Sanaag region between Somaliland and Puntland. Somaliland armed forces laid siege to the town of Hadaftimo, creating a state of emergency in the area. However, the troops later withdrew into the city of Erigavo. In response, the self-declared Maakhir state bolstered its military presence in Erigavo.

Background

The siege was part of ongoing disputes between Somaliland and Puntland over the Sanaag region. Hadaftimo, a strategic town in the contested area, has been a frequent flashpoint in the conflict.

Aftermath

Following the withdrawal of Somaliland forces, Maakhir, a short-lived autonomous state, reinforced its military presence in Erigavo to prevent further incursions.
