete criteria". ?!?!?!?!?!? My respnnse to her was, well, fairly shocked - she's a Londoner, if somebody started putting spurious topography in London, e.g. a mountain range spanning Croydon and Whitehall, do you think it would need a full AFD to be deleted? Now, unless I'm wrong and there is a mountain range spanning the shore of Hudson Bay from Manitoba to Quebec.......not on any map I've ever seen. There are times that Ithink the Misplaced Pages admin-making process should include an intelligence test, and a basic geographic knowledge test, this is one of them. If someone made The Sinking of England about how England disappeared yseterday, it wouldn't need a full AFD, right? Anyway maybe you have the authority to just delete this bit of Yankee-joke fluff....I didn't watch Stephen Colbert these last few days, it's of the same order as is "Idaho's Portugal" which cause so much trouble for the Oregon article a while back....Skookum1 (talk) 13:01, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Another admin speedy-delete blooper
Please see User_talk:Promethean/MXams#Category:Russian_colony_of_Alaska, which is another decline-speedy-delete bit of admin-twaddle. I wish I had a bot to automate creating CFDs/AFDs as it's time-consuming to do and a bloody waste of time. This should have passed no problems, and we were instructed to do it, in fact, by another admin on Talk:CFD when I asked about it before Xmas; user:Jaraalbe's been away and just got to it last night; I hate getting kicked in the teeth by people who don't konw teh subject matter, don't care, and only want to enforce rules. Misplaced Pages needs admin reform....Skookum1 (talk) 19:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for simplifying that, Bearcat.Skookum1 (talk) 01:38, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
RDs again
I don't want to get us in a fuss again, but thought I'd drop mention to you of my comments on Talk:Strathcona Regional District about the impracticality of regional district categories being used for geographic classification; the SRD is a case-in-point of one kind of problem; there are others but i won't go into it for now, just wanting to keep you apprised of the issues involved. There are fairly precise, often very precise, definitions for the traditional "countries" (not all use the "country" appellation) and they're very current in BC to this day in terms of what people actually use as self-referential terms for where somewhere is; another related discussion is on Talk:Merritt,_British_Columbia#Nicola_Valley_vs_Nicola_Country; similarly I think it's on Talk:Slocan Valley where a similar valley/country distinction is made; in other areas "Bulkley Country" is pretty clearly the Bulkley Valley though might also include the Bulkley Ranges, at least those parts of those ranges facing the Bulkley River...it's when something like Mount Waddington is stated as being "in" a regional district when its most obvious geographic classification is "Pacific Ranges"/Coast Mountains that it gets a bit ridiculous; a place like Chilko Lake is known for being in the Chilcotin not for being part of the Cariboo Regional District, if anything the Williams Lake Forest District see this google, which even the Ministry of Tourism uses as a reference (as noted before, BCGNIS and CGNDB use the Land District system); similarly Marble Canyon sites astride the SLRD and TNRD boundary; but in most government texts and academic writings it will be described as being in the Kamloops Forest District (as noted elsewhere, Forest Districts have more power and more recognition in the areas affected than the RDs, which most poeple regard as nuisances and are really just excuses for mayors to lord it over people who don't want to live in their towns LOL). Anyway not wanting to stir it up, just sharing some information by way of education; the misconeptions that arise when somebody sees that Atlin is the Stikine Region just don't make sense if you don't know that capital-R Stikine Region is part of the (non-)regional district in that area and has nothing to do with the Stikine small-r region aka Stikine Country...ditto something like Tatlatui Provincial Park being in the Peace River Regional District really just because the RD's boundaries take in the basin of the Finlay, which is hundreds of miles from the Peace River, and the Peace River Country.....Skookum1 (talk) 17:55, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- further to previous, other editors not familiar with BC often shorten "regional district" to either "region" or "district", which causes the confusions I'm alluding to above; the SRD thing came up because someone had categorized it only within a Vancouver Island category; that's where most of its population is; most of its actual landscape is either the Discovery Islands or the adjoining mainland flanking Bute Inlet.Skookum1 (talk) 17:57, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- After our previous contretemps I knew what was needed was an article with putative title Political geographic classification systems in British Columbia ("Political geography of British Columbia" would have political content...maybe Political geographic units of British Columbia would work...) where all the different tiers/structures of political-regional subdivisions of BC could be laid out and compared; Counties, Forest Districts, Health Districts, MoE/Parks regions, Mining Districts/divisions (once the basic division, other than LDs but originally the same thing), regional districts, and Tourism regions. They're all used, depending on the context; the Tourism regions almost might mmake the best sense, except for the rebranding in some cases ("Kootenay Rockies" which really is "Kootenays and Rockies"). But in some very vast areas, the only monenclature available is the plateau or mountain range, e.g. the Cassiar Mountains, the Liard Plateau, or the name of the river e.g . Tatshenshini-Alsek, or as in the case with Mt Waddignton above, which isn't in the Cariboo - or the Chilcotin - and isn't on the Coast; it's just in the Coast Mountains....the Tourism regions work sometimes very well, e.g. Thompson-Okanagan, Coast-Cariboo-Chilcotin; but not always; because so many combine the traditional "countries" in their names, whether RDs or Tourism distircts or MoE regions, the easiest thing, to me, was to create a system of region cats based on the "countries" system...it only doesn't work when there's no "country" name for certain areas - mostly unpopulated ones, as in the far north or in the densest parts of the mountains....Skookum1 (talk) 18:23, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've also pondered a substyle guide for BC, because of our many "special usages" which aren't covered in CanStyle...Skookum1 (talk) 18:25, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- And since I'm ranting :-) I might as well note that geographic regions, geologic regions, ecoregions, biogeoclimatic regions, hydrologic regions and other purely-geographic systems in BC are also all different; and some articles have been written from the one perspective/system that coopt/share titles with those used by others.....the old line about Canada having too much geography, not enough history, is even more true in BC, where we've got more geography - more rivers, more mountains, more mountain ranges, more named localities - than seemingly anywhere else, even in comaprison to Washignton and Alaska....Skookum1 (talk) 18:27, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

- The font used in the map was converted to script because it is not a typically compatible font. To be corrected, numbers will either have to be copied and pasted into place or all of the text will have to be rebuilt. I would rather do the latter, since it makes multilingual versions easier to create. I don't have time to do this now but will work on it this afternoon, and create multilingual versions since the French article doesn't have a map. vıdıoman 13:10, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Minor-edit by default
I noticed that almost all of your edits are only a couple of chars, but only a few of those have the M flag. Have you seen the option in the prefs to mark edits as minor by default? Or is this a bot thing? Maury Markowitz (talk) 22:40, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't know if you'd see a reply on my page, so I'll do it here. I use a simply algo for this: if the edit does not make a content change to the page, it is, IMHO, minor. Changes to spelling, grammar, formatting, adding links or removing them - these are all minor edits. So is adding and removing cats - they aren't changing the content of the actual article.
- The tool you mention is absolutely making minor edits. Even the edits that aren't cat-edits are also minor, looking over your list of last 20 edits. So why not turn it on and see what happens? Without experiments, there is no progress. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Categories on Radia
Hi. You removed two categories from the Radia article and I think you're wrong. Also, I think you should have explained your modification. The Radio program category is relevant because Radia is a radio program! The Radio category is also relevant because Radia, as a radio program and as a network, intends to bring reflection on radio as a medium. --Etiennen (talk) 13:25, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

No content in Category:Panamanian short story writers
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Panamanian short story writers, by another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Panamanian short story writers has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Panamanian short story writers, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Proposed deletion of Rusty (band)
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Rusty (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- nn band completely unreferenced
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image copyright problem with File:Lost Channels.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Lost Channels.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Misplaced Pages's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Misplaced Pages can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}

Hi, Bearcat! Could you leave the "people" categories when you make changes like this one? Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 00:36, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know of any special exemptions from the category tree? Due to ongoing discussions about LGBT professions, I've been trying to keep people in both the professions tree and the location tree. Is there a different course of action that would be better? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 16:35, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- So wait - you're saying that it's correct to have ":Gay writers" and ":LGBT writers from Norway" on the article, but that adding ":LGBT people from Norway" is duplicating things and assuming something will be deleted? I think we're both trying to work things out, and until that's been done, it's better to err on the side of too many categories (where users will still be able to find their articles whatever way they traverse the category trees) than too few. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 05:26, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Why RDs suck
Hi; a discussion at what is now titled List of filming locations in Metro Vancouver hits on a few of the very serious problems involved with using regional district-names as if they were valid as geographic divisions of BC. Please have a look at Talk:List_of_filming_locations_in_Metro_Vancouver#Third_opinion and its preceding sections; User:Ol'English did an end-run on preventing a change to List of filming locations in Greater Vancouver by creating that (i.e. the redirect); it had been "in and around Vancouver" and I had suggested "Vancouver and area" or "Greater Vancouver", but he had decided "Metro Vancouver" was so cool-sounding and "proper" that he dug in his heels, called in a Third Opinion. It's just so wrong (and if you'll forgive me, icky-Toronto-sounding - some standa-alone uses of "Metro" in the Vancouver article I quickly ditched the other day - "creeping Torontofication", like referring to the Cariboo or Okanagan as "cottage country"). RDs are not involved in the film indusry, the film industry does not think in temrs of or define its operations based on regional district boundaries, teh film industry in the Lower Mainland regularly shoots at locations in other RDs than "Metro Vancouver", but still refer to those locations as "Vancouver" (i.e. from LA's/NYC's/Toronto's perspective). This is only one of the many problems posed by Wikipedians deicding that it's "proper" to use RD names for all kinds of things that don't have anything to do with RDs. WP:Wiki-ism is a section/page I'm thinking of starting, on the issue of Wikipedian conventions becoming influential, which just shouldn't be; it's effectively synthesis to use definitions in ways they weren't intended for, it's that simple. I'm plopping this here because you're an admin and there's a redirect immediately blocking a name change I woudl have done before the third opinion was called in; but the redirect was deliberately created, IMO, at the same time as the third opinion was called in, expressly to prevent me from doing that.....not good faith, no, but given the stonewalling and the timing I know what's worth having faith in....Skookum1 (talk) 04:21, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

It's gotten to be quite a game, every time we take out his comparison of Haida war tactics to those of the Mongols and Japanese, he puts it back in; THAT is not in the Museum of Civilization material, but much of teh rest is; I just reversed his latest edits, which as you'll find in talkpage comments User:BrainyBabe had wondered why they were taken out, and others put in. My Story (Julie Couillard book)
Per this edit and your summary, "disambiguate books by the author's full name, not just their surname": That's not what Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (books) says. The section on disambiguation reads, "If further disambiguation is needed, add the author's surname in parentheses: "(Orwell novel)", "(Asimov short story)", etc." That's the guideline I was following when I moved the page.--ShelfSkewed Talk 19:50, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- I guess I don't get it. I don't understand why her obscurity justifies an exception to the guideline. Her full name already redirects to the book, so adding the first name to the book-title disambiguation gains you nothing for a User using Go or Search to find her. I'm not going to cough up a hairball over this--there are hundreds of books, if not thousands, that already flout this convention, so perhaps it's the standard disambiguation for books that ought to be changed. RE: Radio rebroadcasters
Thanks for the information. The reason why i've been adding CRTC links to each rebroadcaster in the radio station articles is because I feel that it will show wikipedia readers historic information of when the stations/rebroadcasters were first licenced to sign on the air. Note that CRTC broadcastign decisions only date back to 1984, there's none prior to that date. Not only i've done that to CBSI-FM, I did that to like a hundred other stations across Canada, a lot of them CBC stations, First Nations stations, etc. In some articles, I had also converted some rebroadcasters to the Template:RadioRebroadcaster template. Webfan29 07:00, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Great idea! but before I even add license links to the articles again, do you mind showing me how to integrate licensing information into the text of the radio station articles incase I make any errors, etc.? look at CBH-FM, CBLA-FM for example, there are still licences in the rebroadcasters table that I had created a few days ago.
I had found some radio hoaxes but hopefully this is it. In CBD-FM, I had removed some hoax rebroadcasters from that article such as: CBOY St. Martins, New Brunswick on 1660 AM, along with a couple of other ones CBFY-FM Sussex and CBKJ-FM in St. Andrews. I don't think any CBC radio station in Canada operates above AM 1600 kHz and highly doubt that will ever happen. I had converted the CBD rebroadcasters to the RadioRebroadcaster template.
If you have time, please show me how to integrate licensing information into the text of the radio station articles. This could take forever to remove all the CRTC links and move them to the appropriate area. Thanks. Webfan29 14:57, 16 Febrary 2009 (UTC)

HOPE (band), which I found in List of bands from Canada. It seems to be a abnd from the early 1990s that has since created a MySpace account. I can find nothing much about them outside MySpace, except for a listing in canoe.ca (not sure if that's sufficient). I figured as the resident Canadian media/music connoisseur, you may have input into this. (I think it fails WP:BAND, but I don't follow the music scene all that much.) - Hi Bearcat, why have you removed the category of Puerto Rican writers from Julia de Burgos? Don't you think that it would have been best to have posted a notice in the Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico as to your intentions of undoing categories related to Puerto Rico at a mass scale and at least asked the opinion of the Puerto Rican community in Misplaced Pages before doing so? For example, we understand that the "category Puerto Rican politicians" refers to Puerto Ricans involved in politics regardless of the place where they hold office and a simple sentence in the cat. page would have been enough as a clarification? Tony the Marine (talk) 21:28, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
- You stated: "And one doesn't require the permission of a WikiProject to apply proper categorization rules". No one is telling you nor asking you to ask for permission. What I have stated is that out of "courtesy' to the Puerto Rican community you should have posted a notice in the Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Puerto Rico as to your intentions of undoing categories related to Puerto Rico. Most users who are non-Puerto Rican normally do so to aviod the misunderstanding which may come of your actions. Is that asking too much or too hard to understand? Tony the Marine (talk) 21:41, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Ontario Locator map
Hi Bearcat, following up on this CWNB thread, have a look at my test page and tell me what you think. The base map is here. Because of the way the map system works, I made some templates of my own, the map encapsulation and a bastardized copy of {{Location map skew}}.
My examples work fairly well but not quite exact and I can't pin down any systematic error in rotation, boundary/scale, skew, etc. Is there any way you can set up AWB to run through some examples? And do you think it's worth pursuing any further? The base map has been repeatedly manipulated and pinning down the exact boundary locations could be a bit of a trick. Well it was fun to try anyway. :) Cheers! Franamax (talk) 07:14, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Tricky Woo
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tricky Woo, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- has no independent third party sources to establish its inherent notability.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
John Baird on parliamentary democracy
It appears that you have removed an entire section relating to John Baird's comments regarding parliamentary democracy from his bio. If you did so, I kindly request to know why. They reflect his view on the legitimacy of a direct democracy approach to governance that is at odds with our system of parliamentary democracy and deserves to be known. The comments were transcribed from, and were linked to, a primary source. The section also contained the different view of Newman regarding legitimacy of governments under a parliamentary democracy. I initially thought it was a simple case of vandalism but, since you have admin status, I await enlightment as to why it is not.
Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.146.248.44 (talk) 02:04, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- The purpose of Misplaced Pages is not to provide transcripts of every individidual interview that a politician happens to give to a media outlet. Our purpose here to provide a broad, contextualized and neutral overview of the topic, and the segment in question simply didn't serve any of those purposes. If and when his views on parliamentary democracy actually have a documentable impact on something more than his ability to have a civil conversation with Don Newman, then they'll be worth noting — but until then our purpose here isn't to be a quotes database. Bearcat (talk) 02:07, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. My initial reaction is that you are likely incorrect that the views regarding parliamentary democracy of John Baird are not relevant to his biography until they have a "documentable impact." That is a particular view of biography which I think is too limited. There is such a thing as intellectual biography. In fact, I think it is ludicrous to think that, given the political context of the time of Baird's comments on democracy, the potential non-confidence vote of the Government, that Baird's views against the legitimacy of parliamentary democracy do not contribute to a "broad, contextualized, neutral" biography and have no impact. His reporting of his own views and attributing them to the Government had a definite impact if you recall: namely, the prorogation of Parliament to avoid a non-confidence vote. Contrary to what you say, a context was given prior to the quotation provided and could have been filled out in more detail as the entry progressed. The point is not that the subentry on Baird's views against parliamentary democracy were perfect and complete. They could do with some additional context and editing. But the nature of Misplaced Pages is that one builds from small contributions into something better, so that simply deleting entries that you don't think have reached a high standard is inappropriate. Further, I don't think that providing a quotation makes Misplaced Pages a "quotes database." That is an exageration, obviously, as many articles contain quotations without being "quote databases". I will take another look at the Misplaced Pages policies to see if your position can be plausibly derived from them. Finally, your method of editing - by simply deleting without providing any comments - is a disservice to people who are spending their time editing content on Misplaced Pages. If you think that something violates policies, then refer to them in the comments.

When I added my discussion, I had indicated that I was satisfied that "consensus" would prevail. I received the replies and I realized that I was mistaken about David Brodbeck not being a psychologist. In fact, I verified, the Psychology Act- and there is subcategory that indicates that professors of psychology are permitted to use the title "psychologist". Hi Bearcat I'm Matthew and I'm in the Philippines. I've tried to give you guys some photos but seem to be going no where. I know a little about copy right. I've given you my photos as copy right free. The photos on my own site I want to keep my copy right options open. Which is only fair. I've uploaded several photos and they seem to be in limbo. Can you help in any way I just going round in circles here. Acred99 (talk) 06:10, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Acred, the problem here is that you are trying to offer your images under an invalid license. You show a good CC-BY-SA license, yet you also link to your website which reserves commercial rights - that's not a valid license for Misplaced Pages, you have to license the images for any use whatsoever. You can't give them away for free here and restrict usage on your own site. You need to modify your site to license the images there as CC-BY-SA, for instance change this page to show the image as licensed for Creative Commons. You have to decide, do you want to make the images completely free or do you want to own them? Franamax (talk) 06:40, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi Franamax Thanks for your time on this. I have adjusted my site webpage at the bottom of the page http://www.asisbiz.com/downloads.html and changed the license to CC-BY-SA. Re: Defunct CBC Stations
Thanks for clarifying the situation regarding those defunct CBC stations. I thought that since the station still technically exists, it would be appropriate to place the current callsigns of the stations in the infobox and the lead.
However I am confused regarding stations like CBSET-1. Shouldn't the article be at CFKL-TV and not CBSET-1? Shouldn't be also be in the defunct category as the station ceased being its own station a long time ago.
I also am confused about CFLA-TV, the stations ceased being its own station in 1991 and became a rebroadcaster of CBNT. Should the station be considered defunct as well?
Thanks. єmarsee • Speak up! 23:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
- On CBSET-1, Misplaced Pages contradicts itself. The CBSET-1 article claims "CFKL-TV became CBSET-1, a repeater of Sept-Îles' CBSET which, in turn, is a semi-satellite of Montreal's CBMT" (inferring that the content differences, however minimal, are between Sept-Îles and Montréal - with Sept-Îles and Schefferville content being identical) while the CBSET article redirects to CBMT (inferring that there is no content difference between Sept-Îles and Montréal, but minor differences in Schefferville) as CBMT's article has '"CBSET" redirects here. For the semi-satellite station of CBMT, see CBSET-1.' Which is correct? --66.102.80.212 (talk) 01:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Malcolm Norris and James P. Brady
Bearcat, I disagree with you moving Jim and Malcolm into the "First Nations leaders from Alberta" category.
Jim and Malcolm were Metis leaders, First Nations in my understanding usually refers to what are called Status Indian people in Canadian law. Metis are not First Nations, though they are an Aboriginal people in their own right, neither are Inuit.
Wyldkat 12, March, 2008.
I guess my concern is that it may lead to confusion amongst Non-Aboriginal Canadians (where considerable confusion and ignorance already, unfortunately, exists) to classify M. Norris and M. Brady as "First Nations." In response to your suggestion a "Metis Leaders," "Metis People from Alberta/Saskatchewan," "Aboriginal Leaders," or "Aboriginal Activists" might be ideal category headings, the last two being of wider scope.
The Canadian Constitution delineates three Aboriginal peoples as having special status within the federation: First Nations, Metis, and Inuit. I am viewing things through that perspective, although of course the government is not the only one who defines people.

Pierre Trudeau's Anti-Communism
Bearcat - you write that "Canadian Prime Ministers were never "leaders" of the Cold War." Well, using that logic, Canadian Prime Ministers, by virtue of Canada's influence, can NEVER be leaders of anything internationally, Cold War or otherwise. Obviously, a Canadian PM could never go to the Brandenberg Gate and order Gorbachev to "tear down this wall." He would have looked foolish. Reagan, on the other hand, due to the military might on his side, was credible when he said that.
If you read Peter C. Newman's "Secret Mulroney Tapes," you will notice that Newman writes extensively about how Mulroney said that he "brokered" peace deals between Bush and and Gorbachev "right here in Ottawa." Is that not leadership? Is that not anti-communism?Sopm (talk) 16:02, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

It is, however, usual practice to list EPs in a separate section within discography articles, at least it hasn't been an issue on any of the discographies I've taken to FL-class. EPs may be treated as albums in North America, however, in the UK they qualify as singles and chart as such. Recently, i've been creating new radio station articles, updating and adding them, etc. I've even updated some radio and television stations in the states, such as WLLW, WIVB-TV in Buffalo, New York, a television station that used to be on cable TV systems in Northern Ontario many years ago. Take care. Webfan29 16:00, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
AfD for article MedicLINK Systems Ltd.
Hi Bearcat;
The article I referenced is now a defunct company which has been getting some vandalism as of late; could be due to an irate employee. The article itself is borderline noteworthy, but with its closure I feel it's no longer noteworthy. Would you mind given me the readers digest version of nominating the article for AfD.
Thanks, HJKeats

Category:Submersed songs
I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Misplaced Pages pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted, without discussion, in accordance with Misplaced Pages:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding ] to articles/subcategories that belong in it.
I blanked the category page. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of blanking and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to revert the blanking if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion if the category remains empty.
If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.
I am a human being, not a bot, so you can contact me if you have questions about this. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 00:43, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not being an admin, I can't delete it immediately. However, I'll shepherd it through the process since you're unwilling to db-author it. --Stepheng3 (talk) 04:23, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Copyright (band)
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Copyright (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- unreferenced, notability not established
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Deleted page
Hello Bearcat. I was wondering why you have deleted my "After Nine Series" page that was in progress. Reason says it was because no major station has aired it yet. I may be wrong, but I find that a little... confusing. I search on wikopedia for plenty of topics that are not 'major league endorsed' and find them just fine. Add to that, After nine has had 8300 views (For the Trailer) and some of the interest has been sparked by Wikopedia. I simply find it a little offensive that in order to be on wikopedia you need to be a "Brand name star", which is one of the reasons you have deleted the page. It's no big deal I guess, just thought I should write out my slight frustrations, and please keep in mind that we all have to start somewhere. That doesn't make us any less important than David Caruso. BTW, I'm not trying to be a smartass, and hope I haven't offended you somehow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arthurjamesjr (talk • contribs) 14:21, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
NA of Q
Hey,
I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was trying to stop a very "Québécois"-centric editing of the english text. Just because it's law or custom in Québec doesn't mean it is gospel in the rest of the English (or even French) speaking world. I grew up in Québec, but do not view the world through the same "Bill 101" glasses as the seperatists. I just thought the constant battle of versions needed to stop. I try to see things from all sides. --Never give up! Never surrender! (talk) 01:36, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

New Article Editor Request
Dear Bearcat, I like your style. I would deeply appreciate it if you would take a look at my next article that I'm writing on my user page. Thanks for the help. I think that while Wiki speak is not my native language, I can now ask where the bathroom is and order a beer. I'm getting there - slowly. Comments are welcomed!.--designerx (talk) 00:21, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Ladner
I made a few changes to the Ladner article: Chiefly, I changed the tag from COI to NPOV. I hope this is acceptable. The NPA lost in the 2008 elections but some of the article reads in the present tense. I'm also trying to source an image of Ladner from someone and NPOV may be more palatable. Anyway, I'm not at all enamoured with Vancouver politicians and am from the Fraser Valley....but since Ladner's sister's death is now in a Vancouver Sun editorial this Wedneday, maybe a picture would help.
- PS: I did source this image of Surrey mayor Dianne L. Watts as mayor. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:52, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- I have now added a Commons picture of Ladner...in much happier times. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:12, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Proposed Burnaby rename categories
Hey there, I check on on Burnaby's talk page for an example and you support renaming all of it's titles from City, Province to it's City name only and I was wondering I propose the nominated categories for 5 Burnaby related categories to be renamed and I did so if you want to check the categories go to today's Categories for discussion to match it's main article title and let you if you could support renaming those categories click on this link located above. Steam5 (talk) 04:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, you haven't discussed for the propsed Burnaby categories 2 days ago, 2 of the user opposed renaming, so I want to go to Friday's Categories for discussion and talk to User:jc37 and User:Peterkingiron to settle those renamed Burnaby categories to settle it's discussion for the City only related main article titles. Go to this link on top. Steam5 (talk) 01:48, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Billy Bob
I was reading WP:CANTALK yesterday and drew a blank at your Billy Bob Thornton reference, then I went home and out of the blue my wife asked if I had heard his Q interview, so I watched it...top marks.--kelapstick (talk) 17:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Rassy Ragland
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Rassy Ragland, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Article fails WP:N as has not received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Also, notability is not inherited from famous husband or son.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). Linkspam
Did you review Cherryflavouredantacid (talk · contribs)'s edits before reverting mine? Over the course of three months, every single edit by that user added a link to Chartattack. Whether or not it's a reliable source, it's linkspam. Please consider reverting yourself. TheJazzDalek (talk) 12:28, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
- It really doesn't matter how the link was added, if it's a valid and permissible link to a valid WP:RS. There's no point in removing it just because of who added it the first time, if it would be a perfectly valid link to be readded again later by somebody else. WP:SPAM talks about the kinds of links that aren't wanted at all, and says nothing whatsoever about deeming valid and reliable source links to be spam just because of the process by which they happen to have been added. It's not "linkspam" if it's a reliable and valid source, because WP:SPAM is about unwanted links. Bearcat (talk) 20:17, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
- Not true. It's about unwanted promotion. If 50 different people each add a different review from the same site to 50 different articles, that's fine. One person doing the same thing (and only adding links for that one site) is promoting the website. TheJazzDalek (talk) 23:18, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
- A valid link is a valid link, period. Whether intentionally or not, what you're doing communicates a dismissal of the website's basic validity as a source. What it communicates is "this is an invalid link", not "the user who added it should have used a different process" — because other users can't see your internal rationale for removing the link, it loses that context and just comes off as "Chart is always a spam site and links to it are always spam" instead. Which is why my bottom line remains that if the link is valid in its own right — and Chart is a major Canadian music magazine — then it's a valid link no matter what. Your edits
Thanks for your edits on my page about TEAMS Design. My only problem is that while what you did makes a lot of sense when I look at the final result, I have no understanding of how you did it. Can you recommend a book or good site on Misplaced Pages formatting for dummies? I would be the dummy here. I 'd like to change that. I am also editing the site for our design organization now (I volunteered). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks againdesignerx (talk) 16:52, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Regarding categories for This Sporting Life (radio program)
Hi,
I'm still learning about how/when/why to apply categories & it seems like it can be a bit tricky. I've just re-read the relevant section of WP:CAT but am still unsure about applicability of 2 categories I'd previously added & I'm not sure the removal of them takes into account the way in which they apply to the topic.
{Your note on their removal: (categorize radio shows by what they are (radio shows), not by the broad topic-overview categories pertaining to what they're about.)}
I added the 'Australian culture' and 'Performing arts in Australia' categories not because the show often is about those things but because the show itself represents Australian culture & Performing arts in Australia (it is two comedians performing the whole time). Would the categories apply under these circumstances? (Or is it a matter of subcategorisation?) Thanks very much.

Hello. I was just looking through "recent changes", and suddenly found that you made a questionable rollback as seen here. However, I also want you to explain it as I'm not sure if it's actually unjust or not. Thank you. —Mythdon t/c 03:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
