Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film

The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film is one of the annual awards given by the Costume Designers Guild.

In the first year of the awards, the single Excellence in Film award has been presented to honor outstanding achievements in costume design. All inaugural nominees, including the winner, Pleasantville, were period dramas or fantasy films, apart from The Truman Show, which was the only film set in modern times recognized. At the following ceremony, the award was split into two categories, Excellence in Contemporary Film and Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film. Since 2005, the latter category was further divided into Excellence in Period Film and Excellence in Fantasy Film, with each genre receiving its own award.
