The Patriotic Nigras, (also known by the acronym "PN") are a group of griefers in the online world of Second Life.

While the PN are known mainly for the disruption of Second Life, they have also established themselves on the video sharing site YouTube, where they share videos of their activities. Their method of attack ranges from trolling a group or individual to the manipulation of the in-game scripting engine, where they perform such activities as showering their targets with boxes covered in internet memes and shock images. These boxes then produce storms of graphical particles that block the victim's vision. They have also created avatars similar to the resident they have been harassing and destroyed it in gruesome ways to simulate a virtual death. The Patriotic Nigras have also caused the crashing of several Second Life regions or "simulators" by using self-replicating objects that overload the processing power of the computer running the simulator.

To further their aims on Second Life, the Patriotic Nigras developed a modified Second Life client called ShoopedLife that allowed them to bypass many of the hardware-banning powers typically used by Linden Labs to prevent persistent griefers from accessing Second Life. In July 2008, ShoopedLife was further modified to utilize the LUA codebase to automate specific functions of the regular client. In December 2008, the main developer for ShoopedLife, "N3X15," left the Patriotic Nigras, effectively ending development of the client. This posed no issue until late June 2009, when ShoopedLife's script compiling engine became outdated, forcing the Patriotic Nigras to begin work on the successor to the original client, ThugLyfe.

History

The group was started in 2006 by an anonymous user known as "Mudkips Acronym" after a post on the website 7chan asked whether or not Second Life "was raidable". There were 143 members as of September 2007, of which around 35–60 were active. The Patriotic Nigras are said to operate hundreds, if not thousands, of Second Life accounts.

"Mudkips Acronym" resigned as leader of the Patriotic Nigras in August 2007 after a spy within the organization obtained his personal information and gave it to an anti-griefing organization within Second Life called Justice League Unlimited. The information was then quickly published on the Internet and Mudkips resigned in fear that it would be used to compromise his security. According to a griefing publication, the leader of the group as of 2008 is known by the screen name "FrizzleFry101".

In February 2007, the group gained media coverage after an attack on the Second Life headquarters of politician John Edwards in which the Patriotic Nigras attacked with their avatars bearing "Bush 08" buttons and defaced Edwards's structure with feces, Marxist/Leninist posters, and obscenity. They also received coverage for an attack on a room where Second Life user Anshe Chung was being interviewed after making over one million dollars in real world money off the game. The room was invaded by flying penises. This incident was also blamed on the "Room 101" group.

The group was at first tolerated by the producers of Second Life, Linden Lab, but after the John Edwards attack they began to crack down and now take efforts to find and ban griefers on sight; however, the Patriotic Nigras have found ways to bypass the bans Linden Lab typically employs. Second Life implements bans through IP address, MAC address, special files downloaded into the Second Life cache from the server, and certain processor and other hardware information. The IP address bans can be bypassed by proxies, and the rest can be bypassed with special software such as the in-development ThugLyfe client.

The Patriotic Nigras operate their own wiki based on the MediaWiki engine where they store snippets of code, fully scripted weapons, the history of their group, and the personal information of their targets.
