Dr. Uday Narkar is an Indian communist politician, playwright and author. Currently he is the secretary of the Maharashtra unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Political career
He formerly served as the secretary of Kolhapur district committee of CPI(M).
In 23rd Maharashtra state conference of CPI(M), he was elected as the state secretary replacing former MLA Narsayya Adam.
Narkar was also elected to the Central Committee of the party in the last day of 23rd Party Congress held at Kannur i.e., 10 April, 2022.
He was one of the leaders of the 2023 Long March of the farmers from Akole to Loni.
He was actively engaged in intense seat-sharing negotiations with MVA partners for 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election.
He is also the Editor of the CPI(M) Maharashtra state weekly Jeevan Marg.
Notable works
Uday Narkar is a prolific translator, rendering numerous books from English to Marathi and vice versa. His diverse career spans 16 years as a faculty member at Yashwantrao Chavan College in Kolhapur, followed by a 4-year stint as a senior producer at ETV-Marathi. He is also a member of Janwadi Lekhak Sangh, an all India left-wing organization of Hindi-Urdu writers.
Views on socio-political issues
He is seen to raise his voice frequently for various issues like the release of Elgar Parishad political prisoners and the alleged manipulation of Bharatiya Janata Party for consolidating political power.
