Ryan Martinie (aka "Ryknow" or "R-ud") is the bass guitarist in the Alternative Metal band Mudvayne. He is within a beholder's eye of one of the elite of bassists in the heavy metal genre. He is ideally known for his jazz influenced slap bass technique, as well as using a myriad of other bass techniques. He has also pioneered a new technique, using his double-jointed fingers to create a "semi-pop" sound. He has said that one of his influences is Rush bassist Geddy Lee, but the inspiration is much more vast than just progressive bass playing. He also has extended bass solos at some Mudvayne concerts.
Ryan plays on Warwick "Thumb" 4-string (tuned CGCF and BF#BE) and 5-string (tuned GCGCF) basses (strung with DR Black Beauty strings), which he runs through Ampeg amps.
Ryan Martinie has won several state high school awards for classical vocals. He also has a long history with jazz bass, trumpet playing, vocals and sword swallowing.
