This page helps responsible users prevent and respond to vandalism. List new vandals by IP or username. Please add new alerts at the top of the "Current alerts" list.

Two levels of urgency

If you want to alert everyone, leave the Misplaced Pages:Minor edit option unchecked. Be careful: this is the default. If the listing doesn't require an immediate response, please be sure to check the "minor edit" option.

Format

Use the format under the Current Alerts heading: IP address, pages touched, damage done. For a comprehensive guide for dealing with different types of vandalism, see Dealing with vandalism.

Blocks and other tools

For a list of blocked IPs and usernames and the reason why they were blocked, see Special:Ipblocklist. Tools for finding information on an IP number:

Adding someone to this page

When you notice what you think is an act of vandalism, note the vandal's IP number or handle. Edit this page, adding the person's IP number, and sign your edit with four tildes (~~~~) to give the date and time.

Then put the person's IP or handle in the Summary field and hit save.

Vandalism appears on Recent Changes, along with the id of the alleged vandal, and other wikipedians can decide whether damage has actually occurred. If there is consensus that an attack was correctly identified, everyone will help repair the damage. When the attack is finished, come back and remove the information you added.

If no attack occurred (e.g. it was just a difference of opinion about what is appropriate content or style, not intentional defacement), then the line will be removed from the vandalism in progress page. We hope cases of mistaken listing will be rare.

Please only use this page for genuine malicious vandalism, and only for a sustained attack. If you make any changes to this page for other reasons, put something like "Not calling a vandalism alert" in the summary box, or mark it as a minor edit.

Cautions and alternatives

However, please do not label isolated instances of text deletions, replacements or odd additions as VANDALISM unless they seem intentionally overly lewd or offensive. More often than not, this is just a visitor to the site experimenting (also see newbie test) -- labeling them as a VANDAL is a good way to ensure they don't become contributors. Only add alerts to this page of true VANDALISM such as a systematic attack on several articles. If you suspect an edit may be vandalism but are unsure, don't hesitate to list the edit on Misplaced Pages:RC patrol where it can be scrutinised by other editors. Above all, please be polite at first and give the person the benefit of the doubt until they prove they deserve otherwise.

If you need help or think someone else does, please leave a note at Misplaced Pages:clueless newbies.

Note that deliberate vandalism of this page is likely to lead to you being blocked from editing Misplaced Pages.

If you disagree with someone's edits, see the following pages instead:

Please add new alerts at the top of the "Current alerts" list.
When reporting anonymous vandals, please copy and use the template which is commented out at the beginning of the next section.

I should, perhaps, make it clear I do not have the intention of looking at the 2 IP addresses I haven't annotated - I probably gave the impression I was going through them systematically. Erm. I'm not. It's annoying. I mean, I noticed that other people had been reverting those I did look at, so I'm sure I'm being overly anxious. Which reminds me, I haven't had my tablets. --bodnotbod 00:48, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)
(There seems little doubt these IPs are all one and the same person: see Michelle Branch: history for instance).
I'm not knowledgeable about these things - but having looked extensively at the edits made by the two IPs I've annotated I wondered if it was two students sitting next to each other in the same library: one of them a fairly nice chap and the other intent on being mischievous. Cos there's a definite difference in behaviour depending on the Ip you look at. --bodnotbod 17:20, Jun 10, 2004 (UTC)

Making extensive changes to YYYY in music, YYYY in sports, YYYY in film (where YYYY is a year). Changing lots of dates, for instance in 1984 in music and Michelle Branch, he insists on repeatedly changing her birth year from 1983 to 1984, although, for instance her official autobiography and many other sources say 1983.

Also insists on creating pages with lowercase last names, like Summer altice, which others then have to move to the uppercase version.

There are far too many changes for me to research, and this is not my area of interest anyway. I don't know if he is mixing legitimate changes with vandalism, or is just seriously misguided, or what.

This user was reported before, below, by User:Seth Ilys.

128-bit era (multiple IPs)

MULTIPLE IPS -- For this listing it is easier not to list the IPs, but list the problem instead. There are multiple IPs using 128-bit era as a chat room. I keep trying to revert to a good copy of the article but keep getting edit conflicts. They are reposting over each other so fast I can't even revert. I'll check this article later to see if it is possible to revert. Just wanted to let others know so they can look into it also. Thank you. SWAdair | Talk 08:21, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)
    • Ah, It looks like Hadal has been able to get in two good reverts, but they keep posting. SWAdair | Talk 08:25, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I've blocked all but one IP involved (total of three IPs blocked). I would have protected, but the last time I did that without warning the users (in that case, there were five IPs doing it) I was chided in an edit summary. Heh. If it hasn't cooled down already (or if the users return), I'll protect the article. -- Hadal 08:29, 10 Jun 2004 (UTC)

This user has been repeatedly adding an off-topic paragraph to Anti-American sentiment, and before that was making other contested edits as well. I would ordinarily consider this to be a dispute over content, but he's taken to "disguising" his edits with misleading edit summaries or by immediately making "legitimate" edits afterward to make reversion more difficult. Also changes IPs after every edit and won't respond on the article's talk page. Seems to have an anti-Canadian and anti-immigration agenda. Bryan 01:13, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Officially, I still think it's a policy. But quickpolls just seem really unpopular now. 172 04:21, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)
It appears that User:219.88.160.45 is the same user as this - tried to claim that this user was Wik, and impersonated RickK to do it. I'd really like a dev to check this IP and 63.230.159.235 against the IPs recently used by Plato. Snowspinner 05:42, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)
This user is potentially a sockpuppet of User:Plato. Shortly after Plato/Comrade Nick declared in IRC that he was setting the Red Faction against my nomination for admin status, this vote came in, and he noted that one of his "comrades" had voted against me. Someone with the ability to might want to check if Plato/Comrade Nick's edits come from the same IP. Snowspinner 04:33, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)
Could this be the person that was doing the "I'M SNOWSPINNER.I AM GAY" vandalism? Guanaco 04:47, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Tough to tell. Can we get a dev to look into whether Plato has logged in from this IP today? Once we know that, it might be worth checking if Plato's logged in from any of the IPs that did that vandalism earlier. Snowspinner 04:55, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)
deleting impersonator's false accusations RickK 05:49, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)
If it's Wik, then it's extremely likely that Plato/ComradeNick is a Wik sockpuppet, as argued above. The IP in question has also been putting up edits on Plato's Red Faction page, and has generally been used as an IP for the past two days for RF "business". Snowspinner 05:04, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)

This is not vandalism. It was decided that there should be no inter-wiki links to controversial languages that have not (yet) shown to have a large enough active user-base to keep a Misplaced Pages project going. This currently includes Toki Pona and Klingon. See m:Artificial languages for more infomation on this topic. -- BCorr|Брайен 00:18, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Policy changes need to be made public so this sort of thing doesn't happen. I checked en and meta before posting here; neither of them had anything to say on the subject. --Eequor 01:21, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
There is no such policy that languages Timwi doesn't like are not allowed interlanguage links! There was a compromise when Klingon was set up that no links would be made to it. This does not apply to toki pona. Having said that, it's probably not something which should be on this page. WP:RFC would be more appropriate. Angela. 11:27, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

User:172.145.2.41 and WikiMD.org

User:172.145.2.41 | talk | contribs

User:172.145.2.41 has added to various medical-related Wikipages an external link to WikiMD.org, A new wiki project for building an open source Medical Encyclopedia. Is this ad-placement considered "vandalism" ? Some of these changes have already been reverted by User:Wyllium, who labelled the changes "minor" and "rv spamlink". PFHLai 00:13, 30 May 2004 (UTC)

It's linkspam. He didn't even link pages with the same subject together, he just linked to the main page of that Wiki all the time (same cut/paste on every article). Plus, he was anonymous, and the only edits he made were the addition of those links to a lot of articles. Wyllium 02:51, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
The Main Page of WikiMD.org looks like our Main_Page (I mean, yesterday's). Would the links be okay if the two organizations are related ? Still advertisements, or not ? -- PFHLai 03:23, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
That Wiki comprises the entire medical field, does that mean we should add that link to every single medical article? Wyllium 03:37, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
IMO, if a Wikipedian is writing a medical-related article in Misplaced Pages.org and finds a more detailed page at WikiMD.org a good reference, then an external link there would be fine. The links placed by User:172.145.2.41 earlier today looks more like advertisements, which should not be allowed. But, are the two organizations related ? If so, should these links be tolerated ? -- PFHLai 03:59, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
The hell with linking - it's released under the GFDL. If a Wikipedian is writing a medical-related article here and finds a more detailed page at WikiMD.org that's a good reference, they should copy the content and take it over here. Snowspinner 19:33, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
Probably unrelated. Similar look just means that they use the same MediaWiki software as Misplaced Pages (yesterday's version). Andris 04:39, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
They're not related, they just use the same software. Wyllium 05:23, 30 May 2004 (UTC)

Moved to Misplaced Pages:Vandalism in progress/Wik.

Wow, Wik is so active that he gets his own page? No comment. Rickyrab 19:23, 28 May 2004 (UTC)

Maybe I missed something, but he/she always looked like a normal person. Why the sudden outburst of vandalism? Wyllium 22:54, 29 May 2004 (UTC)

See User talk:UninvitedCompany#Special characters for what Wik has to say about it - the bottom line is that s/me wants Quagga banned and is threatening to attack Misplaced Pages repeatedly until that happens. It won't, of course, as that would amount to giving in to blackmail. -- ChrisO 08:16, 30 May 2004 (UTC)

    • Energybone's vandalism is getting out of hand. He is blanking articles and replacing them with nonsense such as at September 11, 2001 attacks where he removed the text and replaced it with a claim that it was an insurance fraud by the owners of the twin towers. I warned him that he will be blocked if he continues his vandalism of articles. - Tεxτurε 17:13, 27 May 2004 (UTC)

AnonymousPerson

  • User:AnonymousPerson has displayed his password on his page, saying "Password is 'anon', have fun". Which perhaps is an invitation for vandalism. He edited the Zoroastrianism page with a sparse entry that removes a lot of the useful info that was there before. Check this -- KB 16:59, 2004 May 25 (UTC)
  • This is pretty interesting though - is there any guideline on whether a password should be kept secret? What about role accounts? Why is it more harmful to have anonymous named accounts than ips? Mark Richards 23:06, 25 May 2004 (UTC)
  • This is no different than any other security hole announced by a hacker. Close the hole or you will not be able to respond with certainty to any attack. - Tεxτurε 23:12, 25 May 2004 (UTC)
    • Why? There isn't much that a user with an account can do that an anon IP can't, I don't see the vulnerability. Block the IP range if there is vandalism from the account. Mark Richards 23:56, 25 May 2004 (UTC)
  • My concern here is that this user follows a very subtle form of Vandalism. He made the article on Zoroasteriansim much shorter with fewer info than it had. Is this deliberate? Is this a new trend? He only did that to that page. So he could only be a new user who does not know the rules. Yet again, why publish the password with "have fun!" as a comment? Giving the password to anyone invites others to misuses it in your name. Why? -- KB 15:21, 2004 May 26 (UTC)

Same user shows up off and on adding fiction to articles (or adding new fictional articles) pertaining to a number of subjects: The Simpsons, Sailor Moon, SpongeBob SquarePants and others. List of characters from The Simpsons seems to be a personal favorite to vandalize of this user; he/she adds fictional fictional characters to the list that look legitimate but aren't. Has been warned many, many times.

Shawn Mikula once again, this time contenting himself to edit Misplaced Pages:Bad jokes and other deleted nonsense/The Shawn Mikula Files with headers accusing the page of being defamation of character/slander/libel. These headers are more suited to the talk page, as has been explained to him. Shockingly, this has not stopped him from continually re-updating it, in excess of the three revert rule. Snowspinner 15:25, 25 May 2004 (UTC)

User vandalized Philadelphia, Pennsylvania deleting names under Famous Philadelphians and leaving a comment of Garbage. Misterrick 16:19, 13 May 2004 (UTC)
More Vandalism by 67.15.42.16. This time they re-reverted the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania wikipage and in their comments under 'Page History' they became verbally abusive including using foul language. Can someone please put a temporary ban on this ip address. Misterrick 16:41, 13 May 2004 (UTC)
On 16 May 2004 at 20:15 this person completely erased Oscar Goodman and replaced it with a notice that states "(Misplaced Pages does not have an article on this topic yet. To start the article, click Edit this page.)" Further they state in their Edit summary that it was an Administrative edit, This person is obviously not a Wiki admin but nothing more then a vandal. Based on their record of vandalism can I suggest that disciplinary action be taken in the form of a permanent ban. Misterrick 21:28, 16 May 2004 (UTC)

Vandalized Oscar Goodman again, This time replacing the text with a picture of a Penis with the words "this is what I think of all of you wikipedia users.". Under Oscar Goodman see Page history, 01:04, 21 May 2004 for an example of this vandal's work. Misterrick 06:27, 21 May 2004 (UTC)

It would seem that User:67.15.42.16 has moved to a different ISP and is now vandalizing under the guise of User:17.255.240.174, As was previously indicated they again removed all of the text in Oscar Goodman and replaced it with a picture of a Penis and the same text as before. I think a special Misplaced Pages page needs to be established to list this person's vandalisms and suggestions from the Misplaced Pages community on what exactly should be done. Is using the above IP's as sockpuppets for casting additional votes in MediaWiki talk:VfD-Shawn Mikula as well as using IP's 128.220.29.140, 70.16.2.172, 66.162.147.1, possibly 218.145.25.80, possibly 193.255.207.252, 62.168.43.84, 200.73.172.196, 68.162.212.205, 80.58.33.172, 208.183.105.4; and usernames Mikula, Janus san, Kanjiish, Shawn314, and Rajesh918. All of the preceeding have edit histories that reflect their status as an obvious sockpuppet, additional edits beyond the Mikula issue are (with few exceptions) vandalism. In addition all of the above approach the debate with a single mind, revising comments made by another, following one line of debate with serveral IP's, etc. When (if) the Mikula vanity page is deleted I would not be surprised if it appears again quickly authored by one of those IP's. User does not care about the vfd process, only wants to preserve his vanity. --Starx 16:07, 18 May 2004 (UTC)

Sometimes I have one of these IPs, though I've never vandalized a page (logged in or otherwise) nor made any spurious VfD votes. I think that has to do with the Marketscore proxy server; I have one of the offending IP addresses this very minute (at least occuring to Misplaced Pages when I tried to post to User_talk:Furrykef) while using MSIE, but I switched from MSIE to Mozilla FireFox and can post, as I'm doing now. I've been trying to get rid of this Marketscore thing for ages but so far nothing has worked...I've done the uninstall thing many times, I've done AdAware, I've changed MSIE's proxy settings, and I've even tried registry hacking to no avail. --Furrykef 04:31, 22 May 2004 (UTC)

Notice of forthcoming vandalism

I know it's a little unusual to address vandalism before it happens, but bear with me. ;-)

The following articles are likely to be vandalised tonight and subsequent nights between approximately 2200-0200 UTC:

(Added Culture of Georgia -- ChrisO 22:11, 13 May 2004 (UTC) )

The vandalism will occur from anonymous proxies at 213.157.209.*, 213.157.202.* and 213.157.194.*. This is the former User:Levzur (contribs / talk), who has resigned his account ahead of an Arbitration Committee decision and embarked on a series of daily reversion wars. His motives are unclear, but appear to be a combination of imposing nationalist POVs and preventing anyone else from editing the articles. Users and sysops are requested to watch the pages in question and take action as necessary. Blocking individual IP addresses will be ineffective, as he is using multiple proxies across his ISP's three /24s. -- ChrisO 19:16, 12 May 2004 (UTC)

  • Indeed, this happened. And beyond that, it went for hours before anyone got to it. Which is just depressing. I mean, come on. We had prior warning that this was going to happen, and we... didn't fix it. Yay. Can the AC at least get together and rehear this? Please? Snowspinner 02:20, 13 May 2004 (UTC)
    • I see that RickK has blocked 213.157.209.0/24 until 20 May to choke off the vandalism from that /24 at least. Levzur will probably return tonight from one of his ISP's other /24s. But I agree, the AC really needs to get on with this - it's been going on for far too long and it isn't exactly a complex issue to deal with. If those /24s need to be blocked it's better for the AC to approve this in advance, rather than sysops having to impose blocks as they go along. -- ChrisO 07:33, 13 May 2004 (UTC)

Today's attack from Levzur is now underway. -- ChrisO 21:53, 13 May 2004 (UTC)

  • I'm disappointed to see that some admins have responded by protecting all of the articles on the list above. This is simply not a viable solution. Levzur has been at this in one form or another since December. He is simply trying to make us give up and go away. Zviad Gamsakhurdia, for instance, has already been protected at least six times over the past few months and Levzur has resumed attacking it within hours or days at the most after protection is lifted. Protection will achieve nothing except blocking anyone from editing the articles, which is apparently his aim - he does not debate or discuss his edits except to insist that he is right and everyone else is wrong (that is, when he bothers to explain his edits at all; he's not done this for some time). We can't leave articles protected indefinitely, which is what would be necessary if we were solely reliant on protection. In my view, blocking his IP addresses is the only solution to this persistent vandalism. -- ChrisO 22:03, 13 May 2004 (UTC)

Snowspinner 05:05, 17 May 2004 (UTC) Has been making troll/anti-Semitic edits to Whites, Heteronormativity, Jews, and Zionism. Has been abusive in his comments, suggesting a general vendetta aganst me. Violated three revert rule on Zionism with four attempts to add a link to Bias into the article. Snowspinner 06:49, 12 May 2004 (UTC)

  • He has also violated Misplaced Pages:No Personal Attacks - c.f. "I had also become accustomed to your ravings containing one to two lies per sentence." from further down in this discussion.
  • Has continued personal attacks into today - c.f. Talk:Caucasian race, specifically "you unfortunately being highly biased against White people and all" towards the bottom of the page.
I have not "continued" anything "into today." You being biased was highly relevant to the topic at hand. Also, you have admitted your bias against White people on several pages, so this is like a person saying to a child that he/she is a "young one." Specifically, you proved your bias against White people by saying that anti-White sentiment didn't exist whatsoever. Your trolling display is tiring, to say the least, Snowspinner. - 66.185.84.80
You are lying, mister.
1. I have not made any trolling or anti-semitic edits. I am trying to preserve objectivity and fairness, and you, with your clear bias for your people (as can be expected, but does not belong on Misplaced Pages), will not have any of that.
I'm sorry, who do you think my people are? Snowspinner 07:03, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
2. I do not have a vendetta against you, stop thinking so highly of yourself. I am watching the Recent Changes page and you happen to be involved in a lot of the POV edits while I have been on the last two hours or so.
"We are several people here who don't appreciate your bias. Stop attacking articles, Snowspinner." - You, editing Heteronormativity
3. Where do I flatly lie? You flatly lie yourself, even in this very complaint. For example, in addition to previously pointed out lies,
4. I have not said anywhere that Bias is references Zionism. I said that because you disallow that article to be NPOV, the article is relevant to Bias. Therefore I added the Bias link to the Relevant Articles section under the article itself.
I confess on this one. I misread one of your edit comments as saying that Bias links back into Zionism. My apologies. I retract that section of my complaint. Snowspinner 07:03, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
Thank you for playing, but truth is not so easily obscurated.
Indeed, one need only consult the edit history on the pages. Snowspinner 07:03, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
5. Also, you accused me of breaking the three-revert rule, when you have done the exact same thing. Consult the history pages. Luckily you are unable to fold your black wings of bias over them.
As I have said, my actions were not a violation of the three revert rule - I reverted two unrelated edits of yours - one three times, one two. That said, if you feel my actions are vandalism, you may feel free to list me on this page, and we'll see how it plays out. Snowspinner 07:23, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
Now you are blatantly lying again.
EVIDENCE OF LIE - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Zionism&action=history
  • 06:16, 12 May 2004 . . Snowspinner (Well, if anti-white sentiment exists (As you claim it does), NPOV demands that an article on it exist as well. And if it's relevent to a topic, as anti-semitism is to this, sense demands linking.)
  • 06:09, 12 May 2004 . . Snowspinner (Because no article on anti-white sentiment, europhobia, or anything else exists that I can find, I imagine.)
  • 06:03, 12 May 2004 . . Snowspinner (Considering the usage of "Zionism" by anti-Semitic groups, I think a link to the article on anti-Semitism is reasonable. The articles are on related subjects - this is enough to justify a see also.)
These three reverts are in sequence, and about the same thing, namely whether Zionism should contain links to Anti-Semitism when White nationalism does not have any such sympathetic links. So, I have uncovered yet another lie by you.
- 66.185.84.80
Which would be relevent, if it weren't for the fact that the rule is against more than three reversions. Regardless, my revert history is immaterial here - if you want to accuse me of vandalism, do so. But whether or not I have broken rules does not affect whether you have. Snowspinner 07:38, 12 May 2004 (UTC)
I am sorry, that was a mistake of mine then. Entirely mine, indeed, and I read your post all too quickly. See? I can admit to my mistakes. Can you?
Again, excuse my false accusation. I am new to Misplaced Pages and its rules, and I had also become accustomed to your ravings containing one to two lies per sentence. - 66.185.84.80
Mr. 66.185.84.80, might I suggest that you explain your edits on the relevant talk pages rather than simply making them again and again when people revert them? I see a lot of edit warring on controversial pages going on, but virtually nothing posted to any Talk pages by you. Just a thought - might make people less quick to shout "vandal". --Stormie 07:04, May 12, 2004 (UTC)

Won't take no for an answer on zionism no matter what reality says. His motives are rather suspicious and he is clearly trolling the page. GrazingshipIV 06:59, May 12, 2004 (UTC)

Exactly which reality says that the zionism article is not related to bias? Your personal reality of emotionally motivated opinions? If anybody's motives are suspicious it is the people who blatantly refuse to have the same standards of objectivity in politically correct and politically incorrect articlees just because they feel like it. Also, you just violated the personal attacks rule Snowspinner is on about. - 66.185.84.80
I fail to see any personal attack in GrazingshipIV's post there - he said you were trolling. This is a judgment of action, not of character. By the same token, am I violating personal attacks by listing you as vandalizing pages? Snowspinner 21:46, 12 May 2004 (UTC)

Wasn't Paul Vogel banned from posting to Misplaced Pages? Why, then, is this address still posting here? RickK 14:07, 13 May 2004 (UTC)

I am not Paul Vogel, I don't even know who he is. Before a week ago, I rarely ever visited Misplaced Pages beyond random reads on topics of interest during surfing. I think it shows bad judgement of Bcorr to ban me for unfounded suspicions of being another user, and right as I was in the middle of a debate too. I demand an apology, and I'd like to warn you all against the injustice of spreading malicious rumours that aren't even founded. - 66.185.84.80
This is clearly Paul Vogel using a new tactic to make the same changes to the same pages with the same extremist comments. The chances of two people using the same IP with the same exact views on the same articles is improbable. The only other possibility is that Paul has put someone on his own account to harrass as his proxy. Either way I see this as an attempt to circumvent the ban and continue his crusade. This IP needs to be blocked for attempting to get around the ban. - Tεxτurε 18:50, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
No, nothing is clear here, and I still don't know - much less *is* - Paul Vogel. Tell me exactly what has transcribed, beyond downright 1984 censorship. Where did he do edits with my IP? My contributions page shows only my work this latest week. Before that (its an old IP) some assorted people with the same IP has edited at various times in various topics of no interest to me. - 66.185.84.80
Also, what "extremist" comments would that be? The kind that doesn't exist, but looks nice on a complaint? I dare you to show us these "extremist comments," liar. If you think it is extremist to make note that racism is also commited against Whites, then I am afraid that you are biased against Whites and give different treatment based on race - a racist in other words. - 66.185.84.80
Although I think this user should be banned, I am not sure why we think it's PV. Vogel has never used IPs beginning in 66.185 so far as I can tell from User:Paul Vogel. Indeed, he appears to be in New York, not in Canada. Where am I missing evidence that Vogel ever used this IP or ISP? Snowspinner 20:11, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
Ah, the heck with it, he's now lying and saying I've admitted to bias against whites, and I don't care anymore. If you want to make him go away because he's Vogel, be my guest. If you want to do so because he engages in personal attacks, all the better. Either way, one less user contribution list I have to regularly check to see what needs reverted. • 21 so far.. can someone block this idiot? --Stormie 06:26, May 11, 2004 (UTC)
      • I do not think ViP is the appropriate place for this - it's very likely that this is a naive new user. Until some more good faith efforts are made to contact the user, they should get the benefit of the doubt. Which does not mean that these articles shouldn't be listed for deletion - they should, and they should be listed en masse. But I'm not willing to call it vandalism yet - it could be naivete. Snowspinner 06:29, 11 May 2004 (UTC)
        • Hmm, I think it is extremely unlikely that this is anything other than wilful vandalism OK, watching his further efforts, I am now willing to concede that this user may be naive (or insane), rather than an active vandal, but what "good faith" efforts can you make with an anonymous user who shows up and creates dozens of nonsense articles? You posted something on his talk page (far more politely than I would have I must say!), he has ignored it - I say block him and see if that makes him slow down and read your message. --Stormie 06:35, May 11, 2004 (UTC)

These IPs have been apparently used by the same person to make similar "corrections" into several pages related to Caucasian languages, e.g. Laz language, Svan language, Megrelian language, South Caucasian languages, Iberian-Caucasian languages, and Caucasian. According to all the sources I have seen the "corrections" are incorrect and misleading, apparently attempts to present a distorted view of the linguistic situation of the Caucasus for political purposes. This person also insist on adding (suspect) ethnic classification comments to articles that are strictly about language.
Unfortunately the person refuses to cite his sources or provide any comment or justification whatsoever.
It is very likely that the person is this user who withdrew from Misplaced Pages a few days ago after having become the subject of several complaints.

Update: User is back at work in the past few days. Still reverting existant pages to junk pages on Xena characters. Snowspinner 03:40, 6 May 2004 (UTC)

Long history of junk updates about characters who may be minor characters on Xena. Seems to overwrite legitimate mythological entries with them. Possible that updates are not even characters in Xena, but characters from an online RPG - see Template:VfD-Saraphine for discussion and evidence of this. Snowspinner 23:01, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

  • I agree...the user has even been contacted numerous times on his talk page, but has persisted without responding or adapting. Postdlf 3:26 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • Not just mythological entries. See the history of Shasta. RickK 03:36, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • I'll see if I can make an afternoon of reverting any entries by this user to older forms then. /sigh. And I'd so much rather be talking about Kant or videogames, too. Snowspinner 05:56, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
  • I've looked into this a bit further, and after a random sampling, I am reasonably convinced that few of the characters user has added are actually characters in Xena - I feel that all articles contributed by user ought be deleted. Snowspinner 16:02, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • I agree with Snowspinner, except that care must be taken in deleting, to ensure that overwritten valid content is restored. Recent examples, where I restored the former contents, are Beth and Misery. In both cases I left in the Xena content but without trying to verify that the characters are "real" as opposed to coming from a Xena-themed RPG or fanfic. Deleting them all seems reasonable even if a few babies get tossed out with the bathwater. JamesMLane 06:53, 1 May 2004 (UTC)
