Schuylkill Navy page

Hey I saw you were doing some editing to the Schuylkill Navy page. I am working on the page with a couple of my classmates at Cornell University for a project in our Online Communities class. You seem to be pretty good at editing on Misplaced Pages, given the Barnstar section below, would you mind taking a look at our edits over the next couple weeks to make sure we are doing things correctly? It would be really helpful for us.

Thanks! Andrew, Eddie, and Janice ~~~~

Barnstar for you!

Waikouaiti - something needs to be done

I'm in transit at the moment (currently Kuala Lumpur airport) so I'm not able to give this the attention it deserves. And I'm not sure what sort of internet service I'm travelling to. If you haven't got time for this, just tell me where I should start - is there an {{infobox NZ places}}? fixed, there are more in Category:Populated places in the Otago Region. Frietjes (talk) 16:21, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Maybe animal infoboxes could be merged?

Can you please check Category:Animal infobox templates. I think some of these infoboxes could be merged to a single one or share the same code plus some child infobox. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:32, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Frietjes is it possible to do it? -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:36, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
certainly possible, but would take some time to sort out all the overlaps. Frietjes (talk) 21:45, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Template:Infobox men's college basketball team‎, etc.

Frietjes, here's a template merge I would support in a heartbeat: Template:Infobox men's college basketball team‎ and Template:Infobox women's college basketball team‎.

Have you ever contemplated a comprehensive merge of all the college sports team infobox templates? With a handful of options, I think all U.S. college sports could be accommodated and the team infoboxes would then have a uniform appearance across all sports. Just a thought . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:48, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

the first is already proposed here. I had thought about the second as well, but it will take more time to work out all the details, since there are differences in the post-season tournament section for various sports. Frietjes (talk) 22:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
I just posted a comment in support of the merge of men's and women's college basketball templates. That pending merge should be a no-brainer, and you are clearly already on top of the two minor issues to be addressed in the combined template.
The creation of a combined infobox template for all U.S. college sports teams would require a lot of work and the inclusion of several options, but the core information to be included is common to all. Differences in NCAA playoff structure, etc., could be accommodated by options to be toggled as needed. The payoff would be worth the effort. Not only should these infoboxes have a common appearance within a given sport, the teams affiliated with a given university should also have a common appearance and graphics style, and that can only be accomplished by a common template across all college sports teams. I think you would find the college football, basketball and baseball sports projects to be supportive, and the other college sports do not have active/vocal WikiProjects and tend to follow the lead of the football, basketball and baseball projects. I would be grateful for your help in making this happen, but I also understand that you have numerous pending template projects already. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 11:14, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Infobox conversion requests

Template:Infobox artist discography and Template:Infobox producer discography. -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:37, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

possible, but would require such massive code complexity that it probably would not be worth it. the issue is that every single label and data field has a different colour, and the infobox module does not (currently) support this, it could still be feasible using div tags, but it would require some comparisons/discussion. Frietjes (talk) 15:58, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Updating infobox building

Hi, can you update this with the infobox hotel parameters? Sevral of the parameters in The Dorchester aren;t showing. The infobox hotel was voted to be deleted ages ago but it still hasn't and it's now got a nasty mint colour in it..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:28, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: what parameters aren't showing? I added suites, and alternative syntax for rooms. Frietjes (talk) 19:34, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
here is the translation table, the ones in pink will require new parameters to be added to {{infobox building}} or removal.

note that there is a typo in the alt parameter in the hotel box, where it is used for both the logo and the image, so this should be corrected as well. Frietjes (talk) 20:15, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Pushpin support on the map was added for an editor. As was the option to choose a symbol for hotels. This probably needs to be kept and the pushpin choices expanded for different types of buildings over time. 'map_dot_label' sounds like the label for the pushpin and probably should be phased out and replaced with pushpin_label. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:31, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
could do that, perhaps call it |pushpin_type=? what about affiliation and Facilities? where are these used? Frietjes (talk) 22:46, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. At one time Vegas I advocated the keeping of it but I really think it's redundant now. It was voted to be merged long ago anyway.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:00, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Help: Template:Wichita Thunder roster

I do not understand why I was not invited along with others to TFD. The reasoning behind the deletion is confusing, as Template:Wichita Thunder roster was not a single use template. This makes editing hard and more time consuming for editors of these deleted roster templates. I do not want to get into "wiki politics", I just want to edit these roster templates as I have for years. --ilamb94 (talk) 03:41, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

@Ilamb94: it was only used in one article when I nominated it for deletion. if you want to include the roster in both the season article, and in the main team article, then use the method used by Missouri Mavericks / 2013–14 Missouri Mavericks season. these roster templates are being routinely merged and deleted following dozens of related discussion like this one and this one. Frietjes (talk) 14:51, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Opera again

A recent discussion mentioned the wish to see the genre of an opera above the picture. I found a simple solution introducing an extra parameter, but it would be better to show the present |genre= instead if that is entered, and nothing if not. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:50, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: not entirely sure how it should work, so perhaps you can help clarify. it looks like you want merge the 'genre_header' and 'genre' parameters, and add a 'subgenre' parameter? then, you would have 'genre' appear at the top where 'genre_header' is now, and 'subgenre' appear in the genre field in the main section of the infobox? Frietjes (talk) 23:12, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
Right. It's just ideas, and I am not the one to decide ;) - I would like to know how a conditional coding to normally show |genre= on top (and only on top) would look. Next steps would be add subgenre, but that would be easy. Third step (but possibly not needed): overwrite |genre= by |genre_header=. The template should not yet be changed, not before |genre= is properly filled. - A similar question comes up for {{infobox musical composition}}: to show genre in the header or not, or not at all but have it for metadata. Example: if an article title is Symphony No. 8, there's no reason to say in the infobox that it is a symphony. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:09, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Help requested

Hi - Would you be willing to help create a mockup of Template:Infobox basketball biography to help achieve consensus around moving college basketball players to this infobox (see Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject College Basketball#Proposal to migrate men's college basketball players and coaches to Template:Infobox basketball biography for discussion)? I would see two changes - 1) link to college colors (there should be a table for some schools linking to Template:Infobox college football player that would suffice for demonstration purposes) and 2) add a field "college_class" for their year in school (freshman, sophomore, etc), to display above the position field. I think mocking up a couple of existing college players/coaches would help people get behind the idea, but I don't know how to create this myself. Can you help (or teach me)? Thank you! Template:Advaita Vedanta

Hi Frietjes (you're Dutch?) WP:LISTGAP says: "Do not separate list items, including items in a definition list (a list made with leading semicolons and colons) or an unordered list, by leaving blank lines between them". There are no blank lines in my preferred lay-out for this list. I do prefer it because it results in an easy readible list. What's your point of view on this? Greetings, Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 21:36, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

Although... "*" also seems to give a plain list, doesn't it? Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 21:38, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
semantically, these are lists, so should use list markup. how the list is presented to sighted readers is another issue, but the use of list markup is helpful for screen readers, unlike <br> tags which are not list delimiters. Frietjes (talk) 21:42, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
