Horizon Media is a privately-owned media services company with estimated billings of over $6.3 billion. It employs over 1,200 workers. The agency was founded in 1989 by Bill Koenigsberg, who sits as its CEO. Horizon is headquartered in New York City, and has offices in, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and San Diego. Horizon Media's clients include GEICO, Burger King, Capital One, and The History Channel.
History
Horizon Media was founded in 1989 by current CEO, Bill Koenigsberg. It has become the largest independent media agency in the United States, worth approximately $3.4 billion in investments. The agency has over 300 clients which include: Geico, Capital One, A&E Networks, Jack in the Box, Corona, and United Airlines, among others. Horizon is an independent company but does integrate with other brands creating client characters like Geico's gecko and Capital One vikings, with networks such as Discovery Networks and The History Channel, including shows like Hatfields & McCoys.
Horizon Media is headquartered in downtown New York. As of 2012, Horizon media has over 700 employees in its four offices - Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City and Amsterdam. Horizon introduced the Knowledge Café, which is an educational series that allows the media and tech administrators to talk with employees and clients.
In May 2011, the company sent 17 employees to El Salvador with Habitat for Humanity. In 2011, it also created ties with Partnership for Drug-Free Kids.
Horizon's media team created Google's first Super Bowl ad, "Parisian Love," in 2011, which aired during the game's third quarter. The video garnered 6 million views on YouTube, and was viewed by 110 million spectators.
In 2013, Horizon Media launched a new unit called the WHERE Group. The managing director of channel insights and research at Horizon, Eric Blankfein, was named chief of the unit, which aimed to "learn and understand the ties between the consumer and the efficiency of their channels". More recently, Horizon division WHY was created to "recognize cultural and societal trends and understand how it drives consumer behavior".
In 2013 the company again partnered with Friedman: the independent media agency and Friedman's Bungalow Media + Entertainment launched Bungalow Horizon. Bungalow Horizon includes a 50 percent capital investment from Horizon Media and access to other resources. Friedman is now the CEO of Bungalow Horizon at its offices in New York.
On November 12, 2013, the media agency announced a new unit, Scout Wellness, in addition to Scout Sports and Entertainment. Rich Abend was hired as managing director to lead Scout Wellness. This unit seeks to "implement good health within the work environment". Clients such as Sleepy's, Weight Watchers and WhiteWave Foods, are among the Horizon clients marketed under this unit.
Evergreen-Partners joined Horizon Media, Inc. to create Eden Road Trading. Eden Road Trading is a division of the agency that provides the benefits of corporate trading to clients.
As of October 2016, Horizon Media added Avon to its marketing clients. Avon hired Horizon Media to manage offline media and activation. Horizon and the Terri & Sandy, a creative agency partner, both worked together on Avon's new "This is Boss Life" campaign, which aired nationally on TV, local broadcast, print and radio, such as BET, OWN, Bravo, local CBS and NBC, People, Redbook, Better Homes & Gardens, DJ Chatter and more.
