"cool heels"

it could be argued that, before the nWo and the Rock, the FOUR HORSEMEN were the most popular cool heels, dating back to the late 80s.

I know that Billy is married to Valerie but I haven't heard anything about them having children.Does anyone know if they have children since I haven't had a chance to read his book yet? Thanks. (MgTurtle 00:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC)).

Pythons

        • Correction -- wrestling commentators TODAY routinely refer to "huge arm muscles" as pythons. But in 1976-1977-1978 it indeed was unusual -- both the reference and the arms were unusual. At about 3 p.m. today someone changed infobox to reflect a date of death of today (January 28, 2009). No verification was given. Could not find any confirmation online. Malicious edit or foretelling of the future? Davemackey (talk) 00:35, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

World Heavyweight Champion?

The WWE/WWf/WWWF title was always a splinter from the NWA World Heavyweight title from the original Buddy Rogers/Lou Thesz controversy in 1963. It was always generally regarded as a legitimate version of the World Heavyweight title and was recognised as a world title by Pro Wrestling Illustrated and its sister publications except for a two year period 1983-1985 which the publishing company has since renounced as a mistake. The night Graham won the title, the defending champion he dethroned, Bruno Sammartino, was announced as "the World Wrestling Champion" by the MC. A title versus title match between Graham and NWA champion Harley Race in January 1978 was heavily promoted as a unification match between two rival World Heavyweight Championship claims, as were subsequent such matchups between Race and Bob Backlund in 1979 and Backlund and Ric Flair in 1982. 62.190.154.115 (talk) 13:35, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
      • let me add weight to this -- yes, WWWF/WWF, NWA and AWA all had "world heavyweight" titles. In each promotion -- the world heavyweight title is the top title. It is not true that NWA was somehow superior to AWA or WWWF in this regard...in other words, there is no such hierarchy. Thus, AWA and WWWF are not simply regional promotions. They are different wrestling universes in a territory-style multi-verse. Both THE Wrestler and Inside Wrestling magazine (and others) referred to all three promotions equally -- giving the three "heavyweight champion" titles equal weight. Thus, Superstar Billy Graham is indeed the 6th heavyweight champion of the WWWF universe (1. Rogers, 2. Sammartino 3. Koloff 4. Morales 5. Stasiak 2. Sammartino 6. SB Graham).         Look, the WWWF had rejoined the National Wrestling Alliance in 1971, at which point the NWA asked Vince McMahon to no longer refer to the WWWF title as a world title, since the NWA World title was the only one recognized by NWA members. So the title was downgraded between 1971 and 1983. It always had been a regional title since its inception in 1963 anyway, but it would no longer be officially referred to as a World title until the WWF left the NWA again in 1983. As for the wrestling magazines, they continued to refer to the WWWF title as a world title, mainly because they weren't privy to these behind-the-scenes dealings, and also because they were based in New York, and so the WWWF title was very important to them. 32.220.63.2 (talk) 03:19, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Billy Graham (wrestler) → Superstar Billy Graham – This is a preferred disambiguator to the suffix "(wrestler)" since it will allow more direct linking. While nicknames are not usually included in article titles, Graham's nickname is used so ubiquitously that it is the natural disambiguator (similar to Stone Cold Steve Austin). A search of the Google News Archive returns 128 results for "Superstar Billy Graham" and zero results for "Billy Graham (wrestler)". McPhail (talk) 21:32, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

    • That's simply not true. I looked through the first 10 pages of results for a search for "Superstar Billy Graham" (including the inverted commas) and every single one of the results referred to the wrestler, not the evangelist. McPhail (talk)
