General information
Name
The name "Teralfene" originates from the creeck the Alfene (now called the Bellebeek) which ends in the Dender.
History
During the Carolingian dynasty, Teralfene belonged to the Duchy of Brabant. As from 1056 it was part of a German territory that was given to the sepulchres of Flanders in feud (the so-called Rijks-Vlaanderen). Under French governance Teralfene was part of the Dijle-territory. During the Dutch period, this department was transformed to the province Zuid-Brabant in 1815 by Willem I of Orange.
