The Winx Club article has been replaced by animaniacs can someone fix this?
When you search for the Winx club cartoon on Misplaced Pages it shows animaniacs instead. I think this is a bug. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.231.243.204 (talk) 00:28, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Done Looks like this edit made the replacement. It's been fixed now. --McDoobAU93 00:36, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) This was vandalism where someone replaced the content of Winx Club with Animaniacs. I restored it to the last proper version. --— Gadget850 (Ed) 00:38, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Natalie Dee deserves her own page
Currently, your entry for "Natalie Dee" redirects to "Married to the Sea." This is clearly an error, or possibly an act of vandalism, as Natalie Dee has been creating webcomics long before Married to the Sea existed, independently of Drew Toothpaste, etc. Please see The Rumpus' interview for proof, and additional factoids: http://therumpus.net/2013/01/the-rumpus-interview-with-natalie-dee/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.61.74.189 (talk • contribs)

Wiki University
While reading a bit on John Maynard Keynes and his economic theories, I had a thought.
What about a a Wiki University. No buildings, No proffs, or football teams, no tuition increases (just a small membership and a Diploma donation) Designed by a slew of half your writers and reviewed by a slew of the other half of your other writers. (See The Great Lectures CD series.)
Publish a curriculum (comprised of a list of links to Misplaced Pages articles) for the four years of a typical college. Some promotion to get the ball started and some testimonials of acceptance by some community "name" luminaries. Good Luck with this, if you want to try it.
No payment or rights to be retained by me, who's name you don't even know anyway.

Anthony hickox
Hey guys,
im a big fan. but someone keeps mucking about with my page...adding idiotic vandalism like my last film was 'Viagra' (ha,ha!). And other nonsense. But the mist annoying thing is they keep changing my bday. Im not an actor so i really dont care. But its kind of annoying because im aries not aquarious!) Just so you know...my actual birthday is APRIL 30 1964. Happy to send a photo of my passport.
Some one already corrected the film name. Im going to put the right birthday today (the day after you have my fake bday!)...can you please try and catch anyone who trys to change it after today because it wont be me!
Thanks, 76.208.128.174 (talk) 06:27, 1 February 2013 (UTC) Anthony Hickox
- I have removed the birthday from Anthony Hickox because it is unreferenced. Unfortunately the whole page is unreferenced - which means that strictly the page does not establish that AH is notable and it is liable to deletion. If you are AH, please read WP:COI: the way you can best improve the page would be to provide reliable sources, independent of you for the information on the page, and put them on its talk page, where uninvolved editors can add them to the page. --ColinFine (talk) 08:47, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- I could not confirm either "April 30" or "1964" from a Misplaced Pages Reliable Source. The next time you are interviewed, mention that you were born on April 30, 1964. If your birthdate is published in a Misplaced Pages Reliable Source, we can then add it to the article. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 11:16, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
I need help with a complicated book citation
I'm having a hard time getting a complicated instance of {{cite book}} correct. I'm trying to cite one chapter in a book. The chapter has one author while the book has three editors. I'm citing an online version of the book, this is the chapter - http://ebooks.cambridge.org/chapter.jsf?bid=CBO9780511730030&cid=CBO9780511730030A027&tabName=Chapter Roger (talk) 07:52, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- My suggestion would be to add a parameter such as |chapter_author = to {{Cite book}}, if this chapter is not a standalone work. Is this chapter a standalone work? If yes, then it should probably be cited using {{Citation}} and specifying the book using the work parameter. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:06, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Use the editor (for book's editors) and author (for the chapter's authors) field (IIRC, this is how the "author" parameter should be used in this instance). An example of how this renders (with one editor) can be found at History of deaf education in the United States#cite note-crouch25-2. - Purplewowies (talk) 09:39, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I hope this is correct - {{cite book |last=Stough |first=Laura M. |editor1-first=Yuval |editor1-last=Neria |editor2-first=Sandro |editor2-last=Galea |editor3-first=Fran H. |editor3-last=Norris |title=Mental Health and Disasters |publisher=Cambridge University Press |date=2009 |pages=264–276 |chapter=Chapter 15: The Effects of Disaster on the Mental Health of Individuals with Disabilities |doi=10.1017/CBO9780511730030.015 |isbn=9780511730030 }}

Dana Perino
Error on her page. Colorado State University is in Fort Collins, Colorado. The article erroneously lists it in Pueblo.
Margaret — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.182.33.174 (talk) 08:03, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- It seems to be more complex than that, and from what I can figure out, our article is correct. We have an article on Colorado State University, which is indeed in Fort Collins - but we also have an article on Colorado State University–Pueblo, which, as it's name suggests, is in Pueblo. Our article says that Perino graduated from the latter in 1994. To confuse matters further, at the time Perino graduated, the Pueblo institution was known as University of Southern Colorado - changing to its current name in 2003. AndyTheGrump (talk) 08:21, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- In that case the biography should list it by the historically correct name University of Southern Colorado and let the redirect take care of delivering the correct article to the reader. Roger (talk) 08:35, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
WikiMania travel scholarship blurb
When I first saw the big "Apply for a Wikimania 2013 travel scholarship! / Deadline is February 22 / Help with translations!" banner I thought the lack of a visible and clickable function was a temporary glitch which would soon be corrected but it's still there. I don't want to see that thing on every page I open for the next three weeks. Can it be fixed? (If this was the wrong place to ask, directions to a right one would also be helpful.) – Athaenara ✉ 09:25, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- You could add
#centralNotice {display:none !important;}
to User:Athaenara/vector.css. At least that's what I am using to hide all this banner stuff. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:45, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Strangely enough I am not seeing any banners even if I am logged out. It might be because I am using AdBlock. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:51, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Strange. I opened Misplaced Pages in Firefox (where I guess AdBlock doesn't do anything) and I don't see any banners there as well. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:54, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure if this will help, but you might try selecting "Suppress display of the fundraiser banner" in your Preferences>Gadgets>Browsing features. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 11:07, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Toshio, thank you - it was generous of you to triple-check the problem I was having!
- Uzma, thank you - a few minutes ago, I selected the change you suggested in preferences and bingo! No more blurb! – Athaenara ✉ 04:46, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Editing & updating information for all Emaar assets on Misplaced Pages
Hi, I am the Digital Marketing Officer at Emaar Hospitality Group LLC, the wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai-based global property developer Emaar Properties PJSC. Emaar Hospitality Group manages the company’s growing roster of hospitality and leisure projects including The Address Hotels + Resorts, Armani Hotels & Resorts and several other leisure clubs in Dubai.
I have created an account on Misplaced Pages to update the information on Misplaced Pages for all our hotels and other key assets. However, I would really appreciate if you could put me onto someone who could guide me as to how I can go about changing the information and adding the official images and video for our hotel.
Kind Regards Priya Ragoowansi The Address Hotels + Resorts (talk) 10:11, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Priya. A main problem with Emaar Properties article is that it appears to have been developed as you suggested, which has lead to the article having multiple issues. The purpose of Misplaced Pages articles are not to convey information about the article topic. If that were the case, then an editor would only need to go to the Emaar Properties website and summarize what they post about themselves. Even better, someone connected to Emaar Properties could write the article because they have good knowledge of Emaar Properties through their connection. That generally is how the rest of the Internet operates and if Misplaced Pages did the same thing, then Misplaced Pages would be no different from the rest of the Internet. Misplaced Pages is different from the rest of the Internet. Instead of using information that was published by those connected to the topic (e.g., those connected to Emaar Properties), Misplaced Pages prefers using information that was published by those not connected to the topic (e.g., those not connected to Emaar Properties). More important, Misplaced Pages prefers that editors do not have a conflict of interest with the topic. In your case, you are the Digital Marketing Officer at Emaar Hospitality Group and have a Misplaced Pages:Conflict of interest with the Emaar Hospitality Group/Emaar Properties topic. You are also looking to "update the information on Misplaced Pages for all our hotels and other key assets," something which is secondary to Misplaced Pages's goal of publishing a thorough and representative survey of coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. In other words, Misplaced Pages is interested in presenting what those not connected to a topic are writing about a topic. In short, your request above essentially is opposite of what Misplaced Pages is about. WP:COI explains how you can go about contributing to Emaar Properties topics (basically post requests on the article talk page to change the article). As for adding the official images and video for your hotel, you can upload those to http://commons.wikimedia.org with proper licensing and sourcing information and those files then can be added to Misplaced Pages articles. commons.wikimedia.org already has a few Emaar Properties images, and anything you can add to those would be most welcome. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 11:02, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Qanat#Azerbaijan
Good afternoon,
I am writing to you on behalf of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Azerbaijan. IOM Azerbaijan has inserted information about kahrizes (aka qanats) in the country under the topic Qanat at Misplaced Pages on 15 December 2012. When i checked to page on 1 February 2013, Friday (today) I noticed that significant changes had been made i.e. deletion of several sub-chapters, pictures, etc. I would like to know whether I can learn who deleted these as well as how can we secure that the useful information we have included earlier (which we have to reinstate once again) which is highly praised by the Government of Azerbaijan, host country of our Mission, can be protected from deletion by others. I would highly appeciate if you could kindly respond directly to my e-mail address: saktoprak@iom.int. thank you for your kind attention in advance and best regards, Serhan Aktoprak, Officer in Charge, IOM Azerbaijan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.184.238.203 (talk) 14:16, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- I recommend you place a message on the talk page associated with Qanat, Talk:Qanat, to discuss this. Please discuss this at talk before restoring the information. You can see what edits were made by whom by clicking the "view history" tab at the top of the article. Looking at the history will enable you to leave a message on the user talk page for the editor(s) who made the change if you wish to talk to them directly. RJFJR (talk) 14:22, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hello, Serhan. I fear you misunderstand what Misplaced Pages is. Misplaced Pages records what reliable sources, independent of a subject have said about the subject, not what people or organisations want to say about themselves. Your organisation has no control over what goes into an article about it: see WP:OWN. You may, and are encouraged to, make a case on the article's talk page, for material which you wish to see included or removed, but you should not normally edit the article yourself, as you have a conflict of interest. In particular, material which is unreferenced, or referenced only from your own publications, should never normally appear in the article. --ColinFine (talk) 15:25, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Image file moved on commons, no longer displays on enwiki
As of earlier today, enwiki articles that attempt to use File:Army flag.gif get just that link instead of the image. This is apparently because the file was moved on Commons to the more descriptive File:Flag of the United States Army (1775).gif. There appears to be a redirect page on Commons, which works when you click on links over there, but it isn't working on enwiki. Does something need to be done? —— 14:30, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- It appears the image was deleted on the English WP system and that doesn't have a redirect. RJFJR (talk) 15:05, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- I suggest you ask at WP:BOTREQ whether someone can fix it. I am sure it can easily be fixed via a bot or some other tool such as AWB. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 15:10, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- There are 604 pages that link to it. It seems unreasonable to have to edit all those articles, bot or not. How is an image move supposed to work? —— 15:22, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- The admin (User talk:Zscout370) who deleted the file says that he believes most uses are via a template that has been updated. It may take a while for the template change to occur on all the uses (I think it depends on the jobqueue.) Once that template change propagates there may be a much smaller number to be edited manually. RJFJR (talk) 15:57, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- File moving is apparently broken at Commons today. It doesn't work to display the old title if the file was moved recently. It works if it was moved longer ago. Discussed at Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical)#File redirects broken. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:00, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- ImageRemovalBot has removed links from the articles instead of moving them to the new name (examples here and here). Fortunately, it seems (from the contrib list) that there were only 23 moves. Other pages were not touched (like United States Armed Forces and Douglas MacArthur. The admin's second-hand response above is confusing. Is there really no support for moving a file at Commons without breaking (and having to manually/bot fix) all the articles that link to it? How is this supposed to work, normally? —— 22:49, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- A file move leaves behind a redirect. It's supposed to not matter whether you use the old or new title. Below is a correctly working example with a Commons file that was moved 21 January before the problem began. commons:File:P Album 15 2.jpg was moved to commons:File:Anna Goldsteiner - österreichische Widerstandskämpferin, 1944.jpg.

Warren Kinsella
Warren Kinsella (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
I am Warren. I left a message on the talk page for the entry created about me, but it was deleted - presumably by the person doing the vandalism, Mark Bourrie.
I advised Misplaced Pages that the entry has been improperly changed in three ways.
1. The entry now reads: 'In December 2006, he revealed on his National Post blog that his firm had been actively supporting the candidacy of new Liberal leader Stéphane Dion. Previously, he supported potential leadership candidate Allan Rock." These two leadership races were many years apart. The change suggests they were simultaneous.
2. The entry now also reads: "In January 2009, Kinsella was revealed as the head of the Liberal Party's election war room but was fired before the election after Kinsella accused an Ottawa restaurant of selling cat meat. Kinsella posted an online video apology to Chinese-Canadians. " I was not fired from this volunteer position. I resigned, as this Globe article states: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/olo-bloodletting-prompts-warren-kinsella-to-ditch-war-room/article4353008/ I have successfully sued others for making this false "fired" allegation. I therefore require that it be deleted and the identifying information of the individual who posted this libel.
My expectation is that it is Mr. Bourrie, who you will see referred to many times on the entry's talk page. He has been banned in the past, but comes back with changed IP addresses.
The most prudent course is to delete the entry (I don't think I am significant enough to deserve one), or to return it to its previous state and then block it from further vandalism.
I do, however, require the information about who posted the libel. Please contact me at the address below to do so.
Sincerely,
Warren Kinsella, LL.B — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kinsellawarren (talk • contribs) 16:28, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

- Are you referring to the series of edits made by User:Spoonkymonkey here? The article has been protected since May 2011, and these edits seem to be the only significant edits made since then, this editor seems to have a stable history going back to 2008. I see no reason to see the edits being made in anything other than good faith WP:Assume good faith might be worth a read... Яehevkor ✉ 17:01, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
I had considered putting a vanity flag on this article and suggestion deleting the Lisa Kirbie article that links to it. Instead, I did some Google news research and found the material that I added to it. I will re-work the page if he has a problem with it. I think Mr. Kinsella does not understand that these pages are very easily fixed, and that lawsuit threats don't scare people here or win any friends. Spoonkymonkey (talk) 17:51, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Mr. Kinsella might also want to consider whether he is libeling Mr. Bourrie. I see both of them have engaged in a series of tiresome threats against each other over the years, a dispute that has no place on Misplaced Pages. I am sorry if Mr. Kinsella did, indeed, quit the Ignatieff campaign and I think we are all happy that Misplaced Pages is a medium in which errors or contentious material can be easily fixed. I was more than happy to do so. I do advise Mr. Kinsella to WP:Assume good faith and urge him to act with some maturity. I have gone over the page and have tweaked the content to satisfy Mr. Kinsella's objections. I also notice a considerable amount of unsourced material regarding Mr. Kinsella's band. I have removed some of it as being trivial and asked for a citation for some of the rest. I have also done more research on the cat meat incident and it appears that Kinsella's critics seized on something that was, rather stupidly for a so-called spin doctor, said in jest. I have added wording to try to capture that element of the controversy but since it was substantial and has considerable coverage, I think the cat meat incident should stay. I also looked at the "human shrapnel" quote and see it that came from a long-time Liberal, and the wording has been fixed accordingly. Since the "human shrapnel" quote was said well before the cat meat incident, it seems to have a prophetic value. I hope Mr. Kinsella is satisfied with the changes. He may well be right that he does not warrant a Misplaced Pages entry. I am sure his girlfriend does not. The Kinsella page, however, has been put up for delation several times and the overwhelming consensus has been to keep it and lock it against the type of vandalism that Mr. kinsella claims has happened. I have been on Misplaced Pages five years without a single block, and I can assure you that I edited the page in good faith. Spoonkymonkey (talk) 18:11, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
One last thing: Mr. Kinsella's talk page note is from IP 216.191.220.178. If this is a stable IP, then it's clear Mr. Kinsella is a frequent editor of his own Misplaced Pages page. This is a bit of a no-no: Special:Contributions/216.191.220.178 Spoonkymonkey (talk) 18:34, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Strategy for editing wikipedia pages for advocacy campaign
I was wondering if anyone knows of a guide or how-to that exists to show non-profit or advocacy groups how to effectively, strategically, and objectively edit wikipedia pages of members of Congress to show how they voted on a bill. What are things to avoid saying, what can you say that is the most condemning while still being polite and accurate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.110.246 (talk) 18:36, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- The polite answer is "please go away", but nonetheless, you might find some of what's in WP:PSCOI useful. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 18:48, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Attempting to edit Misplaced Pages pages to be "condemning" to certain people is against this website's most fundamental principles. I am highly disturbed that anyone would attempt to flamboyantly abuse this encyclopedia in such a manner. No members of advocacy groups should be editing any pages for any sort of gain, in order to skew public opinion, or to defame someone's character. Any IP addresses found making edits in this manner will be blocked to the full extent possible. Further, I will be making an investigation into the IP address that posed this question, and will make any necessary reports to see that this person is not permitted to edit Misplaced Pages. GlassCobra 20:19, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- While I agree with the content of what GlassCobra has said, I would like to apologise to the OP for the tone, which I think is bitey. It is clear from the number of questions we get about promotion and advocacy that people unfamiliar with Misplaced Pages may not be aware how much of a no-no they are. --ColinFine (talk) 00:10, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Reporting an account that claims it is operated by multiple individual persons
Karenmharvey is a user that is clearly against Misplaced Pages policy by straightforwardly claiming to be used by multiple people. I wish to report this to the correct administrators so action can be taken. Where should I go? Thanks, Bensci54 (talk) 22:27, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, if you read her userpage, this is one Karen M. Harvey, editing on behalf of a constituten project of the MASB. The second paragraph is a description of the other people involved in that project. We have no reason to believe anybody else controls this account; so WP:ROLE is not actually relevant.

- Agree with Orange Mike's comments about this being just a single person. If it were controlled by multiple people, it would be best to report it at WP:ANI after discussing it with the user or after the user made it blatantly obvious that it wasn't just one person. - If you want an article on a subject you can either try writing one, or request one at WP:Requested articles. But the onus will be on you to show that the subject meets Misplaced Pages's criteria for notability. From your tone and the fact that a Google search does not turn up an immediately obvious candidate, I suspect that your purpose here it promoting something that is not, at least not yet, notable. If that is the case, please come back when independent reliable sources have noticed your societal movement. --ColinFine (talk) 22:28, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- 1) Sounds like an up-and-coming next big thing, which by definition has no place here.
- 2) UCC 1-308 has no relation to anything to do with intellectual property rights of any kind. If somebody is trying to tell you that it does, I'd look at whatever else they have to say with extreme dubiety.
- 3) If you do mean "One People's Public Trust", that's just the latest magical-thinking tax protester scam in the sovereign citizen movement vein, and not even one sufficiently notable to merit an article here. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:59, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Dear JB Brown: I hate to be the bearer of such tidings, but "OPPT" -- whatever it is -- is not a "most viral and important/significant new societal movement." And, as others have noted above, if it were a "most viral and important/significant new societal movement," that "fact" would not, in and of itself, qualify the subject as being suitable for an encyclopedia article.
By the way, the phrase "without prejudice UCC 1-308 all rights reserved" is meaningless gibberish based on garbage that is passed around the internet. Writing such language when you sign something on this Misplaced Pages page has no legal significance. Famspear (talk) 23:29, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Coordinates for use in infobox
ResolvedTemplate:Infobox exchange has a field coor. Is there an easy way to retrieve those coordinates? I would like to add a value for the parameter to the infobox in an article, but I am unsure how or where to obtain these coordinates. Can I do it using Google Maps? If so, how? The article where I want to specify that field in the infobox is Fukuoka Stock Exchange. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:07, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- In the United States you can right click on a location in Google Maps and then click "what's here?" and it will put the coordinates in the search box at the top. I tried to search your building, but I can't read Japanese so I can't tell you if it works for Japan. CTF83! 11:23, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- http://www.earthtools.org/ also works, just zoom in as far as you can, click "find places" on the left then click "location" on the left and it will give you the coordinates. If you're in the wrong place, just move to the correct one, hit "height" then "location" again to reset it. CTF83! 11:31, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Deor fixed it. Thanks to both of you. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:40, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure where you went wrong with the coordinates, Toshio; but for future reference, the easiest way to find coordinates for a place whose location you know is to use this tool. Just drag and double-click on the map repeatedly to zoom in on the location, then Ctrl-click to place the marker on the place. You can then read the coordinates in either decimal or degrees-minutes-seconds format. The tool even displays some filled-in {{coord}} templates on the left, which you can just copy and paste into an article. Deor (talk) 12:51, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- That seems like a cool thing, which quickly went on my userpage for future use. Thanks. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 13:17, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Question Regarding Logo Images Contained Within PDF Files
I have a question regarding logos that might be made available online in PDF format only. Is it possible for logos to be extracted out of PDF files (by the uploader) and uploaded to the Misplaced Pages article corresponding to the station of the extracted logo? I notice that for certain articles (such as WFLC, WEDR, and WHQT), the logos were all extracted from a PDF file. I've got a few radio stations I know of that don't have any active websites but they have PDF files which feature the logos. This is only just a curious question and I figured to take the time to ask it, for "It Never Hurts To Ask." 98.229.132.126 (talk) 16:32, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, that's possible. However the logos copyright status needs to be determined. Can you provide a link to the PDF document containing the logo and tell us, in which Misplaced Pages article you want to use it? Then we can give more specific advice. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 16:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, sure, I could provide some information. I just need to seek out the link to that PDF file.

Here's The PDF Logo I Was Considering
Here It Is: The radio station logo for WLTN (AM), enclosed within the upper half of this PDF file. The parent company of WLTN (AM) seems to be Radio New England Broadcasting, LLC and the "Oldies 1400 & The Golden Great 98.5" portion of the upper half of this PDF file seems to be the logo for WLTN (AM) (everything above the light-green-font "Featuring the Greatest Hits of the 60ʼs, & 70ʼs !" and possibly excluding the jukebox image). By the way, I'm in doubt that maybe this is something that should be taken up on the Files For Upload page; although, I'm also uncertain about whether if I was to take up this concern on that page, I'd be referred back to this page.
- Oh, and I almost forgot, the topic is PDF Image Extraction to obtain a logo image and upload it into a Misplaced Pages article.
98.229.132.126 (talk) 17:22, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- This can be uploaded as a free work, because it fails the threshold of originality required for copyright protection. In the file upload wizard, you can simply select This is a free work. Then select This file is in the Public Domain for some other reason. Select It is too simple to be eligible for copyright. Select Item consists solely of a few indiviual words or letters. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 17:36, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
To Toshio Yamaguchi, I'm afraid that I don't upload images myself. This is partially so, because I wish to avoid accountability if anything is wrong with what I upload or whether a copyright issue gets violated. I present the URL links to the images I wish to have uploaded to the Files For Upload page. It is very easy to violate a copyright and I'm a bit too faint-of-heart to run that risk. I just get other people to upload images I wish to have uploaded. 98.229.132.126 (talk) 17:46, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- I uploaded the logo and it can now be found at File:WLTN radio station logo.png. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 18:15, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Done I added the logo to the infobox at WLTN (AM). -- Toshio Yamaguchi 18:20, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
WLTN (AM) Full-Logo Description
- I wished for most of the upper-half of the file to be added, such as the "Oldies 1400" and "Golden Great 98" and stuff like that (like, multiple images that all make up the logo). I do appreciate the upload; however, I'd just like to clarify that multiple images existing at the upper half of the PDF file of mention all make up the logo, such as the "Oldies 1400" and "Golden Great 98" and Blue-Text "WLTN" and, quite possibly, the jukebox image. (Everything above the light-green-font "Featuring the Greatest Hits of the 60ʼs, & 70ʼs !" but below the "Radio New England Broadcast Properties Present: The All New" and possibly excluding the jukebox image, basically)
98.229.132.126 (talk) 18:35, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Is that combination of textlogos and the image officialy being used as a logo by the station? Misplaced Pages has rules regarding the use of logos, see Misplaced Pages:Logos. Per Misplaced Pages:Logos#Logo choice: "Logos that contain slogans should be omitted in favour of equivalent logos that do not." -- Toshio Yamaguchi 18:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- To Toshio Yamaguchi - "Is that combination of textlogos and the image officialy being used as a logo by the station?" - Yes; although, the only element of uncertainty is the jukebox. Otherwise, the answer is yes. That being stated, perhaps the jukebox should be excluded, if you do update the logo upload to feature also the "Oldies 1400" and "Golden Great 98" (basically, the total WLTN (AM) logo).
- As for those rules you've linked me to, I'll read up on them right now. If those rules concerning the use of logos in Misplaced Pages featured in Misplaced Pages:Logos restrict us from being able to post the logo in the manner that I've described, then I guess the logo will stay as it stands.
- Also please see WP:PROMOTION and Misplaced Pages:About in order to get an impression of what exactly Misplaced Pages is and Misplaced Pages:What Misplaced Pages is not for what it not is. Respectfully, -- Toshio Yamaguchi 19:08, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
To Toshio Yamaguchi - Please, offer me an update when you can as to what your final determination was in regards to the logo (whether the current upload should stay or whether you figured that it's okay to upload the full logo as described and when it's done).
- Thank You (Toshio Yamaguchi) for This Link: Misplaced Pages:What Misplaced Pages is not. I will now take a look at that. I suppose I shouldn't be treating Misplaced Pages as a blog, for I am suspicious that this might be exactly what I'm doing.

Does not exist
my problem is this. I am told that the information i seek "does not exist " BUT I have obtained from wikipedia websites that the information does exist , namely - Edward byles Cowell translation of Omar khayyam which he had printed in the Calcutta review of March 1858 . I am also told by wikipedia that the calcutta review of 1858 does not exist !!!. BUT I am invited by wikipedia to " have the requested items "created". Do you not think that the term "does not exist" needs some clarification? - Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and Edward Byles Cowell both have references to the document in question, I think.--Canoe1967 (talk) 22:50, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- I think I have guessed what you refer to, but it was difficult because you omitted the start of the quote, and registered users are used to seeing a different text. While not being logged in you must have entered "calcutta review of 1858" in the search box. This gives the text:
The page "calcutta review of 1858" does not exist. You can create a draft and submit it for review or request that a redirect be created.
- It simply means that Misplaced Pages has no page with the exact page name "calcutta review of 1858". It doesn't say anything about whether such a thing exists outside of Misplaced Pages, or whether it's mentioned in Misplaced Pages under another page name. It's mentioned in Edward Byles Cowell. PNG versus JPEG
Why does Misplaced Pages generally tend to appreciate PNG image files with transparent background far more than JPEG image files with an opaque background, even if the later image is of a considerably-higher resolution size? Suppose you have a large JPEG image (but with an opaque background) and a considerably smaller PNG image with transparent background? I'm curious about why Misplaced Pages considers the later image to be the "Better" image. I notice an interesting SVG file format that makes an appearance in various Misplaced Pages articles. Usually, most SVG images are inclusive of a disclaimer that informs, "This image rendered as PNG in other sizes," most often listing the following sizes: 200px, 500px, 1000px, 2000px. I'm wondering whether Misplaced Pages generally tends to appreciate transparent-background PNG images far better than JPEG image files with an opaque background, even if the later is of a considerably-larger resolution size due to reasons of software compatibility relating to the Misplaced Pages applications that are most often used to format images between both the PNG Image File Format and the SVG Image File Format. Is there some special size-editing software within Misplaced Pages that can enlarge PNG image files or convert them into SVG image files, or something (and that software would not work on JPEG image files with an opaque background)? I'm just curious. 98.229.132.126 (talk) 00:45, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- I shortened your very long section heading. You don't give examples but many images in Misplaced Pages are used as fair use and not allowed to have high resolution per WP:Image resolution. PNG is a lossless format. JPEG is not. JPEG was designed for photos (the P stands for Photographic) and is often OK for that, but less suited for logos and drawings. Logos are usually fair use. Europe Business Assembly article
Dear Sirs,
I was disappointed to read an article on Europe Business Assembly. This misjudges the purpose of our organization - international cooperation, promotion of trade and exchange of experience in the fields of education, business and science.
Furthermore, it completely disregards our efforts in organizing world class events such as Oxford Summit of Leaders and other conferences throughout the world.
I strongly suggest to delete unjust critical article, which has no evidence and is based on speculations and guesses of the author.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Connecting to a portal
I just had an article accepted a couple of days ago on a psychoanalyst named "Robert Langs". I think it probably should be linked up to the "psychology portal" but I have not found any instructions on how I can do that. Can you tell me where to look or how to do that?Whitjr (talk) 02:51, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Please clarify what you mean by "linked up to the psychology portal", and give an example of another article which does what you want for Robert Langs. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:31, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- To have your Robert Langs article show up in the Portal:Psychology Did you know section for new articles, you could post a request at Portal:Psychology/Did you know. However, that page appears to be inactive. Portal:Psychology does not appear to be that active, either. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 03:39, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Linking the other way, I have added links in the article pointing to a couple of portals. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks to each of you. I did not know about the request site and I will see if that works. Thanks for linking the article up to the psychology and psychiatry portals as well. One of the reasons I asked my confusing question was that I assumed the portal worked rather like categories at the end of the article. The psychoanalyst whom I wrote on (Robert Langs) is someone I think should counted amongst the important figures in psychoanalysis -- or at least I think the case could be made. So I was trying to figure out how I could make the article more present amongst the psychology articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitjr (talk • contribs) 14:03, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Cape Wrath article
Hi, I am currently reverting edits by User:Gb009761 who has now taken to editing from IP address 109.154.222.150. The edits are being made to the Cape Wrath article, in which the said user keeps on adding a large section entitle "Ozone Cafe". The section is blatant advertising of a small business - giving opening times and even the contact telephone number of the owners. I have tried explaining to the user that it states at Misplaced Pages:What Misplaced Pages is not#Misplaced Pages is not a soapbox or means of promotion that "articles about very small "garage" or local companies are typically unacceptable." Not only is the information advertising but it is not encyclopedic. The information is also very "trivial" which I believe is also not supposed to be included on Misplaced Pages, and no matter what I say to this user he/she keeps on reverting the same advertisement into the article. Any help would be much appreciated. QuintusPetillius (talk) 10:22, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- John & Kay Ure missing their first Christmas together in over 35 years doesn't seem to play a significant role in the history of Cape Wrath. There appears to enough reliable source material about Ozone Cafe to justify its own article. The Cape Wrath article probably should have some information about the Ozone Cafe tea shop in the historic lighthouse at Cape Wrath under the article's Attractions / Amenities subsection. I posted a note on Gb009761's talk page and rearranged the article Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Cities/Settlements: Article structure. That should give the editors a better idea of what information to include and what information (e.g., phone numbers, etc.) to not include. The article appears to contain copyvio material, as though someone merely found info about Cape Wrath on the Internet and posted it to the article. Feel free to remove that material it if appears to be copyvio to you. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:57, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi thanks for the reply but the problem is as a remove material, as per Misplaced Pages guide lines it justs gets immediately re-added by the user in question. I was hoping that an admin could possibly try explaining to the user (User:Gb009761 or IP address 109.154.222.150) how it works. Thanks. QuintusPetillius (talk) 13:00, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Checking of one of my edits
Can someone check this edit of mine? I tried to fix a deadlink and found to copies of the source under different urls. Is this the correct way to do it or
- should I specify the urls as parameters of only one single citation template (if so, are there parameters for that? {{Cite web}} {{Cite news}} both seem to offer only one url parameter) or
- should I enclose each instance of the cite web template within <ref> tags (strictly seen it is only one source though, which is available in several locations)?

Which university?
ResolvedAccording to Roy Chaplin's obit. in the Times (20 December 1988) (subscription required) "e read engineering at London University from 1915-1917". Which university would this be then? Do we have an article on it? If this is the wrong board, please move it to the correct board--Senra (talk) 15:11, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- I believe that would be the University of London. Deor (talk) 15:15, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Are you sure? It is unlike the Times to get their facts wrong. Indeed, the Guardian (21 December 1988) (subscription required) also reports that Chaplin was educated at London University. Comparing the history of University of London with University College London I would have thought the latter more likely, but even then, why did the Times and Guardian in 1988 both report London University? --Senra (talk) 16:24, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Did you not spot that University College is a constituent college of the University? Rojomoke (talk) 16:51, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed. Since 1898. Therefore, would I be correct to state "He attended London University between 1915–1917 reading engineering" (more overtly ])? --Senra (talk) 17:00, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- 1836, not 1898. And, of course, London University redirects to University of London. - David Biddulph (talk) 17:36, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Great. I was not aware of the redirect. Thank you. Incidentally re 1836 @Biddulph: you may wish to fix the University of London article which currently suggests "In 1898, ... and King's and UCL now became constituent parts of the University of London" --Senra (talk) 18:29, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Interview
Can I interview an admin?--EatIcecream2 (talk) 16:26, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

- Is there any-one willing to do it?--EatIcecream2 (talk) 16:46, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Consider asking this at the administrators noticeboard though I would respectfully advise you to phrase the request to include more information, such as why you want to interview an administrator --Senra (talk) 16:55, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- I want to find out why on earth any-one would want to edit wikipedia.--EatIcecream2 (talk) 17:52, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- There are many reasons. Our own article is probably biased on this topic. Consider reading Wadewitz (Mar 2010) or Gardner (Feb 2010). There are plenty more sources --Senra (talk) 18:21, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- You should be aware that most people who edit Misplaced Pages are not admins. Maproom (talk) 20:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed. Only about 1 percent of active users are administrators. There are currently 62,283,735 English Misplaced Pages pages of which 6,941,304 are articles. There are 48,566,324 users (normal editors) of whom 117,614 are classed as active (users who have performed an action in the last 30 days) and 847 administrators. We currently have 40950 good articles and 6665 featured articles. Please help if you can! --Senra (talk) 22:01, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Uploading Picture Directly From Computer If Not A Misplaced Pages Member
Is it possible for a non-member Misplaced Pages editor to upload a picture to an article directly from their computer? I'm just wondering. I have a radio station logo that I've extracted out of a PDF file and saved to my computer as a PNG file (without a transparent background). It was a very tricky and tedious process for me, because I wanted to make the dimensions exactly (730px × 320px) in size and I needed to white out a part of the area that was not a part of the radio station's logo. I worked very hard and diligently generating that PNG file and I was just curious about whether there is any I could upload it directly from my computer (in spite of the fact that I am not a member of Misplaced Pages). 98.229.132.126 (talk) 17:50, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- No. But it is easy to create an account and then upload it. See WP:Account and WP:Upload RudolfRed (talk) 18:00, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- What would happen, regarding the resolution reduction process for logo images or any other images that might be protected by copyright laws? Would it be the responsibility of the person uploading the image file to reduce the resolution or does the Misplaced Pages shrink down images automatically? Just wondering. I don't feel up to generating a Misplaced Pages at this juncture in time, because I feel like I've got too much of a carefree personality at this point in time and Misplaced Pages strikes me as being a very serious encyclopedia type of thing, something I'm not quite ready for at this point in time. But thank you very much, RudolfRed (talk), for the advice.

- Request the image to be uploaded at files for upload. TBrandley 19:17, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- I would urge extreme caution here. I am not a copyright lawyer so what follows is general advice. Is the logo you are modifying covered by copyright? What is its copyright status? You may not be allowed to modify it let alone upload it to either Misplaced Pages or Wikimedia Commons. You may wish to thoroughly read Misplaced Pages:Copyrights or Commons:Copyright rules before proceeding further--Senra (talk) 19:21, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- To Senra (talk), I wish for most of the upper-half of this PDF file to be added, such as the "Oldies 1400" and "Golden Great 98" and stuff like that (like, multiple images that all make up the logo). I'd just like to clarify that multiple images existing at the upper half of the PDF file of mention all make up the logo, such as the "Oldies 1400" and "Golden Great 98" and Blue-Text "WLTN" and, quite possibly, the jukebox image. (Everything above the light-green-font "Featuring the Greatest Hits of the 60ʼs, & 70ʼs !" but below the "Radio New England Broadcast Properties Present: The All New" and possibly excluding the jukebox image, basically). In the end, the resolution turned out to be roughly (730px × 320px) in size and the image featured everything excluding the jukebox. I needed to very carefully "Snapshot" that portion of the PDF file (while at 100% exactly) and then paste my selection into an MS Paint document and manually erase the portion of the jukebox that ended up in the frame, then ultimately ended my project by saving my work as a non-transparent PNG file. As far as I am knowledgeable of, the logo artwork is a 2012 copyright to the parent company of the station: Radio New England Broadcasting, LLC; although, the copyright part is unclear by me but, rather, I'm just assuming that it's copyrighted material, just to play it safe. "Better Safe Than Sorry," as the saying goes.

- As I said. I am not qualified to answer copyright questions. I am simply drawing your attention to some possible issues. If you have doubt, raise a specific question at our copyright noticeboard. They are far more qualified to answer than I am. In addition, I note you have spent considerable time trying to obtain the image you want. After clearing any potential copyright issues and after your image has been uploaded, consider asking the nice people at Commons:Graphic Lab to do any image clean-up work your image might need. Note that the image would need to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons in that case. Good luck --Senra (talk) 20:42, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

cited index
Is there a cited index for wikipedia? In other words, is there a simple way to find all articles that reference a particular article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.50.74.170 (talk) 18:36, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Go to the article you're interested in, and then click "what links here" in the toolbox on the left side column. RudolfRed (talk) 18:58, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- And if you only want links from articles then select "(Article)" in the namespace field. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:07, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
IAAF template
We use the IAAF template for a common external link in athlete articles. See Usain Bolt for an example. All those templates depend upon the athlete ID number. Recent revisions in the IAAF website now hide those athlete ID numbers. The old numbers still work, but I don't know what to do to add new names. I have two for an old athlete Candy Young and a new athlete Mary C. Cain that should appropriately be attached to their articles and more will certainly come. I guess we need some guidance or revision to the template from someone who understands this stuff so we can continue to add these templates in the future. Trackinfo (talk) 19:35, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- The documentation of Template:IAAF name and the reply at Template talk:IAAF name#IAAF new site show that Template:IAAF profile has already been created for the new format. I would have added a new optional parameter
urlname
to the existing template so articles could choose betweenid
andurlname
, but the new template also works. The code
* {{IAAF profile|country=united-states|namelink=mary-cain|text=Mary C. Cain}}
- produces:
- {{World Athletics}} template missing ID and not present in Wikidata.
- The text parameter can be omitted when it's placed on Mary C. Cain. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you so much. I've been around wikipedia for quite a while, but its still hard to find oblique stuff like this in the back hallways. Trackinfo (talk) 05:01, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
how to restore a wiki page after deletion
Hello, I was contacted by a person to take over a wiki page that was about me. I would like to have admin rights transfered to this individual becaus recent editing from the person who created was malicous. How do I do this? Thanks soo much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.100.238.23 (talk) 19:53, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- You don't. No one owns or administers any particular page. Most pages can be edited by anyone. If you are refering to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Laurie Elyse, it was deleted for lack of substantial independent references showing notability. You could try Misplaced Pages:Deletion review. Note also that we discourage editing about yourself. See our conflict of interest guidelines. Rmhermen (talk) 20:07, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Just so you know wikipedia doesn't transfer Admin rights. If its about you it must meet WP:BIO. Inorder to request sysop rights see WP:RFA. Hope that helps TucsonDavidU.S.A. 20:22, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- There are plenty of people within Misplaced Pages to address malicous posts (such as at WP:BLPN), so you don't need to resort to WP:OWN. It appears that the page to which you are referring was deleted at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Laurie Elyse. To address that, you can post a request at Misplaced Pages:Deletion review, as Rmhermen mentioned above. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:13, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Refactoring
I occasionally assist at this help-desk. In fact, I recently helped 98.229.132.126 (talk · contribs) both here and here. I then noticed previous related questions from this same ip:
- Requesting That WLKC-FM ...
- Requesting That WHOC AM ...
- Question Regarding Logo Images ...
- Here's The PDF Logo I Was Considering
- WLTN_(AM) Full-Logo Description
- PNG versus JPEG
- Uploading Picture ...
Is there a precedent for refactoring related questions from the same editor to keep them all together? At least perhaps those on the same day anyway? Erm. Nope. That doesn't work due time-zone differences
--Senra (talk) 21:29, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- As someone who replied to some of those question, I thought about this myself, but decided against it, because I thought that might make it more difficult for the user asking those question to find the respective thread again and see the replies. While I agree that this makes the help desk more organized from the viewpoint of a help desk volunteer, I think it might be confusing for the person who initially asked the question. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 22:34, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Cropping needed on image
thumbnail|right this image needs to be cropped so it shows only the area of interest, i.e. the tongue. I tried to to do this but failed =( How do I do this? Sorry for ignorance... Lesion (talk) 22:33, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- The correct place to ask for assistance with image editing is Misplaced Pages:Graphics Lab/Photography workshop. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 22:39, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Problem with the sorting table
Hello. I have been doing the List of NK Maribor players, with the intention of making this list a future FL. However, I stumbled to a little problem. I have completed the table but for some reason, unkown to me, the table wont sort properly in two sections (appearances and goals). All other sections seem to be without problems so I am puzzled.. Thanks, Ratipok (talk) 03:17, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
- I think I have fixed the problem. I added data-sort-type="number" to the header of the columns: see Misplaced Pages:Sortable_table. Maproom (talk) 09:20, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Rules Concerning Images In Infoboxes?
I'm wondering whether there are rules concerning the images which can be placed in Infoboxes, and if so, where the rules can be found? The reason I'm asking is that some time ago I added an image to the Infobox in the article on John de Vere, 12th Earl of Oxford . The image was of the site of the scaffold on Tower Hill where the 12th Earl was executed, and today the image and caption were deleted by another editor with the comment that images in Infoboxes should be of the subject. There are no available images of the 12th Earl of Oxford, and the image of where he was executed is relevant to the article. Is there a Misplaced Pages rule that the only image permitted in an Infobox in an article on a historical personage is an image of the person? Help with this would be much appreciated. NinaGreen (talk) 05:00, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
- I can only point to Misplaced Pages:LEADIMAGE. Ruslik_Zero 09:50, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
- You can try this format if you think the image should be at the top of the page. Also, are any of these images of the John de Vere, 12th Earl of Oxford? On a different note, File:Tower Hill scaffold location - Sign 2.jpg might be a good image for the article. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:04, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
