This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Dto (talk | contribs) at 04:27, 19 October 2006 (→Non-controversial proposals: link (measure) -> link (unit)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.
Revision as of 04:27, 19 October 2006 by Dto (talk | contribs) (→Non-controversial proposals: link (measure) -> link (unit))(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.
Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.
Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
ShortcutsSeparate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Misplaced Pages:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Misplaced Pages:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Misplaced Pages:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
ShortcutsAutoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Non-controversial proposals
Only list here proposals that are clearly non-controversial but require administrator help to complete. Things like capitalization and spelling mistakes would be appropriate here. If there is any prior discussion as to the name of the article please link to it. If there is any doubt as to whether a page move could be opposed by anyone, do not list it in this section. Please use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old Page Name|Requested name|Reason for move}} in this section only. No dated sections are necessary, and no templates on the article's talk page are necessary.
- List of lists of songs → Lists of songs — Improve grammar, and conform to standard naming format for "Lists of". Refer to Lists of lists to see the whole collection. —The Transhumanist 09:01, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Pah_Wraith → Pah-wraith — Former article contains more information, as well as everything in the latter article. However, according to Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki, the latter is the correct spelling. —Juansmith 01:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Link (measure) → Link (unit) — Along the same lines as rod (unit) and chain (unit). Link (unit) currently redirects to Gunter's measurement which in turns links to link (measure). I can fix double-redirects after this move is done. Thanks. ——dto (talkcontribs) 04:27, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Other proposals
Make sure that all of the proposals listed below have a discussion set up on talk page of the article to be moved. Please use the template {{subst:Misplaced Pages:RM}} and, if necessary, create a new dated section.
Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do NOT attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |

- Anti-Semitism → Antisemitism —(Discuss)— The article itself points out that "many scholars now favor the unhyphenated term" to emphasize that Antisemitism is NOT an antonym or opposition to "Semitism", which does not actually exist. Since multiple editors have apparently been confused on this point as well, a page-move would help avoid such confusion in future. — Arvedui 01:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oklahoma City, Oklahoma → Oklahoma City —(Discuss)— It is unnecessary for a city whose name contains the name of the state that it is located in to be followed by the name of said state (e.g., New York City, New York) — Roygene 01:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Jacqueline Bouvier (The Simpsons) → Jacqueline Bouvier —(Discuss)— Currently "Jacqueline Bouvier" redirects to "Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis". She was born "Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis" but is overwelmingly known as "Jackie Kennedy" or "Jackie Onassis". — Ted87 00:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

- Argonautika → Argonautica —(Discuss)— this work's most common name in English is Argonautica. See for instance , , . WP:GREEK also suggests that the title should be Argonautica. A redirect page is obstructing the move. --Akhilleus (talk) 21:09, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- PlayStation → PlayStation 1 (Talk:PlayStation#Requested_move) — now ambiguous with other versions, common sense if nothing else. --gatoatigrado 21:00, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Tom Corbett, Space Cadet → Tom Corbett —(Discuss)— This page was original entitled Tom Corbett, however was moved to "make way" for an article on an attorney general. I beleive the current consensus is that in the case of articles with the same name, the first article created gets precedence. — J E Bailey 20:38, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Community television → Community Television (Australian) —(Discuss)— I think this page should be split. The section about the Australian Community Television should have its own page (maybe Community Television (Australian) since it sounds almost like a seperate network in Australia, something like PBS in the US.) Then the first few paragraphs, and the see also links from the 26 September edit should stay here on Community television. (as a sort of Disambiguation page). Then have Community Television redirect here? — VikÞor | Talk 19:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Modal μ calculus → Modal mu calculus —(Discuss)— By WP:ENGLISH, pages names should use the Latin alphabet only — eboy 09:30, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Relisting -GTBacchus 19:41, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Dish Network Channel Grid → List of Dish Network Channels —(Discuss)— To fall in line with general naming for lists. — myselfalso 16:12, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Right of public access to the wilderness → Freedom to roam —(Discuss)— Has been suggested on the talk page to be a better name for the article — Inge 14:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Korean people → Koreans —(Discuss)— Tried to take this the other way on Talk:Greeks, but was opposed on the basis that we should use the most common name and only use "people" when the disambiguation is necessary. In this case, it is not - and "Koreans" by the Google test, shows up far more times than "Korean people". — Bssc81 14:19, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Brahminical culture and Dravidians → Tamil brahmins —(Discuss)— The current content is only about the latter subject. — Sundar 09:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Borat → Borat Sagdiyev —(Discuss)— Expand the article name to avoid any confusion between that and the movie title that is usually abbreviated to just Borat. — waffle iron 03:42, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Abd-Allah ibn Abd-al-Muttalib → ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib —(Discuss)— The current name was the result of User:Striver changing the titles of several articles to conform to a form of Arabic transliteration which he made up. There are international standards which are well documented at the Arabic MOS, and Striver's use of the hyphens is wrong. — Cuñado - Talk 03:13, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
17 October 2006
- Greeks → Greek people —(Discuss)— I'm going to do THIS one step at a time too (like the guy who's trying to move the US city names), but we need consistency for the ethnic group article titles. On one hand, you have Japanese people, English people, French people, Czech people, Spanish people, Swedish people, etc. And on the other, you have Greeks, Russians, Serbs, Germans, etc. Considering it is impossible to change many in the first set ("Japaneses"?), but it is always possible to change those in the second and append "people", it's easiest if we start moving them all to the "_____ people" format. — Bssc81 01:39, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Talk:Houston, Texas -- Like Chicago, New York City, and Philadelphia, the three largest and most famous cities in Texas certainly don't need to be disambiguated by state, and using the city name only is consistent with WP:NC(CN), and the Misplaced Pages convention used for almost all other large cities in the world. In each case, the name alone page redirects to the city article, so there are no ambiguity issues.
- Dino Dini's soccer → Dino Dini's Soccer — (Discuss) — Third word needs to be capitalized. N. Harmonik 16:48, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Athens International Airport, "Eleftherios Venizelos" → Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport —(Discuss)— Would move myself, but the talk history page shows that its already been moved twice, which I would call "controversial" and would only create a move war. I feel that the above name would be appropriate, creating a redirect at Athens International Airport. — thadius856talk 06:08, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Pitaten → Pita-Ten —(Discuss)— In the Manual of Style for Japan-related articles, #7 states "Names should be romanized according to common usage, which includes unconventional romanizations by licensees....". Since Tokyopop has the manga licensed in the U.S. as Pita-Ten, the page should also be Pita-Ten instead of Pitaten.) — Wirbelwind 06:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC) --Wirbelwind 06:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC))
- Provinces of regions in Belgium → Provinces of Belgium —(Discuss)— we do not have "Districts of counties of states in the United States", nor "Departments of the provinces in Argentina." We simply use the form "<Subdivisiontype> of <Country>" everywhere(?). This should also apply to Belgium, even if some stubborn user think Belgium is special and claims the rename is against WP:NPOV. The title is not there to fully _define_ the status of the provinces, it's there to _identify_ the topic. The article was move to the long title on 10 Oct and until now is only supported by the mover himself. - Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC) — Tobias Conradi (Talk) 03:17, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

- Smart windows → Smart glass —(Discuss)— "Smartglass" and "Smart windows" have been proposed for a merger. The new name should be a generic name, that is, "Smart glass", because "Smartglass" is corporate wording for a technology better known as "smart glass" (or "switchable glass"). Also, "Smart windows" refer exclusively to applications for windows, whereas the technology has a larger scope of applications. The present content of this page is a complete re-working of the topic, also incorporating the information from the the two stubs "Smartglass" and "Smart windows". The page Smart glass, to which the content of "Smart windows" should be moved, had a redirect to "Smartglass". — Chris Howard 20:45, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Moved from non-controversial, see respective talks (flag, coa):
- Coat of arms of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic → Coat of arms of Western Sahara and
- Flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic → Flag of Western Sahara - Pages were moved unilaterally by an editor notorious for pushing the Moroccan POV on WS-related articles. The latter move was already made once, moved back, and protected after a lengthy discussion. Wikima did not even bother consulting anyone before moving the pages, and they should clearly be moved back. He also did not move the talk page, nor fix redirects. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 19:16, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Addendum He also moved to create the misspelling "Coat of arms of the Sahrwai Arab Republic" in there, too. Please delete this. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 19:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Jack Black (actor) → Jack Black —(Discuss)— Links throughout Misplaced Pages that refer to ANY person named Jack Black refer to the actor 10 times as much as all the other Jack Blacks combined (this can be seen by checking the What Links Here pages for each. There are very few links to the other Jack Blacks.) So we know the other Jack Blacks are not extremely significant figures. Second, if you check what links to the plain Jack Black ->w:Special:Whatlinkshere/Jack Black, you'll notice virtually ALL refer to the actor. Thus, many links are leading to a disambiguation page when none is necessary. The actor is by far the most common person searched for named Jack Black. Thus, we should follow the Michael Jackson rule here. — Bssc81 19:40, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- "Detroit" -> Detroit (song) -(Discuss - See talk page. Georgia guy 18:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Wolverine Adamantium Rage → Wolverine: Adamantium Rage —(Discuss)— Proper title needs colon. N. Harmonik 17:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Matthew Rush (porn star) → Matthew Rush —(Discuss)— No need for "(porn star)" designation; no other article exists with this name — —Chidom 14:46, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Coma cluster of galaxies → Coma Cluster —(Discuss)— Although "Coma cluster of galaxies" is sometimes accepted elsewhere, "Coma Cluster" is also frequently used and may be preferable for Misplaced Pages. The object can be considered a proper noun, so it should be written with the first letters of both words capitalized (much like the first letters of "City", "Lake", and "Mountains" are capitalized in "New York City", "Lake Superior", and "Rocky Mountains"}. Previous discussions show support for this convention in naming articles on clusters. George J. Bendo 11:50, 16 October 2006 (UTC) — George J. Bendo 11:50, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yoghurt → Yogurt —(Discuss)— Yogurt is the common spelling and Google searches demonstrate this as there is more than a 4:1 ratio of the spelling yogurt, versus the MUCH less common yoghurt. It should be changed for consistency, as this is an English wikipedia, and not a British-only wikipedia, when the rest of the English-speaking world spells it yogurt. I can't find a single encyclopedia I have that lists it as yoghurt, nor do I find any products in the store called yoghurt. It needs to be fixed. - Relisting to get a better consensus, and to clarify interpretations of the Manual of Style regarding national varieties of English. -- tariqabjotu 02:05, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Los Angeles, California → Los Angeles —(Discuss)— An alpha world city, no other alpha world city has a secondary geographical designation (e.g. Paris, not Paris, France). It is the second-largest city in the United States by population. This move proposes to ignore the US city naming conventions of City, State (comma convention). However, neither the most populous US city nor the third-most populous obey this convention. In the english language, "Los Angeles" almost exclusively refers to Los Angeles, California. The few exceptions are already covered in Los Angeles (disambiguation). There was a vote for this move from December 29, 2005 to January 14, 2006 the result was no consensus. — -- R'son-W (speak to me/breathe) 01:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Aerocar Aerocar → Aerocar —(Discuss)— Current name is awkward and sticks rather too closely to the unofficial standard we have of naming car articles (that is, Manufacturername Modelname). — Recury 13:23, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
15 October 2006
- WRR (FM) → WRR-FM —(Discuss)— "-FM" needs to be added to the title, per WikiProject Radio Stations. — NTXweather 01:42, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

- Heroes of Might and Magic III → Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia —(Discuss)— Article was recently moved again as part of a series of moves. The article should return to the full title both for precision and to maintain consistency with similar articles. — SnowFire 21:52, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- Australian Gannet → Australasian Gannet —(Discuss)— seems more neutral as these gannets also occur in New Zealand. Although a name doesn't necessarily have anything to do with where a creature is found, if there are two common names and one is more location neutral I feel the more location neutral one should be preferred. Also although I don't like use Google to establish prevalence "Australasian Gannet" does have more hits then "Australian Gannet" — Nil Einne 07:52, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

- Blur (band) → Blur —(Discuss)— 500 links point to Blur, a disambiguation page, but I doubt any are looking for a page related to optics. All of the pages listed on the disambig page have titles sufficiently distinct from the band's name to avoid confusion. Moving the Blur and Blur (band) to their natural homes makes more sense than fixing all those links — Alcuin 23:42, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Blur → Blur (disambiguation) —(Discuss)— (necessary part of above request) — Alcuin 23:42, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

- Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha → Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha —(Discuss)— comply with naming conventions — Deb 22:36, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Cody Foster (porn star) → Cody Foster —(Discuss)— There is no article titled "Cody Foster" that is for a different person; it was designated as a redirect page. This is backwards; "Cody Foster (porn star) should redirect to "Cody Foster", as the latter is more likely to be what is entered when searching or when referencing the article in other articles.—Chidom 21:15, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- stop consonant → plosive consonant - Consistancy. Topses 20:22, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Court of Claims (United States) → United States Court of Claims —(Discuss)— Court was known as both the “Court of Claims” and the “United States Court of Claims” over its lifespan. Court of Claims was its appellation for 93 years, while U.S. Court of Claims was only valid for 34 years. Nonetheless, the new name would avoid the use of a parenthetical disambiguator. — DLJessup (talk) 15:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Départements of France → Department (France) —(Discuss)— The English word "department" includes as one of its meanings the French word "département." The en Misplaced Pages should not be attempting to have a French language entry for a common French term that has long-established equivalent in the English language. In keeping with what I think is standard Misplaced Pages procedure for disambiguating terms, the format for this kind of article title should be: <English_term (specific_use)>. If this proposal is accepted, the en article Département should redirect to the proposed new page, and a link to the new page should be placed on the disambiguation page Department. — -Eric 14:30, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Calton Hill, Edinburgh → Calton Hill —(Discuss)— This one is a lot more notable than the SSSI in Derbyshire: Calton Hill, Derbyshire. eg. looking at number of incoming links for both articles, plus all the current links to the dab page are actually referring to the Edinburgh one, which is usually an indication of an inappropriate dab page. (I have put a link to the discussion on the Talk pages of both the Derbyshire article and what is currently the dab page, to allow editors to participate.) — Mais oui! 09:05, 14 October 2006 (UTC) --Mais oui! 09:05, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is a litle bit complex to define the move. There are three article; Gallipoli (disambiguation) , Gelibolu , Gallipoli. Gelibolu already directed to Gallipoli. Gallipoli consist mixed info about Town and Peninsula.
This is necessary to keep two articles and theirs history and talk pages;Gelibolu for town and Gallipoli for peninsula. How we can do without disturbing any history and talk records. Mustafa Akalp 08:36, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Vaccinium_vitis-idaea → Cowberry —(Discuss)— correct English name according to all standard reference works consulted — Espoo 07:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Lineworker (occupation) → Lineman (occupation) —(Discuss)— "Lineworker" is rarely used. Article needs to be changed back to the most commonly used, and proper, term. Nobody except for a couple of U.S. state governments whose legislatures have mandated "non-sexist" job titles calls them "lineworkers". The article name was changed in the first place by somebody pushing an agenda, with no agreement or consensus from other editors. — Puppy Mill 12:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- English-only movement → Official English movement —(Discuss)— Official English is the proper and accurate name for this movement. "English-only" is the name given the movement by its detractors. — Puppy Mill 12:58, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
