Shen Yun has received standing ovations at the world’s top venues, and royalty members in Europe attended the show. Fox40 said the “sold-out shows throughout North America, and packed houses across Asia have made Shen Yun an international phenomenon”. Andrea views Shen Yun as a “massive success” and “one of the biggest shows on Earth.” Performing arts company director, Rebecca Laird, said “It feels very cleansing. There was a purity to it, a natural beauty.” Regional international Manager for Commerce Bank in Seattle, Bill Glassford said Shen Yun was “really fantastic”. David Allan, CEO for YM BioSciences, Inc., said the show was “enormously sophisticated”. Cameron Strong, who has performing arts background, said “We’re impressed by the skill of the dancers” and “It’s quite unique”. Gina Salamone, from New York Daily News, wrote “ticket holders will see a show that the Communist Party of China does not want you to.” Elise Knutsen wrote that the show features ancient Chinese dance and also exposes the modern Chinese political brutalities. Kelly Rutherford thinks “it is nice to see something that is almost innocent and beautiful and good dancing”. To people who mention political issues related to Shen Yun, New York governor, Averell Fisk said “Remember the Cultural Revolution”. His wife continued with “They brainwashed everyone essentially”.
Chinese government attempts to stop Shen Yun from performing by sending letters to the theatres. In US, an official at Huston theatre received pressure from Chinese government, but that official was “not intimidated”. Instead, Houston City Council decided to make July 2 and 3, 2010 as “Shen Yun Performance Days”. In San Francisco, Orange County official, Chris Norby, refused the request from the Chinese government by saying “I am personally insulted by your request and will certainly not honor it.” In Spain, Netherlands, and Germany, Chinese government’s request was refused due to the respect the artistic and religious liberty. Massimo Introvigne thinks anti-Shen Yun campaign by the Chinese Communist Party was “remarkably unsuccessful”.
