The word “fag” has several meanings:

  • A fag (fag-end) is the (usually worthless) remnant of something; also a cigarette butt.
  • A fag (personal servant) was a junior boy who acted as servant to a senior boy at a British independent school. “Fag” came to mean a tedious or labour-intensive chore, and “fagged out” to mean exhausted by hard work.
  • Cigarette, the slang term “fag” is a British English colloquialism.
  • “Fag” or “faggot” is a pejorative word for a homosexual man in American English slang and has spread to some other English-speaking countries. See also “queer.” In American English, typically the northeastern U.S., the act of “faggin’ out” or “being a fag” is also to withdraw, or become non-participatory. Referring to one who is not taking the most masculine route in a given situation, someone who is opting out of physical labor, a common task, or participation in a group activity involving any number of individuals in a social setting.
  • Fagged (video gaming), a play on “fag” and frag with a meaning similar to pwn.
  • FAG Kugelfischer is a German company manufacturing ball bearings.
