Jurassic World is an upcoming American science-fiction adventure film and the fourth in the Jurassic Park film series. The film was originally scheduled to be released on June 13, 2014, but it has re-entered development with a release date set for summer 2015. It will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and produced by Patrick Crowley and Frank Marshall. Derek Connolly and Trevorrow will write the script. A plot synopsis has not been confirmed.

Since the release of the third Jurassic Park film in 2001, progress on a potential fourth film was put in "development hell" for more than a decade. In early 2013, Universal Pictures announced a release date and director for Jurassic Park 4. Trevorrow said the film will take place 22 years after the events of the first film.

On September 10, 2013, Universal Pictures confirmed it will release the film, retitled Jurassic World, with a scheduled date of June 12, 2015.

At the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Spielberg confirmed that preparations for Jurassic Park 4 were in progress, with a story ready and a script being written. Spielberg said that it would be possibly released "within the next two or three years", with a representative from Universal saying 2013 would be the preferred deadline for completion. On October 26, 2011, Spielberg said that the script was being written by Mark Protosevich, and that he hoped for it to be released "in the next couple of years" and that he felt the story they were working on was stronger than that of Jurassic Park III.

In January 2012, Spielberg announced that he would not be directing the film, opting instead to be a producer. On June 21, it was confirmed that Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver would be scripting Jurassic Park 4. Whether they will be continuing Mark Protosevich's script or creating a completely new script is unknown. On July 2, 2012, Frank Marshall responded to a question on Twitter which further confirmed that he would be producing Jurassic Park 4.

On January 11, 2013, Universal said Jurassic Park 4 would be shot in 3D and released June 13, 2014. In February, it was reported that Kathleen Kennedy will not be producing the film in favor of focusing on Star Wars Episode VII for 2015. On March 14, Universal announced that Colin Trevorrow will direct the film; he had been attached as early as June 2012. In early April 2013, Jack Horner announced that a new dinosaur would rise to infamy as the villain of Jurassic Park 4, saying, "I can't actually tell you who that will be… But you'll want to keep the lights on after you see this movie." This has spawned many speculations from fans of what the creature will be, including Allosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Jeholopterus, or an aquatic creature such as Tylosaurus or even Liopleurodon. Horner will serve as consultant for the new film.

While a February 22, 2013, Twitter post attributed to producer Frank Marshall said, "No decisions have been made regarding where we are shooting," the director of studio operations at Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said the following month that Universal Pictures had reserved space there from April to November 2013, without specifying the project for which it was reserved.

A Twitter post attributed to Trevorrow stated there will be no feathered dinosaurs in Jurassic Park 4. In April 2013, paleontologist Jack Horner, a consultant on the film, said the movie prominently will include a new and frightening extinct creature.

On May 2, 2013, Trevorrow tweeted "Nublar", the name of the island in the earlier films, with a picture of Kauai taken during location scouting. That November, he tweeted that, "Reboot is a strong word. This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park. According to Trevorrow, production is on hold, and the movie release date was pushed to 2015.

On April 12, 2013, the studio announced filming would begin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Kauai on June 24, 2013, with the script being reworked by director Colin Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly. The studio received their draft on March 6, 2013, and found the script changes more "epic and ambitious than what the Studio was planning for". On May 8, 2013, the studio announced it was pushing the release from June 13, 2014, to an unspecified future date.

Sam Neill, who portrayed Dr. Alan Grant in the previous Jurassic Park films, said he was unlikely to be part of the film, stating, "I'm told it's a big reboot, a total re-jig." On June 1, 2013, director Colin Trevorrow tweeted an assurance that the film was "very much alive. We're writing and designing." On June 18, 2013, a teaser banner was revealed at Licensing Expo 2013 that boasted a 2015 release. On August 15, 2013, John Krasinski was purported to be in talks for a role in the film as a dinosaur tamer.

On September 10, 2013, Universal Pictures confirmed the film would be titled Jurassic World and would be released on June 12, 2015. That same month, Bryce Dallas Howard was in early negotiations to play a role. By mid-October, Ty Simpkins had been cast as the child lead and Jake Johnson was being considered for a role. Nick Robinson was cast as Simpkin's older brother, while Josh Brolin was in talks to play the adult lead. Bryce Dallas Howard was cast in early November. By the middle of the month, Brolin was no longer in talks for the film, and Chris Pratt was in early negotiations for the lead role, a "rugged, ex-military man named Owen." Ron Howard tweeted in January 2014 that Pratt had a starring role in the film.

On February 28, 2014, Vincent D'Onofrio joined the cast as the villain, with Irrfan Khan also cast in a supporting role. Omar Sy is also rumored to be in talks.
