David Perdue (born December 10, 1949) is an American businessman who is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss. He won the most votes in the Republican primary election in Georgia on May 20, 2014, and beat Rep. Jack Kingston in the runoff primary on July 22, 2014.

Career

Perdue was a Principal of Kurt Salmon Associates, a management consulting firm. He served as the Senior Vice President of Asia Operations for Sara Lee, establishing the company's first Asia headquarters. As President and CEO of the Reebok brand, he was credited with revitalizing the athletic brand. It was during this time that Reebok signed an exclusive rights contract with the NFL. And as Chairman and CEO of Dollar General, he oversaw the company's expansion from 5,900 to 8,500 stores nationwide. While at Dollar General, he became heavily involved in literacy and served as Chairman of the National Commission on Literacy and Workforce Development. Other brands that he is associated with include Haggar, Rockport, Champion, Hanes, Levi's, Greg Norman, Polo Ralph Lauren, Riddel, and Coach.

Personal

David Perdue was born in Macon, Georgia, and raised in Warner Robins, Georgia. Both of his parents are educators and first generation college graduates. He has a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters degree in Operations Research, also from Georgia Tech. He is married to Bonnie Perdue, whom he met in first grade, and has been married to for 41 years. His wife was a teacher as well in the Gwinnett County School System. The couple has two sons together: Blake Perdue and David Perdue III, and has two grandchildren. The couple attends Wesley United Methodist Church in St. Simons, Georgia. He is the first cousin of former Georgia governor Sonny Perdue.
