The Intercity Express is the Express train service in India which connect and run only between important railway junctions or state capitals.
General Features
The trains are comparatively cheaper as compared to other express trains and reach to the destination within 5–6 hours only usually. They run on daily basis. Generally they complete the round trip in the day i.e. return back to the origin station at night and use only a single rake. They generally have only sitting accommodation and a pantry car.
Exceptions
- Indore - Jabalpur Intercity Express which runs only 3 days a week.
- Bhopal - Gwalior Intercity Express which runs only 5 days a week.
- Indore - Hazrat Nizamuddin Intercity Express which takes 11 hours to cover the 550 kilometres (340 mi) strech between the 2 cities. This train uses 2 rakes between the stations and also has Chair Car, Unreserved, Sleeper Class, Pantry Car, 1A, 2A and 3A coach.
