Hello, I'm Oshwah. I noticed that in this edit to Presidency of Donald Trump, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Misplaced Pages with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~ 01:13, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Misplaced Pages articles, as you did to Presidency of Donald Trump. Doing so violates Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. ~Oshwah~ 01:19, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Presidency of Donald Trump. This contravenes Misplaced Pages's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. - Mlpearc (open channel) 01:46, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I removed a left wing pundit's opinion statement. It was a clear violation of NPOV and didn't belong in an article on a presidency.

I also added content about negotiations over air force one and F-35 program costs as well as additional facts and figures to that section including: poverty rate and labor participation rate. The citation needed tag exists for a reason and all of these facts are widely reported. The article is less good now and more biased.

Speedy deletion nomination of Line the Label

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Line the Label requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. What is this, "delete all of FloridaArmy's work week", or something? I have added a bunch of sources and beefed up the article so I don't think it will get deleted now. If I can expand a bit more, it should be good for a Did you know? nomination on the front page - the problem is a lot of the news coverage that's easy to hand is from the Daily Mail which should be avoided. Megalibrarygirl, can you help? (and I must apologise again for pinging you for help in improving a biography of a woman yet again, but you're so damn good at it....) Deletion discussion about Line the Label

Hello, FloridaArmy,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Line the Label should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Line the Label .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

Speedy deletion nomination of Andrew D. Goldstein

Hello FloridaArmy,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Andrew D. Goldstein for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Roy Moore

You seem to be overlooking the editing restrictions on Roy Moore. If you insert content, and that content is reverted, you are not allowed to re-insert it until you obtain firm consensus on the talk page. You have violated this restriction with the Moore's military service which you have placed into the lead twice. You also moved the sexual allegations out of the lead, against the existing consensus documented on the talk page. I recommend that, before making substantial changes, especially to the lead, you discuss your proposed edits on the talk page.- MrX 22:10, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Mr. X, thanks for the note. Another editor said they were reworking a redundancy in their edit summary. But the military service and training got removed. Doesn't that belong in the intro? I don't think I removed anything related to the sexual allegations. I did subsection them without even moving them anywhere, as the details were quite long and violate standard for an introduction. The article is a bit of a mess frankly. Key sentences summarizing what in the body of the entry should be in the first paragraphs. As it's a topical subject I inderstand people maybe keep adding bits and pieces to that are already in the article body instead of summarizing. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:19, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
I don't think the military service is a substantial biographical point, but why not bring it up on the talk page to see what others think? I have advocated for trimming the third paragraph, but not moving it entirely out of the lead. The sexual abuse allegations should be a major point covered in the lead per WP:DUEWEIGHT. If you look back a few weeks ago on the talk page, there was a discussion about this and the consensus was to keep it in the lead.-MrX 23:05, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

Frank Cox (architect)

Hallo, Thanks for starting this article. When you create an article with a "disambiguation" in its title, like this, please remember to make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name: in this case it needed an entry in the disambiguation page at Frank Cox (I've done it), sometimes it will need a WP:Hatnote on the one article with that name. Either way, it helps the reader to find the article, and makes it less likely that another editor will create a duplicate article at a slightly different title because they haven't found this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing! PamD 18:57, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

And it's also useful to create redirects, or hatnotes, or dab page entries, for other versions of his name - I've made a redirect from Tignal Franklin Cox and added a hatnote at Franklin Cox. You never know which version of a name will be used: things like formal lists of award winners often use the full name and redirects like these can turn long-standing redlinks blue! PamD 19:02, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
Very true. I had meant to do that. Thanks very much PamD.
I started two article on Maureen Callahan and I'm not sure how to properly disambiguate. The job I did for West Kingston may also need improvement. Thanks for any help you can provide. Happy Holidays. FloridaArmy (talk) 19:04, 7 December 2017 (UTC)
I've spent far too much time on your two Maureens - got a bit carried away. Remember to look for sources for everything. For books there's the useful template {{ISBN}} which turns an ISBN into a link to a page which links to library catalogs etc: gives a good source for the book. On Kingston, I see you created the dab page (and that the RI one was previously inaccessible): good. Remember that references ought to include dates, both the date of publication and if online the date you checked the website: I've upgraded one of your refs but the others could be improved. Ah, on looking, I see you didn't actually provide any refs at all. Please try to get into the habit of giving sources for everything you ever add to the encyclopedia: it makes your additions much less likely to be deleted. Happy Editing! PamD 21:03, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

PamD is there an automated or semiautomated way to get the mwntions of Dexta Daps to link to the article? I see he his mentioned in 8-10 articles. Thanks for any tips. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:34, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of RDX (reggae duo)

The article RDX (reggae duo) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Misplaced Pages:General notability guideline and the more detailed Misplaced Pages:Notability (biographies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of "Emily Steel"

Emily Steel, a page you created, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content that complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content, or remove the speedy deletion tag from the page. You can contest the deletion by clicking the "Contest this speedy deletion" button inside the speedy deletion tag. Speedy deletion nomination of Harry Litman

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Harry Litman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://law.ucla.edu/faculty/faculty-profiles/harry-litman/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Misplaced Pages to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Misplaced Pages's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. reddogsix (talk) 03:37, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Chauncey B. Seaton

The article Chauncey B. Seaton has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I find no evidence of WP:NOTABILITY. Virtually no coverage beyond mentions crediting him as the architect of that one building.

Misplaced Pages and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello FloridaArmy, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. All or some of your addition(s) to Harry Litman have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Misplaced Pages, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. CAPTAIN RAJU 16:09, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry to have had to delete the article, as it was still too close to the original text - have a look at Misplaced Pages:Close paraphrasing for more information. It's often suggested that a good way to use sources to develop a Misplaced Pages article is to read the sources, make notes from them (perhaps bullet-point notes, but not copying full sentences), then come back a little later and write the article from your notes, completely in your own words. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 19:13, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Boing. Can you please retrieve the first paragraph and the sources for me? I would like to use those to start the article anew. Thanks. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:07, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
Actually, yes, the first paragraph looks OK, so I've restored just that (and the two sources) at Harry Litman. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:13, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks very much. I appreciate it. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:15, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Owen Shroyer

Hi! However you may feel about Shroyer, it is important that we maintain WP:BLP. The Salon article you are linking to raises conspiracy theories in regard to InfoWars, but doe snot specifically state that Shroyer is pushing conspiracy theories. Accordingly, we can't claim that he is. Similarly, we can't say that he "railed" against the HPV vaccine, as the wording is not neutral. That said, there's no real chance that this will survive deletion, so it is probably better just to keep it simple and uncontroversial until it is deleted in a couple of days. - Bilby (talk) 12:36, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

From the source: "A voice over the disturbing footage screams: “I am not a slave. You cannot force me to inject my kid with this poison. This is sick!”
"That voice belongs to Owen Shroyer, a reporter for Infowars, the right-wing, conspiracy theory–laden “news” site. He’s anchoring a classic Infowars health segment, featuring a passionate rant against mainstream medicine. In this case, the subject is a favorite on Infowars: “vaccines and the damages they do to our youth.”
"When Shroyer appears onscreen again, his face is flushed and twisted in rage. “You know what? I’m sorry — but F you! Okay?” he says, squinting at the camera. “F you if you’re going to sit here and watch a video of young girls literally convulsing because of a vaccine that you say is safe and effective. F you! You’re disgusting.”"
Stating he railed against HPV vaccines is accuarate based on this source. Based on this source I would say it is inaccurate to say he argues against the HPV vaccine. You've also removed that he advocates consiparacy theories despite that fact being supported by this source and the slate one you removed. I also object to citations discussing the subject being removed during a deletion discussion. That's not constructive. FloridaArmy (talk) 12:47, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
There's an argument that he "Railed", but to keep things safe it is better to avoid loaded language. It is especially important to be careful wherever we have strong opinions about the subject, as it is easy to let the wording go too far. As to the Salon article, in spite of the title it doesn't specifically say that Shroyer is pushing conspiracy theories, so per BLP I'm going to err on the side of caution. It would make no difference at the AfD either way, as the single passing mention in that article is not enough to have an impact on notability.
We need to be overly cautious where living people are concerned, due to Misplaced Pages's visibility and the risk of harm. - Bilby (talk) 13:12, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Being accurate is what's important. And he's not just mentioned in these sources, but discussed at some length. See here for yet another example. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:26, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
"Welcome in to The Alex Jones Show folks. It’s amazing, here we are, so much news and the news is so big and the news is so frequent that the biggest news every day becomes a back-page story the next day. The Las Vegas massacre cover-up, nothing. The JFK files being declassified, Hitler still alive. All the history textbooks lied to us. I was lied to my entire life about JFK, knowingly, by my government. I was lied to my entire life about Hitler, knowingly, by my government. And that’s just a nonstory now because you’ve got another radical truck running people down in the streets." - Owen Shroyer
BLP violation to identify him as a promoter of conspiracy theories? Ridiculous. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:32, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
The new sourcing is better - not ideal, but it doesn't have to survive long, so let's let it be. Emotive language remains a problem, so while "railed" might be a reasonable interpretation, something less emotive will fit better with NPOV, so I'm inclined to change it back. Given that I can't see it surviving AfD at the moment, it doesn't matter a great deal, but a more NPOV article is always a better choice where living people are concerned. - Bilby (talk) 06:38, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for creating Alton H. Blackington, FloridaArmy!

Misplaced Pages editor Blythwood just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

I think you had the wrong date of death? All the sources seem to say 1963. Anyway, clearly notable and I've marked the article as patrolled.

UMass seems to have dated their photo collection from Blackington from 1898-1943 and I seem to have mistook the end date as his death. I wonder why they obly have photos up to 1943. Anyway, thanks again. FloridaArmy (talk) 01:09, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Kissimmee River Railway

I reviewed the page, but I also noticed that there is no Polk County in Florida, and that the two points which the railway is supposed to connect do not have Misplaced Pages articles (given the coverage of the US localities, it means they do not exist). Pls correct. Thank you.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:49, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Ymblanter: I'm sure I've driven through Polk County, Florida. Also see Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Trains/ICC valuations/Kissimmee River Railway. Walinwa certainly existed and FloridaArmy created Nalaka, Florida, both being short-lived turpentine communities. Doug Weller talk 15:22, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
FA, have you used this as a source anywhere? And while you are creating towns, how about one for Glenwood in Volusia County where my Great grandmother lived? Its only road was a shell road when i was a child. I might even have photos. Doug Weller talk 15:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I must be blind since I checked Polk County and could not find Florida there. I will now repair the disambigs if there are still some left in the article.--Ymblanter (talk) 15:38, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
@Ymblanter: not to worry, I've made similar mistakes. Doug Weller talk 16:09, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Elmhurst, Long Island

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Elmhurst, Long Island requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Boleyn (talk) 07:08, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

I blanked that page for deletion. A source I was using has all the photos labeled Elmhurst, L.I., but it seems to be on Queens. :) FloridaArmy (talk) 07:10, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:00, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm deprodding it. 1) Lentz is extensively cited. I believe this established notability to Misplaced Pages standards. And 2) he is included in an an existing encyclopedia which also established his notability. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:02, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
FloridaArmy Then provide sources for these numerous "citations." Encyclopedia.com is in no way coverage of this person in this case. There is nothing in-depth about it. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Please also see WP:NAUTHOR. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
My understansing is that an entry in a reputable encyclopedia establishes notability. As I noted above, the extent to which this scholar is cited also seems to qualify him as notable. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:14, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
FloridaArmy That "entry" is the equivalent of a directory listing and thus not useful when establishing notability. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:17, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Notability isn't supposed to be based on the quality of the article. It's not a subject I am very interested in but it certainly seems notable. Quite a bit of work has been done to it already. In mainspace anyone and everyone can contribute. FloridaArmy (talk) 17:07, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
No, but it is supposed to v=be based upon how much the subject receives operate coverage. The coverage is about the people, not the station.Slatersteven (talk) 17:21, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
It the Owen Shroyer deletion discussion you suggested a merge. I noted that there is too much to merge. This is why we have separate articles for independently notable subjects. The Alex Jones article is another example where it's become unwieldy and too long covering too many notable subjects. That's why it's better to split up a combined article for independently notable subjects once it cannot cover each appropriately. FloridaArmy (talk) 17:26, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at User talk:Jimbo Wales shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. --Guy Macon (talk) 05:16, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

FloridaArmy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) made an edit talking about someone named "Matt Margolis", claiming that he has been "here on Misplaced Pages for years". I reverted the edit because there is no Misplaced Pages user named User:Matt Margolis and no article on Matt Margolis ( I am assuming that he is referring to the author of .) He then appeared to be starting an edit war, so I gave him the standard warning template so he could stop the behavior before getting blocked for it. He was also warned by another editor. I must admit I am mildly curious about what FloridaArmy is talking about. It does not appear that anyone named "Matt Margolis" has anything to do with Misplaced Pages. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:02, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

No, I made a comment linking to a deleted article page of a Conservative author where the content Douchebag is clearly visible providong an example of the hostile and biased editing environment here on Misplaced Pages. Your threats, templating, and repeated removals of my talk page comment provide further evidence of how sick Misplaced Pages is. FloridaArmy (talk) 06:17, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Seriously? An administrator deletes a page with the content of "Douchebag" in 2005 and you are complaining because he gave the reason why he deleted the page? What would you have preferred? Would you have liked it if the admin kept the article? Would you have liked it if the admin had deleted the article without saying why? Surely you can find a better example than a 13-year-old deletion of some childish vandalism.
BTW, it is rather late in the game for you to reveal what your actual complaint is. I'm just saying. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:58, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
Obviously, nobody's page should feature the word douchebag as a slur attacking them. I don't think it should require explanation any more than not removing people's talk page comments repeatedly and then templating them with blocking threats for restoring their comment should need to be pointed out as . I don't have any interest in discussing these issues with you any further here. Once someone has demonstrated that they are I would rather them stay off my talkpage. Thanks. Speedy deletion nomination of The White Company (retailer)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The White Company (retailer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages.

Speedy deletion nomination of Carmona,Cpsta Rica

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. This is a notice that Carmona,Cpsta Rica, a page that you created, has been tagged for deletion. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Misplaced Pages has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Misplaced Pages:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
  • It covers a topic on which we already have an article - Carmona, Costa Rica. (See section A10 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Carmona, Costa Rica, or to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

DS violation on Donald Trump

Your recent edits changed the wording "He ordered a travel ban on citizens from several Muslim-majority countries, citing security concerns; the ban was partially implemented after legal challenges" to, well, something else. Discretionary sanctions specify that you may not undo edits against consensus. You have been notified of these (it's up above on your talk page). There is a big ol' notice on the talk under "Open RfCs and surveys" in a box labeled "Current consensus" which specifically states that the original wording has consensus. So please don't mess with this sentence.Volunteer Marek (talk) 05:53, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

The text you reverted to links to the wrong executive order. The initial one (that I linked to) was referred to as the Muslim travel ban. The revised and expanded one includes other countries and restrictions. Here's the diff. I made sure a link to the revised travel ban is also included in the same sentence. FloridaArmy (talk) 05:59, 14 January 2018 (UTC) FloridaArmy (talk) 05:59, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Bring it up on talk.Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:01, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Why? Fixing an incorrect link should be uncontroversial. What is your objection? FloridaArmy (talk) 06:10, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
More generally please stop editing the lede as the wording has been worked out with a view towards consensus over months. Pretty much any changes that are not obviously non-controversial are a DS violation. This is your last warning.Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:04, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Do you object to linking to the correct executive orders? If so, why? FloridaArmy (talk) 06:12, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
You also reworded the sentence and switched the orders around. Bring it up on talk.Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:15, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Can you please restore the correct executive orders to the article? The links as you have them do not make sense.
Also, why do you think saying "his campaign received a lot of free media coverage" as you do here is helpful? I understand he got the extra attention but that isn't noted. Just a meaningless statement that a campaign got media attention. As I noted, there is an article on the campaign where you can explain what you're trying to say. FloridaArmy (talk) 06:21, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Here is a convenient link to the talk page.Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:24, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Why can't you answer here on my talk page where you posted a "violation" notice? You reverted the edits so I think it's fair to ask for an explanation. I've explained my reasoning in the edit summaries and again here. FloridaArmy (talk) 06:28, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Yuya Kiuchi

Hello, FloridaArmy. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Yuya Kiuchi, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Deletion discussion about Amandine Ohayon

Hello, FloridaArmy,

Proposed deletion of Roman Szporluk

The article Roman Szporluk has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Misplaced Pages policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Please remember that Misplaced Pages is an international encyclopedia. You began this article with "Michael Barry is the National Security Council's senior director for intelligence programs", but many countries have a "National Security Council". If an article is about the United States you need to say so. (OK in this case the title gave a clue, but the lead of the article needs the info.) Thanks. PamD 09:01, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Shlomo Ben-Tzvi

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Shlomo Ben-Tzvi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ICLEI on New California page

Well, I don't think the first source you listed is about it in the first place. Also, I think the New California article needs to be just about the state, not about people involved. The only place I can see it fitting is in some sort of history section that talks about Preston, etc.

It also doesn't quite seem to fit in with WP:NPOV. Even if he does believe that about the environmentalist organization, the section makes the New California movement seem to be organized by conspiracy theorists.SelfieCity (talk) 03:35, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Postmaster (occupation)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Postmaster (occupation). First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Postmaster#History. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Postmaster#History. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. PamD 18:36, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation splits

FloridaArmy, when creating stub splits like at Kuvan, could you please take care to a) correctly insert a topic redirect using template {{about}}, and b) actually provide some suitable sources? I've come upon several of these creation now that fail in both regards. You should know by now that creating unreferenced stubs is at best careless and likely a timesink for everyone else. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 19:05, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for tips. I am working on the article as we speak. Still learning. Thanks. Sorry it's taking a bit to sort out. FloridaArmy (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Following up on this, you should always check the "what links here" on the toolbar (e.g. Pages that link to Kuvan), to make sure that you are not disrupting massive amounts of incoming links, and seek to retarget those links to the correct article. If there are many incoming links, that redirect might be a primary topic, and so in some cases something like Kuvan (disambiguation) might be warranted, or moving the Asian riverbed article to Kuvan (riverbed) if the drug name is most common. In this case only BioMarin Pharmaceutical needs to be adjusted, which I've already done. Replacing a redirect with an article or disambiguation page is called usurping a title. See WP:USURPTITLE for more tips. --Animalparty! (talk) 00:09, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Bare URLs

Hello. I've left notices twice regarding your use of bare URLs for references, yet you continue to create new articles with them. This is problematic for several reasons. First, it obscures the actual source, i.e. author, title, and publication info, and hinders verification. Second, it makes the reference susceptible to link rot: if the hosting website modifies URLs (which happens often), the URL would likely go to a 404 not found, or other dead end. Lastly, it looks atrocious. A reference section like the one seen here is virtually illegible. Note that some people print out articles, or save them as PDFs. A URL is not the same as a reference: the URL is simply an address to find that reference. As an analogy, a reference might be a book, and the URL a set of directions that guides you to your local library, the correct floor, exact shelf, and exact spot on that shelf to find the book. But if the book is moved, the directions are useless. Knowing the bibliographic data of the book itself allows retrieval even if the book is moved (e.g. finding it in a different library). There are several tools available that allow you to easily convert bare URLs to citations. First, if you're editing using VisualEditor, you can simply click "Cite" and paste a URL or DOI. Secondly, if you're editing the source code, you can use Edit toolbar to autofill references, and use the citation tool for Google Books. Lastly, you can use the reFill tool to convert bare references after an edit is saved (however, this tool sometimes results in less complete citations, e.g. omitting date or author(s)). See Citing sources for more complete information. Being transparent with sources right off the bat might alo help avoid premature deletion debates or speedy deletion tags. All the best, --Animalparty! (talk) 21:28, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Animalparty I absolutely agree with everything you've said and I very much appreciate the time you've taken to explain. I understand that bare urls are a big frustration. I'm still learning and I'm on my phone so editing isn't always super easy, for instance flipping back and forth between pages to try and get things correct. I have not mastered many of the formatting intricacies here. If I had infinite time I would consider learning all these skills, and I would try to get everything up to snuff and perfected. Also, In my defense, I would like to point out that Misplaced Pages is a collaborative effort. I try to help out in various areas. But I can't and sometimes won't do everything. I tried to use the disambig tool earlier today and couldn't get it to work properly so I did it the old fashioned way. A lot of editors are sticklers for cites so I try to use them but a properly written article involves summarizing and other editorial skills that sometimes come in conflict with citing every bit. For example, content that is not in a cite shouldn't be cited. But when writing an article and putting subject matter into our own words, it's often useful to put information together and meld it. I'm trying to avoid saying synthesize which I know is another big no no. My point is that my main focus is on trying to make articles readable, cogent, and accurate. There are lots of great articles here without cites and lots of terrible articles with lots of them. I certainly try to use them even if I don't always (ever?) format them. But as far as link rot, cites that link to content no longer available online are impractical for the average reader as are sources behind paywalls. I absolutrly agree that well formatted cites are useful and contain important information including assisting more seriois reseaeches in accessing informationnthat may no longer be availabke online. But my point is that it is not a perfect world and I am not a perfect editor. If formatting cites is easy, I am happy to let those who have mastered it have at it. I don't find it easy. I find it time consuming and frustrating. I find it to be a distraction from getting the content correct, well organized, and properly written. I'm sure I haven't dissuaded you one bit, but like Abraham Lincoln I cannot tell a lie. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:13, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I understand there is limited functionality with mobile editing. When I'm on mobile, the easiest tool is the reFill, in which you only have to paste in the article name, and the tool does the rest (it does however risk losing data, i.e. relatively old dead-urls that may have clues to title or date often get replaced with a link to the main page if the specific link can't be retrieved). The problem of link rot can be overcome with full citation: if one link is dead, a reader or editor can use the other info to find a replacement URL, or physical copy. As for certain sources being behind paywalls, that is perfectly fine, just as certain sources may be offline (like books!). Just like in printed works (or the "old days", say prior to 2000), a bibliography merely needs to direct the reader where to find other sources, it doesn't assume anything about the reader's access to sources. Per WP:PAYWALL, quality sources should not be avoided just because they require subscription or effort to obtain. Ad yes, Misplaced Pages is a collaboration, but not everyone can monitor every article, and houses don't build themselves. In general though, thanks for your contributions. they've been largely positive, and sorry if I come across as nit picking. There are a lot of tools, tips, and rules to learn. Happy editing! --Animalparty! (talk) 23:00, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
I will give refill a try. Thanks for your patience and understanding. I hate sources behind paywalls and it's totally bogus when other sources exist that are accessible. I have it on my lost to try some sort of news media resoirce2 for Misplaced Pages editing that another editor suggested byt haven't gotten around to to it just yet. Here's a tip

Hi FloridaArmy, no hard feelings about Al Hester, I hope? If you're still working on an article, and you would like to make sure it doesn't get AfD'd while you're still adding sources, you can add the template {{In creation}} at the top of the page. Please make sure to remove it when you're done. Also handy are {{Under construction}} and {{In use}}. Mduvekot (talk) 22:19, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

No hard feelings at all Mduvekot. I found you to be very collegial understanding and responsive. I do try to use under construction templates but I don't like to leave then up too long and I appreciate any helo I can get. I was glad Hester turned out to be notable. I was using one of his works as a source and I was wondering who he was. Nothing on here so I creared an article. It took a while to work it up but I got some helo. Sometimes a subject still gets deleted if it doesn't meet with guidelines and such, I think IAR and keeping in mind what's best for the encyclopedia and its readers is too often lost sight of, but those are just my opinions I'm sharing as I've been spending some time in the Articles for Deletion space. Take care and please let me know if I can be of any assistance on anything. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:27, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages.

When editing Misplaced Pages, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Which edit or edits are you referring to? FloridaArmy (talk) 16:34, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
FloridaArmy, most of your edits do not have any edit summary. Best practice is to always use an edit summary, except for trivial edits correcting spelling or punctuation. This is especially true when you are editing controversial articles.- MrX 🖋 18:58, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
@MrX: I take exception to their being any exceptions to providing a useful edit summary. Even for spelling-only or punctuation-only edits, include "sp" or "punc" as the edit summary and check the "minor edit" box. —EncMstr (talk) 20:30, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I guess that would be a better description of best practice. Except for the few times I forget, the only times I do not use an edit summary is when editing my own user page or a subpage.- MrX 🖋 20:37, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Tip: I had to turn on "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing so that I no longer forget to provide an edit summary. Mduvekot (talk) 22:38, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Nomination of J. Murray Hoag for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article J. Murray Hoag is suitable for inclusion in Misplaced Pages according to Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/J. Murray Hoag until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Chetsford (talk) 00:54, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey FloridaArmy, Are you following that discussion? It is looking like several different people are likely being conflated here, and then mentioned in another article as well. This is really something to be careful of. Do you have anything to comment there? LadyofShalott 02:29, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
I'm following it. I'm not convinced they are different people at all. At least the main character seems to be same. It is possible there was another J.M. Hoag who served in the Civil War but he seems to have died in 1864. Why do you think an anti-slavery member of a family of Quakers who os named after his grandfather so used his middle name couldn't have moved to the midwest after the war and opened a photo shop and then raised ponies? Seems entirely reasonable and conaistent with the connections I'm seeing. Did he change his name at some point or attempt to dissasociate with his grandfather? Who was apparently known for hisCivil War "vision"? All the family ties and connections I see support the article and the pony connection. I tried to follow Chets link but it was just a general National Register page with no relevant info on it. Regardless, with or without the Shwtland ponies and perhaps some photography thrown in, a Brevet Col. Commander who captained the 4th Colored troops and then served in supervisory and important roles in the Freedmen Bureau seems very important to me. Saving Savannah has a dozen or so pages on him based on the index. Chet rushes to delete articles and then complains they aren't perfect. Rome wasn't built in a day. Not everything is online. The Hoag family was from N.Y. so it makes sense he would have started in military service there. Did he then transfer to command colored troops? Why not? What evidence is there that this is a different person? All the evidence i see from names to family connections makes the connwctions. FloridaArmy (talk) 03:33, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Thank you for creating Madison Davis! I have had that on a list of pages that need creation for a long time, but never actually took the time to do it. It is high time he had an article. LadyofShalott 01:16, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
When I'm at work tomorrow, I'm going to try to remember to run grab a copy of Michael Thurmond's book, A story untold : Black men and women in Athens history to borrow and see if I can help the article some with it. LadyofShalott 01:28, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
That would be terrific. Thank you very much for your kindness. Some very interesting and also troubling historical subjects. Timely. FloridaArmy (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi

Just a reminder that WP articles must be supported by WP:RS. In the article Joseph Hoag I removed this -

"His grandson J. Murray Hoag fought for the U.S. Army during the Civil War, served in the Freedmen Bureau, and raised Shetland ponies in Iowa."

- as there was no source. You then added it back in, still with no source . I assume that may have been an accident so have gone ahead and removed it again, however, I've opened up a discussion on the article's Talk page in case you feel there's an WP:IAR reason this unsourced statement should remain in the article. Thanks! Chetsford (talk) 06:46, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Joseph Murray Hoag's service is well documented in his article. Jist port over the sources. What exactly are yoi disputing? FloridaArmy (talk) 06:48, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Great! Just add the source to the Joseph Hoag article that says Joseph Hoag had a grandson name J. Murray Hoag who raised Shetland ponies and we should be all set then! Chetsford (talk) 06:50, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
It doesnt have to be in one source. There are sources discussing his father and grandfather and their Quaker activities. Sources discussing his father's move to Iowa. Sources discussing his milotary service and soirces discussing his activities in Iowa. His brother and sister are prominent also. FloridaArmy (talk) 06:55, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Hey FloridaArmy - do you have a source to support the statement "His grandson J. Murray Hoag fought for the U.S. Army during the Civil War, served in the Freedmen Bureau, and raised Shetland ponies in Iowa." you could add to the article? Chetsford (talk) 06:57, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

  • Hmmm. @EncMstr:, maybe I'm missing something here, but blocking a user seems like a somewhat excessive reaction to not using edit summaries. Sure, they're a good idea, recommended practice, etc, but not using them doesn't seem block-worthy to me. -- RoySmith (talk) 02:00, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi EncMstr, I completely agree with RoySmith here. I strongly encourage people to use edit summaries, but I do not think lack of their use merits a block. This is obviously an editor trying (and generally succeeding) to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. Please reconsider. LadyofShalott 02:44, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
  • I have undone the block as no way is not doing edit summaries block worthy. Plus there last discussion has no warning of a potential block. Very poor form EncMstr - you may have been an admin 10 years but you clearly have no understanding of what constitutes blockworthy behavior. Please don’t block again without checking your reasoning with a sensiblenthird party. FloridaArmy, you do need edit summaries though. Please start using or ask me if you need help.. 06:40, 8 February 2018 (UTC) Spartaz 06:41, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
  • If the community wants edit summaries to be mandatory please update the edit summary page to say that. And if it's something one can be blocked for then the policy page should say that as well. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:53, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

And for the record I always try to include an edit summary if I am reverting someone of making an edit that I think is likely to be controversial. Most of my edits have been writing entries and doing very straightforward fixes. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:56, 8 February 2018 (UTC) The editing policy says "Preserve appropriate content. As long as any facts or ideas would belong in an encyclopedia, they should be retained in Misplaced Pages." Yet facts are deleted all the time despite being properly sourced and encyclopedic. Clearly editors are allowed to edit without adhering to policy. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:21, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

  • Now that we've got you editing again, I'll also request that you make regular use of edit summaries. I know it can be a pain, but it makes it easier for other people to scan down an article's history page and see what's been changed. Many of my edit summaries are no more than "copyedit", which means, "I changed some text, but didn't add or subtract any substantial facts". Lots of people just use the abbreviation "ce" for that. Again, it's not something you should be blocked for not using, but in a collaborative project, it's good to strive for a quality level that's better than just, won't get me voted off the island. -- RoySmith (talk) 16:04, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Interesting. Thanks. The trith is I'm often juggling ideas and wording and trying not to mess up. If I'm building am article it's one more thing to deal with. And I'm often makong multiple different types of changes and trying to keep things straight. You'll see I'm being threatened now for including conflicting information from two different sources without organizing and clarifying the content and for messing up a date. So it's dicey out there. My cursor and be jumpy. I have fat fingers. I'm kist trying to stay alive. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:40, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

I've been using a mix of Misplaced Pages:Using WebCite and Misplaced Pages:The Misplaced Pages Library/Citoid. Neither of these does exactly what I want, but they get me most of the way there. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:21, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Jimfbleak I tried it for this page but I get an error that the page wasn't found. Hmm.. Maybe I use the page name.and not a web address? I will try that.. FloridaArmy (talk) 17:34, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
  • That didn't work either. I will take a look again when Ibhave more time. FloridaArmy (talk) 17:35, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
  • I got it to work. I think the problem was that the Js in the John J. Knox page title are a different font? I tried moving it but it says it's the same page. I might have cut and pasted the name so I wouldn't muck up spelling but maybe it threw the fontage off kilter? Also, when I use that citing page it seems to kick me back to Misplaced Pages not in desktop mode. And just switching back to desktop mode doesn't work. It's some weird Wiki desktop version. I have to go back to the main page and switch there. Just FYI.. FloridaArmy (talk) 18:16, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of George Wallace (Georgia)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on George Wallace (Georgia) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ♥Yexstorm2001♥ (talk) 20:33, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

List Defined References for George Wallace (Georgia)

Would you have any objection if I converted this page to use WP:LDR? I think it makes it a lot easier to maintain the page. -- RoySmith (talk) 21:07, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Nope. None at all. I would be happy to leave all the formatting of references to others, but I've gotten a several requests / complaints so I'm trying to learn how to do them. Thanks for your help!!! FloridaArmy (talk) 21:33, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Done. There's plusses and minuses to this format, but my (current) opinion is that it makes it easier to edit the article because you've got the text in one place without the references cluttering it up so much that you can't read anything. -- RoySmith (talk) 21:42, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
RoySmith what do you think the most appropriate title for the article would be? Are you happy with George Wallace (Georgia)? George Wallace (disambiguation) will need to be disambiguated. FloridaArmy (talk)

21:36, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

How about George Wallace (19th century politician)? I think that would be better than the current name. -- RoySmith (talk) 01:47, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
That would definitely work. I'd love a title that better distinguished the subject from the other George Wallace. I dunno. I understand one was 19th century the other 2pth and one in Goergia the other in Alabama, but still. :) FloridaArmy (talk) 23:31, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
I suppose I'm just showing my lack of depth in American history, but I didn't even realize that George Wallace was from Alabama, not Georgia. I think most people will realize that George Wallace was not from the 19th century, so that's a better disambiguator. You should be able to move the page yourself; the instructions are at Misplaced Pages:Moving_a_page#How_to_move_a_page. If you have any problems, ping me. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:20, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Please actually proofread what you write

Hello. Once again, thanks for your contributions. I can tell you have an obvious interest in history and enthusiasm for bringing to wider awareness topics that are not well known. However, I have now reviewed three articles by you and every single one has contained an obvious, easy-to-spot mistake. George Wallace (Georgia) claimed that "On September 12, 1828 the Georgia State Senate voted to exclude members with mixed heritage"–even with my limited knowledge of American history I could tell that that you probably meant a date in the Reconstruction period, and indeed ten seconds on Google confirmed that you meant 1868.

I know doing everything right isn't always easy, but please actually review what you write. Misplaced Pages is a collaborative project and if you feel that a topic is one you care about but that you don't really have time to do a complete article, you are quite free to ask for one to be written. Blythwood (talk) 22:42, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

And yet another case where you haven't actually read or thought about what you are copying and pasting. John Charnock according to you studied at Trinity College, Oxford in your second paragraph and Merton College, Oxford, half a mile away, in the fifth! This mess isn't your doing–a reprinted edition of his work says Trinity, an obituary says Merton. Presumably he attended one of them or both, but neither source says he attended both. That's not a problem, sources disagree or make mistakes, but you should really have noticed the contradiction, perhaps by saying something like "Trinity (according to source X) and/or Merton (according to Y)" rather than copying and pasting material first from one source into one paragraph, and then from another into another paragraph, without stopping to convert the article into a finished text in chronological or thematic order. Misplaced Pages requires editors to display competence in their actions and I have not yet seen you do anything but misunderstand, copy-paste and skim-read sources you show no signs of understanding. This is your final warning: start taking accuracy seriously or my next action will be a block request. Blythwood (talk) 21:19, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
And I find your Reverse-contrast typefaces article rather poorly written. But I am glad you've been able to catch some of my mistakes. I definitely make a lot. Especially on new articles. I find it takes time to iron them out and I'm always glad to have assistance. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:37, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
I completely understand this, and goodness knows I've made mistakes on here and had the benefit of attentive readers, many with a long lifetime of topic knowledge, who can improve my phrasing and spot my slips. What you should do is put an article in draftspace, on your sandbox, and go through checks and improvements to it until it reaches the point that it's ready to be put on public view.
Publishing an article on here is a statement in itself that it's finished, done, complete, validated, checked, something you would be happy for people to read to assess your competence. This is important because Misplaced Pages is very often the first, only thing people read on a topic if there's an article present, since it floats to the top of search engines. A false, inaccurate, copy-pasted article is worse than no article at all since people will read it instead of looking at more accurate sources. If you 'definitely make a lot' of mistakes, that's a sign that you should be going back over articles in a week or two with fresh eyes before they are published. Misplaced Pages has done perfectly well without an article on State Senator Wallace for fifteen years, it can wait another couple of days. Blythwood (talk) 00:07, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
What alternative source do you think covers him better? Where would you have readers go to learn about him?
I reject the idea that articles should be put up finished. Early input on notability, titling, existing articles that may cover the subject better, and allowing the community to work up a subject in collaboration seems to me to be at core of what makes a Wiki so successful.
Finally, I would suggest if my writing and editing annoys or upsets you simply avoid working on articles I'm creating. One of the freat things about Misplaced Pages is that there are lots of subjects to work and new pages and old pages and yet yet to be written pages to work on. I think being in conflict is generally unpleasant for all involved. There are lots of bad articles so perhaps try to focus on the editors and articles you get enjoyment from working on. Take care. Have a great weekend. FloridaArmy (talk) 00:18, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Just FYI, I'm working on William Gaines (minister and community leader) and a source says "Over the years immediately following the Civil War, Rev. William Gaines and Rev. Wesley John Gaines established AME Churches across the state of Georgia, including the counties of Muscogee and Chattahoochee." It also gives the year of William Gaines death as 1865. So how was he working establishing chuech for 3 years after the Civil War if he died in 1865? Is that the wrong year of death? And where is Wills County, Georgia? Is it a misspelling? Is it a former county? There are always lots of wording issues and clarifications needed and contradictions and stylistic choices. Mistakes get made. FloridaArmy (talk) 00:48, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Regarding the above, nobody expects new articles in mainspace to be perfect. Many people find, however, that starting a new article as a Help:Userspace draft or in draftspace is useful. The rules for those spaces are much more relaxed. As long as what you put there isn't libel, or a copyright violation, nobody's going to complain. You can start with scattered notes, and (especially in your own userspace) proceed at your own pace. Then, once it's in some sort of decent shape (again, doesn't have to be perfect, or even complete), you can move it into mainspace. It can be useful (though not required) to go through the WP:Articles for creation to get some review first. I've got early drafts of articles that have been sitting around in my userspace for years. Most are no more than some rough ideas and sketches. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:05, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages Library card

Hey, I see you've been making a lot of articles, and some other users have pointed out some issues I won't bring up again, but I have something that might help! The Misplaced Pages Library Card might assist you in your page creation by adding solid sources from newspapers dating back to the eras your topics are about. I use it for almost every article I create and it helps greatly with finding some hard-to-find bits of information. The link is here: Misplaced Pages Library Card, and given your New page creation history you'll probably be approved to use newspapers.com and newspaperarchive.com if you request them. Just thought I'd let you know about this in case you didn't already know! SEMMENDINGER (talk) 23:01, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Semmendinger! Yes, I've been meaning to look into it. Smmurphy told me about it but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Proposed deletion of Montgomery Male Academy

The article Montgomery Male Academy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Former school. No sources that discuss it in detail

Fixed the references, otherwise the page looks good. Helpful tip for the future: When you find a reference with google books you can click on the right side bar "About this book" which will lead you to a book info page. While on the wikipedia editor, in the toolbar click "Cite" then "templates" and choose "cite book". Then just paste the URL from the new google page into the correct spot and hit the magnifying glass right next to it - all the book information will be filled in for you! You can use this tip on many other pages too, the magnifying glass icon will fill in refs for you very quickly, which is helpful for formatting :)

Proposed deletion of Augustus Robin

The article Augustus Robin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This person does not meet the notability standard.

In the future, when you locate a reference using Google Books kindly include basic information like the page number, year of publication, or even just the name of the book, using the "cite book" template rather than slapping up a 250-character bare URL with your search string included.

Also, please take care to correctly spell the titles of your references and include information by which they could possibly be checked or referenced in the future. For instance this-

John Smith Kendall's History of New Orlean

- doesn't really tell us what this is or how to locate it and, I suspect, spells "New Orleans" incorrectly on top of it.

This - WP:REFBEGIN - is a good source on referencing for beginners.

In the future please provide references in a form in which they could possibly be referenced by others. This reference -

"Houzeau's book on his experiences at the New Orleans Tribune"

- leaves no way by which it could ever be easily located. Is the name of the book "Houzeau's Book on His Experiences at the New Orleans Tribune", is it "Experiences at the New Orleans Tribune", is it something else entirely? When was it published? Who was the publisher?

"leaves no way by which it could ever be easily located." Are you sure? Did you try searching for it? FloridaArmy (talk) 15:05, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
I don't know if you had a chance to read WP:REFBEGIN yet but, generally, we like to add things like the title of the book, its publisher, year of publication, etc., as opposed to a general description of the book. For instance, if sourcing Stephen King's IT a good bibliographic reference would be something like "King, Stephen (1968). IT. New York: Bantam. p. 12" as opposed to "King's novel about a clown." Thanks! Chetsford (talk) 15:38, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

RAW

Hello Ma'az! There are two issues or problems with Wikileaks as a source. 1) it is a primary source of leaked documents. So when you add content from them you are doing original research rather than reporting what is in a secondary source reporting on what's in the documents. That said, I am fairly inclusive and tolerant of sleuthing but with regard to this document what is it? Emails? From who to who? And what I saw was a series of quotes or comments of unclear origin. So Wikileaks is the host site of the leaked document but what is the document and is it a reliable source? I hope that makes sense and is helpful. :) FloridaArmy (talk) 00:22, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I appreciate your input. But the main question in our mind is "Is WikiLeaks a reliable source."? I don't think just saying that they are emails makes it of less value. If your,my or anybody else's comments or emails are published by a Media news channel, that reference would be labelled authentic. The main question is "How reliable is WikiLeaks"? Should we ask this question on AN?  M A A Z   T A L K  08:29, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Ma'az who are the messages from? To? When were they sent? None of this was noted in the citation. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:22, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Walter Digges

Hi, I'm not sure what you were doing at Walter Digges but it is not acceptable. Feel free to reinstate the content if you can provide reliable sources. - Sitush (talk) 13:12, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

I was writing an article with the best sources and info available. I have never heard of Prabook. When you write an article you should explain what the subject is in the opening paragraph. Criminal Tribes Act fails in this respect. I also encourage you to consider whether your edits improve an article. You include a lot of controversial commentary uncited. This is a no, no. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:22, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
I haven't got a clue what you are on about, sorry. But Prabook is not a reliable source, as has been discussed at WP:RSN, and a huge chunk of what you wrote there was not supported by another source that you cited. - Sitush (talk) 01:46, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
I am sorry but after finding a couple more problems in your subsequent "sourcing", I reverted everything you did since my note here. I can appreciate that you would not know of the Prabook issue but you appear to have repeated the same general problem that I also highlighted, ie: dumping a citation at the end of a paragraph where the source at best only supports a minute part of it. That is not the way we work: if a source supports one sentence or whatever then we should put the citation against that sentence, not all of the paragraph. I could try to pick it all apart but I'm simply not in the mood to do so and you were using some sources that I cannot see but, quite plainly, getting it wrong on those that I can see.
Please try to take this on board as constructive criticism, not some life-defining moment. I still have no idea why you are referring to the Criminal Tribes thing and, yes, I too make mistakes from time to time, but I'm pretty sure the CTA is not one of them, nor most of my numerous contributions. - Sitush (talk) 02:01, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
You are still adding stuff back that is not sourced and sometimes inserting it in a manner that makes it a misrepresentation of an existing source. Furthermore, you are not providing necessary information, such as page numbers. This is despite the 3RR warning below. - Sitush (talk) 13:11, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Tag

Pls check this page , where two tags have been added on top the article despite more than 20 citations of reliable newspapers/websites such as BBC, Dawn, Express Tribune have been added. Instead of pointing out any specific unreliable source, a tag has been placed on top of the article to generalise it, effecting the whole article's credibility despite substantial citations attached. Please look into this. Thanks (103.228.156.33 (talk) 02:34, 3 March 2018 (UTC))

I see the issues are discussed on the talk page including a request that the tags be moved inline to better identify the contested content. Seems reasonable to me. Good luck! FloridaArmy (talk) 02:50, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Walter M. Digges shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war.

Craney Hill State Forest

Hi - I've enjoyed seeing your edits and new articles for the town of Henniker, New Hampshire. I'm wondering if you're a resident there. If so, would you know what's been going on at Craney Hill State Forest? I was adding coordinates to your article and looked at the air photos on Acme Mapper to confirm the neighboring gravel pits, and was very surprised to see that most of the forest property has been cleared and mined for gravel as well. Has there been any communication between New Hampshire Forests and Lands and the town of Henniker regarding this? Thanks, --Ken Gallager (talk) 16:30, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Ken. Thanks for the message. I'm a fan of New Hanpshire and its history but no expert. I would like to see all the state's state forests have article and I believe the WP:NGEO guideline states that protected areas are inherently notable. That being said, having lived out West I can report that government ownership or protective status is no guarantee of environmental conservation. Interesting that you're finding gravel pits at a State Forest. I'm afraid I can't add any insights but am interested in the issue and what yoir investigation incovers. Godspeed. Please let me know of I can help in any way. FloridaArmy (talk) 16:37, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Bill Steigerwald

The article Bill Steigerwald has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references.

If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. IffyChat -- 16:42, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

New articles

Hi. Please don't post stub articles without references as they are liable to get deleted. Your sandbox is for experiments. Deb (talk) 20:18, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Deb. Which article are you referring to? FloridaArmy (talk) 20:19, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
There were a few, such as Abbott State Forest, that you initially created without references, adding them in later. A lot of your articles on state forests still have no categories. Deb (talk) 12:11, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
I can certainly try to include an under construction template but I don't think a statement about an area being a state forest in New Hampshire is a bad start to an article. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:06, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Put at least the following lines at the bottom of each New Hampshire state forest article, please:

{{Protected Areas of New Hampshire}} ] {{NewHampshire-protected-area-stub}} You can copy these lines from edit mode; don't copy the "nowiki" tags. Thanks, --Ken Gallager (talk) 14:33, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Also, like I said in my reply to your message on my talk page, I don't recommend creating an article for every state forest. Some are just too small and don't have any published access descriptions. So far, the ones you've created that I've edited have been notable, in my opinion, except for Craney Hill and Ames. --Ken Gallager (talk) 14:36, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello. I can't find anything online about an Abbott State Forest in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and the article is currently referenced only by a Google Books search for the name. Are you sure you've got the name of the state forest right? Thanks, The Mighty Glen (talk) 15:04, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Yes. Not as large as Russell-Abbott State Forest. New Hampshire calls lots of protected areas "state forests" but many are donated lands owned by that state not the major parks or preserves implied by the name. Some are logged. Or used as nurseries. FloridaArmy (talk) 15:13, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
OK, but if it's a state forest, then there must be some mention of it somewhere. At the moment, you're continuing to create what are effectively unreferenced articles, by simply throwing on a Google Books search for the name inside ref tags. Dodge Brook State Forest is another example of this. Please slow down, and create good, well referenced stubs. There's no need to rush. The Mighty Glen (talk) 15:27, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
You say you can't find anything about Abbott on the other hand you criticize me and say the source I referenced from Google Books is just a link to a Google Books search. I haven't referenced any Google Books searches, I've referenced sources on Google Books that discuss the subject. If you couldn't find anything why are you criticizing me for the sources I've found? You also tagged one of my cites for failed verification but it absolutely states the area was logged "two or three years ago" for spruce. I'm sorry you aren't happy with my article work, I am always happy to receive suggestions or constructive criticism, but I'm not seeing the issie you're hitting at apart from what Ken Gallager noted above that there isn't a lot of coverage for some of these state forest areas. FloridaArmy (talk) 16:06, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
The broader issue for me is that we have a list of New Hampshire State Forests but it's just a list of state lands thate have the words State Forest in their names. They are no different than lots of other state owned lands with names that don't include the words state forest. I would like to clarify and perhaps do an article on the structure and history of NH state lands. It's true that the "state forests" aren't hugely notable and supposed they could be merged to articles about the areas or town where they're located, but as I read WP:NGEO, protected places and named georgraphic locations (natural features) are inherently notable. FloridaArmy (talk) 18:20, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
The guide states that natural features (such as forests, let's say) are "often notable", which is how we should be approaching it. I'm thinking references that discuss how to access a particular property would be an indication of notability, or any press coverage for whatever reason. Being listed in a database printout or in a master plan inventory, in my mind, is not automatically such an indication. --Ken Gallager (talk) 19:57, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. Although protected areas are said to be notable and I think I've sourced all the state forests I've wprked on to more than just to a directory list. If it pisses people off to work on them I can wprk on other articles. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:02, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
It seems reasonable to me to have articles on geographic features that are identified on maps and which can be sourced as far as their size, origin and designation. Some of their history is usually available as well or at least how they are used and function. FloridaArmy (talk) 20:04, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Categorize

You're still creating articles without categories and with inadequate referencing. Please use the sandbox until the articles are ready, or use an underconstruction template. Deb (talk) 20:28, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Deb, can you please point me to the policy page where it says articles have to be created in sandboxes and not in article space? I've read that editors are to be given time to work up articles. Are you doing that? There's also quite a lot of policy about Misplaced Pages being a Wiki and a collaborative enterprise. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:21, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Also, your userpage says you delete articles without warning. But if you read our policy pages they CLEARLY state that alternatives to deletion and discussions with article creators FIRST are the way to go. It seems you like to pick and cboose which guidelines to follow. I guess I do too. So we have that in common. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:24, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
That isn't the only form of repeated bad editing practice. I am becoming fed up of FloridaArmy not taking on board what people say. Look at the mess at Walter M. Digges, for example, and umpteen posts on this page. It is going to end in tears. - Sitush (talk) 20:52, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Yes by all means look at the article Sotush linked and the edit history. He has rendered the entry almost unreadable. Requests quotes from sources then removes them. Removes burial info cited to a source with an actual photo of the headstone as unreliable. This is what we deal with. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:20, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
You are becoming a timesink. Either listen to well-intentioned advice from people who have been doing this sort of thing for a lot longer than you or face the distinct possibility that your edits will come under intense scrutiny. You've done all sorts of "wrong" things just in the last week or so, including misrepresenting sources etc. It has to stop. - Sitush (talk) 21:59, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Diff please where I misrepresented a source. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:00, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
The article right now, up to the point where I have inserted the first {{cn}}. Then go back to the article immediately before my first edit and compared what you cited to p. 339 of the JHU book to what that book actually said. I could go on - it has been roughly 50% misrepresentation from the outset. - Sitush (talk) 00:49, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Augusta, Georgia

@FloridaArmy:, I started the Transportation in Augusta, Georgia page. That expanded the information that is on the Augusta, Georgia page's "Transportation" section, so only a brief blurb needs to be mentioned. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 00:21, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

I see that you created a separate page but shouldn't the basics about infrastructure and transportation still at least be summarized in the Augusta, Georgia article? It seems like just linking to more in depth coverage in a separate entry isn't enough. FloridaArmy (talk) 00:25, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
In my initial edit, I added a summary of the transportation in the city. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 01:34, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Something I've noticed with your work at Walter M. Digges is that you do not often give an edit summary. They're useful for other people and, you may be surprised, can be useful to you in retrospect also. Not providing summaries, if done regularly, can be construed as disruptive editing. Overall, you've only provided them about 40 per cent of the time. You probably should improve on that. - Sitush (talk) 06:11, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Blyew v. United States

I see that on 3 March someone asked you above to fix the copyright problems at Blyew v. United States. You didn't and have only returned to the article now - four days later - when I changed a statement about distance because it was not in the cited source. Your return seems to have been entirely for the purpose of reverting me, not fixing the potential legal problems to which you have exposed Misplaced Pages.

Since you are online, I'll give you thirty minutes to fix those problems, failing which I am going to delete the last paragraph of the article. - Sitush (talk) 13:58, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I've removed the "Background" section for the minute as there is too much text that is identical to https://nkaa.uky.edu/nkaa/items/show/2045. As you can see every time you open the edit window, you got a message "Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted". I don't like doing this, as it upsets people and makes them feel their work is not valued, but I have to do it to comply with Misplaced Pages's licence policies. It's better than deleting the article or blocking anyone, which hopefully be not necessary. Ritchie333 14:14, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Actually, should be blocked for WP:CIR and POINTiness at Walter M. Digges and elsewhere, not all of which relate to copyright.
